Re: How do you sleep?

It's kind of weird how I view sleeping as a way of escaping anxiety, and because of it I end up sleeping way longer than needed on days off. I'm gonna have to get into the habit of having to wake up at 7:00 A.M. for college since I need to drive down for a class at 8:00. But I often fall asleep at like 2:00-3:00 A.M., meaning if the bad sleeping habit continues I'll only get a mere 4-5 hours of sleep which is very little for me. Tomorrow is my first day of the semester, so taking some type of sleep medication like melatonin might help. Though I find it very difficult to fix my schedule, I can't just lay on my bed and fall asleep, I've tried that and it doesn't work- I end up with my eyes closed, having so many things on my mind and not falling asleep at all. Instead I have to keep myself fully awake through out the whole night up until the early morning and keep myself awake the ENTIRE day until night and then go to sleep at a normal time to get myself adjusted to that time.

As for posture, I'm all over the place. Mainly on my back but I'll tend to jump from one side to the next. My room has no working AC so getting comfy is a challenge.

Bump.

There a number of ways I sleep, and it's always randomized. One night, I'll sleep on my side, and on another night I could sleep on my back. There have also been quite a few instances when I feel asleep while sitting. My bed is pretty uncomfortable these days for me so I often toss and turn, and sometimes I even get up at night just to change positions from lying to sitting just because it's unbearable. So I'm pretty randomized in short.

When I sleep is also very randomized. Some nights I sleep early, others I don't sleep and it's not good for me since I then end up falling asleep at random during the day and at completely unexpected moments (like when I'm watching videos). I never seem to be able to sleep any earlier than 11 however. I can get through a day though with at least 6 hours of sleep, though I always to try to get the recommended 8 each night.

I get into bed and either lay on my back or turn right and face the wall until I fall asleep, which is usually fast enough most nights as I keep staying up until 4am.

Sometimes I get like 4 hours sleep or less though and can't go back asleep and wind up feeling like total crap all day. Thankfully it's only sometimes and usually when I have stuff on my mind.

Edit: Also in the dark except for the light that comes in the window over the door coming from the bathroom. We leave that light on so if someone wakes in the middle of the night or generally just doesn't want to fall down the stairs, they can see what they're doing

Same here, I usually can’t sleep unless I’m really tired otherwise it’s not use in me trying. What I find is that there’s usually a point when I’m tired enough to fall asleep and if I miss the time it takes hours before I can get to sleep and then I end up like shit the next day.

There has been some nights, although infrequent, where I don't want to sleep, as if I have a fear of sleeping. It doesn't keep me up all night, as I eventually do fall asleep, but weirdly there has been those nights where I have a slight fear of falling asleep. Can't really explain it, because most nights I fall asleep pretty quickly and sleep very well.

Mm, so you sometimes have those? Very rarely do I have those moments, although it's becoming slightly more frequent, due to me getting older. I think I've changed from sleeping on my side/my back to my side/my face on the pillow. Dunno why.

Anyone ever get that weird thing where you're almost asleep, next of all your body just jumps and you literally go like a foot in the air?

I hate when that happens :P

Not to me personally, but I've had moments when I fell out of bed in the middle of the night and the next morning I wonder how I got there

And while i'm here, I wonder if sleepwalking can be talked about here? Well I don't sleepwalk but I used to sometimes look like that when I had to get up in the middle of the night.

That's happened almost everyone and I'm not exactly sure what causes it but you're almost asleep and your body just jumps

It's happened me lots of times, I talked about it with others a few times before and we all thought it's weird but kinda funny :P

Yeah, it happens. When I was young, I'd be starting to dream of something and then someone would sneak up behind me and jolt me awake. Now though it just happens, without the extra dream-intrigue. :P

Lol

I think the concept of someone sneaking up on me has caused me to always look behind my shoulder at night, even when no one's there. I'm much more paranoid at night.

Same. Even I look behind after I watch a creepy video of some sort and I try to calm myself down by watching entertaining videos.

I either do that or listen to calming music. This reminds me of a time when my algebra teacher actually tried pouring water on me. The result was I jerked awake at the last second and the glass of water ended up.....well.

Everyone that has met me in real life knows that doing that to me can lead to a quick and sometimes bloody death, as I sleep with a machette and a gun at my hand's reach at night (for obvious safety purposes), so people across the years became increasingly more respectful of my unstable sleep pattern, as I sleep awfully since my late teens because of an underlying hormonal issue, turns out that my testosterone levels are abnormally high, which leads me to be subject to sleep apne, and since I'm overreactive to what happens to me or around me, once I'm awaken it's awfully hard for me to get back to sleep, thanks to ASMR however, things have gotten a bit better about that.

And if you wonder, yes, I have already held someone at gunpoint upon brutally waking up. No one got injured tho.
