That's not an opinion but a statement.

Bleh, I dislike tatoos. I find this disturbing and most of the time it isn't this good for the skin I believe.

Tattoos are silly. Normal skin is where it’s at.

Why do people never think about that day when they our 85 years old and still have a tatoo from their favourite movie or video game from when they were young?

Are you trying to tell us something?

EDIT!

I was confused, my 3DS showed a blank post because it can't play videos. Never mind. :mryellow:

Hey, how about we bump this topic? (There was another one "what would you get as a tattoo", fairly old as well, this one feels more general on the issue)

Lots of cut and dry rejection of tattoos as a concept, and that's not counting the gratuitous judgement on other people's body in the other thread (in messages that were clearly written on Record Day so let's disregard them)

I personnally love tattoos as a concept. I have five of them, including an ugly one (I made the drawing, it's therefore personnal ). Sure it stings a bit when done on the arm and it stings like hell on a drumstick when done on the knee (a mistake I won't make a second time) but I love the idea of expressing one's self, giving color to an otherwise blank a monotone skin like mine.

Not all tattoos are great, of course. Like I said, I myself bear at least one ugly one, but I thing people are more interesting to look at when they are inked. Besides, some of the artists are follow are unbelievable at their craft.

Hunch, didi you jump the gun and get that Number 23 piece?

I ended up merging both threads, since they were equally bad anyway. :P

I'm not a huge tattoo fan. I don't judge the concept itself, but I just find the overwhelming majority of them ugly. As for the ones that actually look okay, I swear almost everyone out there has the exact same one.

That's the thing about tattoos. They used to be socially transgressive, but they’ve become so widespread and accepted that every other nerd is inked today. It's not a bad thing that the stigma is gone, but it does mean tattoos are just another fashion accessory, much like clothes and haircuts. And just like those, they're subject to terrible trends. While it's easy to ditch a mullet or your old Tecktonik attire, a tramp stamp from 2005 is going to be a lot harder to get rid of. We all commit crimes against good taste every now and then, but I'd rather mine not be permanent.

Ultimately, given how prevalent they are nowadays, it almost feels more unique not to have any tattoos. I think I'll keep it that way. :hap:

As you can probably guess from the rest of my post, the answer is no, but I still think it looks kinda cool! 8)

Not that I disagree with you (I'm a nerd and I'm inked, after all) but I was curious so I checked the number : apparently in western countries tattooed adults represent 18 to 33% of the population, which felt low to me.

There must be significant gaps between generations, of course, with ours being the most inked, but it also could mean that maybe there's a bias in recognition where you identify someone as being tattooed instead of being "normal". Like a person without one would have less distinguishing features, therefore would be more forgettable.

Well, for example, 53% of adults in France are over 50. If, for the sake of simplicity, you consider the percentage of tattooed people among those to be negligible, those figures rise to 38-70% for people under 50. And given that tattoos appears to be significantly more common in people under 30 than for the 30-50 age range, one can deduct even higher figures for this younger demographic. Because of that, these numbers you found kinda make sense to me.

I've actually always wanted to get a small tatoo someday, I've always found them to look really nice. Definitely something small, probably on my shoulder, but having something symbolic and meaningful on me is something I always found to be a cool idea!
