"o" is SMS-speak for "eau". :P I'm not sure if they actually used it for that name, but there are several texture filenames that use those kinds of abbreviations!

Re: Rayman 2

I'm just having this weird nostalgic feeling of back in February when I put Rayman 2 into my Dreamcast and seen how cool it was when Rayman actually came up on the VMU. I think it's so cool looking and I'm annoyed that I stuck a screw through the traces so I killed the board I began playing it on :oops2:

Well at least my dad found the Dreamcast so it was free, it just meant I had to buy another one :P
Later I fixed the other one by replacing the board and selling it to my friend. Still though, it's annoying since I could have just not broke it

As for the files in the PC version, I have yet to look into it much surprisingly despite what I do.

That Dreamcast smell that's emitted when it's running (I'm playing Rayman 2 on it again) reminds me of when I was still only new to RPC since that's the time I was playing it. I'd never really played a Dreamcast very much until after playing Origins I tried Rayman 3 then didn't know Revolution was Rayman 2 so I got it for Dreamcast. Just before I got properly into it I'd joined RPC then broke my Dreamcast

Probably a good thing I didn't know Revolution was Rayman 2, otherwise I wouldn't have realised how awesome the Dreamcast version is. I'd chosen Dreamcast because I hadn't played the console very much, having Rayman 2 gave me a reason to play it, that and it was the most powerful console Rayman 2 was available on :)

PS2 is more powerful than Dreamcast, but Revolution doesn't make it look that way at all.

Does anyone else think that the power fists in some versions of Rayman 2 are actually the golden fists from Rayman 1?
They do something differently but they are somewhat the same thing, right?

Judging by what they are appear to be....

Indeed, they do have the same purpose, which is to increase the power of Rayman's fists. I guess it wouldn't be too far-fetched to say that they are the same thing. The only difference between the two is that the power fist disappears after getting hit, while golden fist is only lost when Rayman loses a life.

Then there's the fact that he shoots with his fist instead of punching in Rayman 2.

Uncovered two more Rayman 2 mysteries!

For the first one, this cheat can be triggered on the Dreamcast version by shooting exactly 28 times while hugging the door in the Precipice 3, while the pirate is still alive. Be careful, or the pirate will hook you and you'll die. Once activated, this message will show for 5 seconds and you will receive three golden fists + a full lifebar.

For the second one, I don't know how to trigger this without cheating yet, but if you manage to reach the secret area in Tomb of the Ancients 1 on dreamcast without hitting any of the three switches, a sound will play (the same as when activating other secrets on dreamcast) and this message will show up. No other bonuses though.

Well the first one works on 3DS anyway, I just tried it on the real thing :P

EDIT: I found out my CFW 3DS can take screenshots so here's a better native image

Now the question is, can you find a way to get to the Tomb secret without hitting the switches?

I've been trying and no matter what I don't think he's making that first jump without some sort of hack. The second jump is easy and third is a little difficult but it seems possible.

The first jump though, I think is impossible to make unless there's a glitch.

That's amazing bunnieblaster! They both have me really curious....the first one seems to suggest to me anyway that maybe there was a release planned for the Atari Jaguar perhaps? Absolutely mystfied on that words on the second one though.

I doubt the Jaguar would have had the power to play the game, unless it was a very stripped down version. I wonder what the idea or it is though, it's so strange

I can't get to the other side in Tomb Of The Ancients without activating the first switch though, it seems impossible. You wonder was it just left in as a joke to one of the devs.

Hi guys, it was a while since I was asking myself a question...

Suppose that Sega did not take the "longest step of his leg" with the consequences that we all know by now, and kept the Sega Saturn for the same amount of time that lasted PlayStation and Nintendo 64 (until 2000 and 2001 respectively).
The development of the final version of Rayman 2 would probably have been entrusted (as in the case of PlayStation) to the Ubi Soft's Shanghai division. But this is just an hypothesis generated in analogy with the excellent work that in fact only the asian programmers were able to do in this excellent conversion adapted from 64-bit to the 32-bit PlayStation's hardware and where the difference for a game like that is not indifferent.

Now, everyone knows that the Sega Saturn was certainly a console of fine workmanship and able to match PlayStation hardware, but it's known that the games were difficult to program to get 100% of them and also that the machine was not able to offer a 3D like PlayStation, but a 2D just above that of PlayStation.
Moreover, the limits of the Sega Saturn can be deduced from some graphic effects absent in the versions dedicated to this one and from the full motion video much less fluid than the PlayStation version: see Wipeout for mention one.

At this point my question is simple, if at the end of the '90s the Sega Saturn remained among the direct competitors of the period (then PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64) as in fact had to be and the dreamcast had been produced later, maybe in the same period of playstation 2, gamecube and xbox inserting therefore in its context, that of 128bit, what would have been the final result of Rayman 2 converted on Sega Saturn? The game would have been the same or given the limits of the 3D of the Sega Saturn this version would have been worse than the PlayStation version?

In short, the final result in terms of resolution, video/audio quality, fluidity, frames and content (ie levels, graphic effects, etc.) it would have been equal, worse or better than that of PlayStation?

We always talk about the final version of the game, the 3D one clearly. Not the 2D prototype. I'm waiting for your answers.

............................ :boon:
Now i'm absolutely certain.
Ok I'm going to requote this to answer your question.
Steo wrote:Well Rayman 2 was released the exact same time as the Dreamcast (except for Japan where it came out a year before that), so my assumption would be just that they had been optimising the Dreamcast version while expecting the Saturn version to not sell very well if it was to be released. The PS2 didn't come out until a year after the Dreamcast in America & Europe and it was around a year and a half in Japan from the Dreamcast release date. The GameCube came out way later, almost 2 years later than PS2.

So basically they would have thought hmm, the new SEGA is coming out, we'll port it to that because it'll be more powerful. Then the fact that the PS2 came out in NA & EU a year later explains Rayman 2's release on PS1, while the GameCube being far later (2002) simply explains the N64 version.

I can only guess that because the Dreamcast came out so early in Japan that they were planning to do that all along and skip Saturn.

If it had been on Saturn, I assume it would have ran a little better than the PS1 version. Either way they'd both be 240p and probably still capped to 30fps (25fps in EU).

I still would have liked to see the game on Saturn myself though to be honest, the Saturn is a pretty good console :)

Now, answer MY question....why do you keep making several accounts for the purpose of asking the exact same question?
