Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
^ brought up something < hadn't heard before. < thought Windows 1.0 was non-functional anyway though?

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
^ thought it wasn't? < was sure it was, along with 2.0/2.1.
Though < does find it really sad that choosing your own theme colors, in-depth, existed since Windows 2.0/2.1 and was taken away in Windows 8.0.

< is disappointed in Microsoft removing long-time features and just making things worse and worse. This is why < highly favors linux.

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
^ might be thinking of Windows 1.0.1. < is pretty sure < has heard on multiple occasions that Windows 1.0 was non-functional, but this minor revision worked. < doesn't know how that came about.
< didn't know that about Windows 8.

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
^ probably now knows that Windows 8 was the beginning of Microsoft's decline. Though < would still use windows 8.0 and 8.1 over Windows 10 any day, but that will only last so long.
< would honestly consider macOS over Windows 10 any day too. < Certainly chooses linux.

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
^ should know that < already knew that! Tbh though < does like mucking about with Windows 10 from time to time, now that it's got that Linux subsystem. (So < has a Linux subsystem, running on top of a Windows VM, running on a Linux host!
)

^ probably does crazy things beyond <'s wildest dreams regarding linux and the like.

< thinks it's something < needs to get a better understanding over, < imagine < might have to work with it in the future. Still, ^'s around for tips.

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
^ is mirroring what < thinks – < is dreading how much < will probably have to work with Windows 10 in the future. < once heard that the founder of the company <'s going to work for tried to make it Microsoft-free when he started out, but it evidently didn't last! Still, the silicon-design guys still get to use Ubuntu workstations!
Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
< didn't like windows 10 like ^ when it first came out. < didn't like that they were forcing people to upgrade. < just got used to windows 10 as they had no choice really so < doesn't mind it too much anymore. < only has a basic understanding of some Linux terminal commands from fixing a Walker (Vestel) TV before. They run Linux so < had to send commands through serial to the TV to fix the screen and colours. < is glad they learned a bit about Linux and would like to know more like ^ does.

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
< didn't mind windows 10 too much until < got really peeved by the before mentioned forceful upgrades and lack of help when it came to <'s computer crashing
Also ^ just made me not realise this was the person above you game

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
< still does get annoyed because older programs often have compatibility issues or just don't work properly on Windows 10. < even had to build an old PC a few times and install Windows XP just because < knew the program would work that way. <'s computer is too new to run Windows XP

Ooh, into building retro systems? < thinks ^ should have a chat with Hoody sometime, he loves his retro tech.Steo wrote:< still does get annoyed because older programs often have compatibility issues or just don't work properly on Windows 10. < even had to build an old PC a few times and install Windows XP just because < knew the program would work that way. <'s computer is too new to run Windows XP
Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
< does have a lot of PC parts in their shed so every so often < makes a retro one to perform something windows 10 can't. The problem is < always runs into a problem with getting video because the boards only have on board VGA. < does have a couple spare GPU's but they're power hungry and < doesn't have a good spare PSU

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
If ^ needs to run old Windows programs, ^ could try Wine on the Windows Linux subsystem. Though if ^ has only basic Linux knowledge it's probably not the best idea. In theory it should work though…
Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
< understands enough that < can install programs etc. using apt-get install. < just doesn't find it as easy to use as Windows since < has used Windows for many years. < obviously wouldn't know anywhere near as much about Linux as ^ though. < knows Linux can do a lot of things windows can't too such as updating a displays EDID.
< still never figured out why better Rayman 3 lags / drops frames sometimes on Windows 10 on <'s PC either, yet it runs smoothly on Windows 7. <' s PC is far more than powerful enough for a game from 2003

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
^'s R3 problem probably comes from a driver change in Windows 10, whatever it is. They'll probably never care enough to fix whatever they broke.
< was alluding there to how Wine on Linux on Windows could be better than Windows compatibility mode, despite all the extra hoops (such as installing an X Server) that would have to be jumped through. It's only half-serious!

Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
Ah < gets what ^ means. Windows running Linux on a virtual console then emulate Windows with wine. It's funny how that can still work better than Windows 10PluMGMK wrote:^'s R3 problem probably comes from a driver change in Windows 10, whatever it is. Re: The Person-Above-You Game!
Surely ^'d be better off just running Windows 7 in a VM in such a scenario?
