however, this game and the people that are attached to it have left a strong imprint on me. even assuming i would never play it again, it would most likely still remain my favourite game ever and i will always cherish the memories that are associated with rayman 3.
I agree, this game, since I first played almost 12-13 years ago, has left quite an imprint and mark on me that has always remained with me even when I moved onto other games. I always had a moment where I came back to this game for the fun of it. Even if I do take a break on this even after all the work I put into the next few days or even weeks, I'll always return to play this game at some point. :hap:
Mountain Goat wrote: as for my personal sight about the game: the pcm-glitch has surpassed a certain threshold which made the game feel severely less cozy for me. it frankly just doesn't feel right for me to see this kind of glitch happening, nor can i muster the sufficient fine-motor skills to handle it (thats what my previous attempts suggest).
even zooming in on matuvus while having the ipg triggered was a ridiculously horrid task for me and required ginormous practice.
however, i don't condemn anybody who makes use of this method in order to improve their score, as i fully acknowledge it requires both skill and creativity to make something out of it.
I've never tried that glitch myself, though I wouldn't mind trying it myself, though not on a scoring basis, more on a casual level when I am discovering glitches/secrets.

Yeah, it's not my goal to reach the top, I just want to do the best that I can and get a good score. :)

nice to see some fresh blood with steo and the jonster, keep the spirit up guys, you make rpc great again. i'll follow your progress and assist you if you are still devoid of some cages or similar stuff :D
Indeed! I'm glad you guys are still around for a nice chat with us about things like this too. :)
As far as cages go, I'm already set since I've been playing so long that I've almost completely memorized where all the cages are, it's like second nature to me now. I think there may still be people who don't know where all the cages are, so it's good to be giving advice about the cages. :)

Great giant leaps to get "gooder" scores

Nah I'm sure we'll get "better" scores eventually with practice. I'll see how CF goes for me next :P
We will, just need the effort

Same here, usually we are hanging out in the off-topic. I actually don't remember how the recent scoring movement started with us, but I'm glad I'm on board for it! :) I think the good influence is leaking to others to try improving scores. :)

I was trying a few months back but got impatient and sort of postponed it for a bit. Eventually my "I'm better than this" feeling kicked in and I decided to try get back into it.

Ray502 gave me a few tips at first and directed me to this thread. I was expecting scoring to be far easier than it actually is, then realised how much dedication people actually put into their scores.

I'm glad that some of the more experienced players are still here too, that's nice to see :)

I think I'm doing okay for someone that's still kind of new to the game, but I'm one of those people who isn't any good at a game unless I really like it, Rayman is a game I really like though :D

I also like how the more experienced players are trying to help out rather than just saying stuff like "my score is better than that, you'll never beat mine"

I'd also like to say thanks to everyone that's trying to help us further with tips, it's nice that the community are still around when we need them and I'm hoping I can improve and do the same for others when they need a hand :)

Same here, it's great to see you all and thanks for all the tips and advice you give to us newbies who need it. Well technically I'm not new to the game, hehe I'm more of a veteran like all of the other scorers. :oops2: I know someday I'll be giving this advice myself to other younger members too. I think I'm already starting to do that to ^ and Aaron, despite being newer than either of you two. Looking back through the posts, I think it was my recent posting on here to ask about scoring that sparked the activity on here again. :)

Well as far as the inspiration goes, there's multiple users to thank for that. The fact that the some members from way back with very high scores are still here helping others out is a huge factor too :)

I gave up for a while just thinking it's too hard to do, I'll never get the hang of it. The phrase practice makes perfect literally applies to this game. I'm most certainly a newbie to the game if you call 6 months new

Edit: About Clearleaf Forest, what's with getting to the upper level? I've seen MandM81 mention something about a piggy bank roll but I can't seem to get it to work. He doesn't seem to make the jump for me so it must only work on xbox. Either that or I'm doing it wrong.

On part 2 on CF, he can get to the upper level in order to get the HMF, lockjaw and vortex before even killing any of the lower level enemies.

Edit: He does it by jumping towards the corner of a door frame but that isn't working for me.

I've jumped on the corner of the door frame before but not from the lower floor. Curious..maybe I'll try it myself later :)

On a bad note, my memory card just fecked up and I lost all the data I had. Hate when that happens. Noooo....
Oh well back to square one! :D
At least this time I hope I don't do so badly! :)

I could play the xbox version instead and then I know he'd make the jump, but since I've gotten this far on PC I plan to continue from here. Maybe I can find another way to still get a decent combo on this part and then still end up with a good score. I'm sure there's a way.

