They don't need to operate when the sun goes down because:

1. They are powered by the sun so they can't (obviously)
2. You can just use a bicycle when the weather is cloudy or it's raining (don't worry, nothing will happen to you when you get wet if your immune system is healthy and functioning)

Neither because I haven't tried either of them.
