< wonders if gdebi is the best option to install .deb packages.

Re: The You Game!
< asks if that means you've got Debian running?
< says if you want a graphical interface then sure, but there's nothing wrong with a command-line "sudo dpkg-install <FILENAME>".
< wishes everyone a good "Lá 'le Pádraig". < recently found out that Saint Patrick is actually the patron saint of engineers as well as Ireland, which is kind of cool…

< also wishes everybody a happy St. Patrick's day that celebrates it. People say he never did chase the snakes out of Ireland that there never were any, but < says they just didn't come over because they were afraid of him and they knew better

Re: The You Game!
< didn't realize there were any snakes in this part of the world at any point until quite recently actually…
Further to last night's discussion, < was just pleasantly surprised by how well Tesco's website seems to work without JS.

< is not sure if < was hallucinating after drinking a cup of coffee.
After drinking it, < had seen little specks of " 'sparkling', black ash-like substances in the air " when < daydreamed.

Re: The You Game!
< gets that from standing up too fast sometimes < says that's nothing to worry about if it only happens temporarily

Re: The You Game!
< wonders if this is what ^^ describes. <'s had that happen to < now and then, but <'s never really been sure what causes it.
Re: The You Game!
< never knew that there was a website for that.
At least it's a normal thing to happen.
At least it's a normal thing to happen.
That reminds < of a certain attack called "Encroaching Darkness".you have a dark "curtain" or shadow moving across your vision
Re: The You Game!
< says it's caused by a blood rush to the head and usually standing up really fast causes a person to feel very faint as if they're about to collapse. Sometimes it can make a person see what looks like flickering light also and it usually subsides within a few seconds. < says the best thing to do if a person feels dizzy after standing is sit back down for a second until the person feels normal to avoid falling or hurting themselves.
< has had them visual black dots on more than one occasion and < thinks bad posture also seems to cause it such as leaning forward on the floor like < always does when < fixes consoles etc.
< says anything like that will usually subside within a few seconds and not to panic

Re: The You Game!
< would assume it's fluctuations in blood pressure to cone cells in the retina. < actually somewhat enjoys when it happens because it reminds < what complex imaging systems we have in our heads…
Re: The You Game!
^ explained it better because < couldn't really think but it's blood flow fluctuations and everyone gets them

You got it!PluMGMK wrote:< asks if that means you've got Debian running?< says if you want a graphical interface then sure, but there's nothing wrong with a command-line "sudo dpkg-install <FILENAME>".
< fixed his problem by launching his flash USB in UEFI mode by the way. The touchpad was still not working during the install but then worked fine after booting to Debian.
Re: The You Game!
< is glad ^ got that sorted and < wants to install something similar to one of <'s HDD's and dual boot.
< figured out what was wrong with <'s PS2. Unbelievably the bottom clasp had somehow opened itself meaning the ribbon that controls the laser was only sitting there meaning when it moved along the rail it was disconnecting itself. Explains why it froze on a perfect disc.

Re: The You Game!
< wonders which distro is ^ going to use?
Re: The You Game!
< isn't entirely sure. < had Ubuntu before but < had all sorts of problems including GPU drivers. < was actually thinking of setting up Debian before but < got a bit stuck and never got around to it. < might try again but < having a z170 chipset makes it harder because it's so new.

Re: The You Game!
Isn't Debian what Ubuntu is based on, but with less bells and whistles and more to the point? < wonders if ^ would see any improvement.
Re: The You Game!
< is thinking what ^ said and < actually remembers that < got the GPU driver issue sorted before but had a considerably slow boot despite having an SSD on Ubuntu.
< has a HP Envy 15j that < hasn't used in a long time so < wonders would it make more sense to install a Linux distro on that or dual boot on the PC < uses a lot?
Edit: < wonders is autocorrect just made to make < look stupid.

Re: The You Game!
< reckons Debian isn't going to be any help with drivers because of the Linux-libre kernel. < thinks ^ may have last used Linux in the pre-systemd days when slow boots were fairly par for the course.
Re: The You Game!
< would probably benefit from an older PC for this. < might even build another one anyway if < gets a cheap PSU. < has used libreelec before on android boxes with 1gb RAM but that's not the same thing.
< might try Ubuntu again because the last time < tried it only v14 would barely work. < sees that 17.10 is out now though.

Re: The You Game!
14.04/10? < thinks that used Upstart rather than systemd, which shouldn't have been terrible either. Still, things can only have improved in the last four years!