The same think happened me on LOTLD with the balloon jumping but I couldn't make that on xbox either. Maybe the PAL version on xbox is different to NTSC for some reason though I doubt it should be.

I'm going to do this again. Considering I haven't played in weeks now or continued the save file I think this was a nice refresh for me. Time to go back to this with a new resolve. :D

Still doing it blid though.

When I played the PS2 version at first my score was only 180000 because I didn't know what I was doing and paid no attention to the scores

I'll get over 500000 tomorrow and that's the first thing I wanted to do. The next will be 600000 or maybe even 550000 for now. Baby steps ;)

Well I might as well give Rayman 3 a run again and finish the rest of my current save file. I'm running it blind right now, so these are my current scores. They're not the best, but they're not bad either.
FC: 30260
CF: 82381 (can improve this score)
BOM: 44877 (aaaahhh!!)
TLOTLD: 100505 (ok, i guess)
TDOTK: 72249 (feck you knaaren!!)
TLS: 34570 (definitely can be better)

Have a score of around 400-500K, though I'm still on TSBTC so can't give a complete score yet. I guess they're not bad for a raw playthrough without looking through any of the tips that Maz or the other top scorers have put on the wiki. And considering it's been quite a few years since playing. I wonder how much better my score will be after I take the tips into account and use them in my playthrough.. :?
Well after my memory card screwed up I went back to playing. My score for now.

I think my FC score was only like 26000

I'll check in the morning. I did play it back when I didn't know what I was doing though :P

EDIT: I'll post all of my bad scores tomorrow

Heya MountainGoat, glad to see you're still alive and kicking :D

I can see how it could be potentially discouraging to have missed a lot of the discoveries, but even when playing for fun and getting opportunities to just hang out in streams and such like you said, I would love that! It was people like you, DTUCC, Jona and MandM who got me into the game by showing off all these crazy things you can do, and it would be amazing to see my personal legends still participate in this game we all love so much

@ Steo: You are right; there's platform differences when it comes to walking speed and jump height and stuff. XBox has the biggest jump height while PC has the lowest, so it's impossible for you to do that jump onto the door frame in CF. Here's an old video by Potter which shows how to get to the upper level with a Piggybank roll. OR, if you feel extra ambiguous, you can try out the SJ which I used to play this level.

Re: Rayman 3 scores

Post by Steo »

@Maz: I have to try out some of these SJ's since I've never really got one to work for me. When I tried it on LOTLD part 2, I just ended up under the water and way under the map :P

There's probably some trick to it that I'm just missing.

I got the piggybank roll to work once last night after trying for about an hour but I think I was just doing it wrong. Even if you can jump higher on xbox, I'd rather just stick to the PC version now since I have it set up with BR3. I noticed that the GameCube has the lowest jump too since you can't even make the jump on FC.

My idea for now it to just at least try get 100000 on all the levels it's possible on and not even worry about the extra points for now until I improve some more. Still though that's going to take time for me ;)

Edit: Wow, thanks Maz! :)

The SJ is actually working wonders. I've gotten it to work 4 times in about 3 minutes :P

Ironically, I think me screwing up was a good thing. :)

This is still without using a lot of tricks and tips like the SJ (which I still need to practice using since I've never actually used it, thanks @Maz for the videos!)

SJ only works in certain areas too. I'm sure we'll get the hang of it. The CF SJ is actually working pretty well for me. I guess I could try the one in LOTLD again at some stage but for now I'm pretty happy with my LOTLD score :)

Yes, I'm sure we will. For me right now, though, I'm concentrating on a playthrough where I do the best I can do without using glitches. And then one where I utilize the most out of all the tips, tricks, and glitches you guys have shown me.

I ended up getting 86879 on CF. Needs improvement still but nevertheless, my score is now 503207.

It's still 100000 more than it was last week :)

Edit: Altogether I have (some of these are terrible, I know I've yet to work on some)

FC: 26,434 | CF: 86,879 | BOM: 41,233 | LOTLD: 105,585 | DOTK: 58,563 | LS: 30,961 | SBTC: 33,072 | HH: 59,494 | TOTL: 60,986

Total: 503207
