RPC APP?
Just wondering, after appreciating how well the sites have been made and how good they look (esp. Raytunes)
Clearly there's very talented people behind RPC!
has there ever been any speculation on creating an app?
Even if it's funded like kickstarter or something.
Would be awsome

Re: RPC APP?
The site has had proper mobile integration ever since it was upgraded last year. What kind of features were you hoping for, easier navigation?
Re: RPC APP?
Yeah it was the amazing mobile integration that made me think an app had perhaps been considered at one point, there's nothing I can suggest to make the interface better, as I said there clearly is real talent behind the sites and I wasn't asking as if it wasn't good enough I was just curious due to how well the sites are made and of course the traffic every day.
to answer your question i'd have to really nit-pick, I would say i'd like a platform where I can get push notifications, an app is easier to socialise on imo.

Re: RPC APP?
I suppose there is the issue of forum navigation not translating perfectly to mobile, for example the menu options and links are pretty small and much better suited to a mouse than a touch screen.
Also, I'm not sure if it's just me, but whenever I tap a text field to post a message the screen zooms in slightly (not a huge issue but it gets a little bit annoying).
The mobile site is definitely an improvement but it's not as polished as the desktop experience, if anything it seems more like a compromise than being fully mobile optimised.

Re: RPC APP?
Humch will have to correct me on this, as I'm no web dev, but I'm fairly sure the mobile theme is not really a theme in itself, but Responsive Design. You'll notice that the forum dynamically resizes to the mobile theme if you zoom in your web browser far enough. AFAIK, this is something that was integrated into phpBB 3.1, and we simply styled it with our "orsum" theme for the most part.
(I miss that message we had for the theme beneath the phpBB disclaimer).
I admit, it'd be neat if we could get the conveniences that apps give, like push notifications, though I don't think it'd be worth the effort. Honestly, I don't know if we have any active members here who have significant experience in programming apps. (Though please do prove me wrong if that's not the case)

Re: RPC APP?
Maybe an app isn't totally necessary, but an actual mobile version of the site could be worth considering

Re: RPC APP?
I like the idea of an app, but I like the way the mobile integration of the site is now. Still sounds like a cool idea though.

Re: RPC APP?
I have a little yoke in Perl that puts up RPC notifications on my phone.

Re: RPC APP?
I hope when I become better skilled in programming I can put a code in my sig that lets me rotate quotes and songs.
Edit: Well I have to start by relearning everything first.

Re: RPC APP?
Rotating quotes is easy if you have your own server that supports CGI scripts. Rotating songs would have to be implemented here on the RPC end though.
Re: RPC APP?
Which isn't a priority at all considering having a song in your sig activates the DDoS protection constantly as is with just one song, never mind the amount of requests it would send to the server if it was randomly generating one.
I know where RayTunes is anyway if I want to hear the songs
