Well, I have checked Ubisoft Digital Press Kit Herbst/Winter 1999.

I have uploaded images with a better resolution from it on the wiki (and actually I messed there lol) but I have questions for two of them.

*image of the buccaneer*

Is it a developer test? I don't remember that prison ship has been on an open sea.

*fairy glade image*

Is it normal super lum or beta thing?
I think the first one is just the Buccaneer cutscene where it says "Slaves now on board...." and the other I think is beta. Though the first image you put does look a bit modified...

Pretty sure that The Prison Ship is on an open sea during the final battle.

Beta Lum, other screenshots show them with eyes also.

Yup, you are right. I think this doesn't need to be mentioned on the wiki but I checked the gameplay of several versions and there is no sun at skybox.

About the game, Rayman Premiers Clics, (which is an educational game based off of Rayman 2 that I never knew existed.) There is more video footage on other sites than Youtube on this game. I don't even think Haruka did a video on this game. Can anyone try to do a lets play on it, and for the videos that I watched they weren't in English but there is an English option on the Language select and from what I could tell the Rayman 2 voice actor from the PS1 and PS2 was involved with it or maybe not and the Language select just got me assuming that. Either way this game needs more content on Youtube. At the time of this post I could only find 1 video on Youtube of this game.

I came up with an idea of documenting my posts to save myself multi posting since nobody else seems to be posting about this amazing game in this thread lately (I don't like double posting) :P

2nd of November:
I find it amazing that all of these Easter eggs are present in the Dreamcast version of the game which happens to be my favourite version of Rayman 2. I still have to revisit the game again soon but I can't play them all at the same time :P

11th of November:
So finally 9 days from the post where I said it, I've decided to start a new game on Dreamcast since it actually looks well on my TV :D
I'm excited about playing the game again :P
The game is actually giving me nostalgic feelings of when I first joined RPC in February

15th of November:
So I've been playing the game for the last few hours on Dreamcast and I still find it just as amazing as I did the first time. I got my Dreamcast to work properly and then just really got sucked into it. I just got by Tomb Of The Ancients and when I started playing I was only on The Sanctuary Of Water And Ice.

16th of November:
Well I just completed The Crows Nest. It's seriously such an amazing game, especially for its story :hap:

Alright I give up and I don't want to delete and repost yet again just to ask a question. It's been a while since I got 100% completion on this game and I'm just wondering from others experience in playing the game, is there an easily missable Lum on The Menhir Hills?

I have 49 Lums and I have played the level 3 times and didn't see it anywhere

Edit: Oops, never mind! I found it behind the tree in phase 2

They really liked hiding those things :P

Yep! But when you play it several times, you get a feeling for where they probably put them!

I think one of the best ones was that one on Beneath The Sanctuary Of Rock And Lava, where they have the Super Yellow Lum hidden behind the pillar :P

Anyway I just got 100% again on Dreamcast :D

I want to try the Dreamcast version, but I fell as if I might run into the same issues i had with the N64 version.
While the Dreamcast version has the correct music, the N64 had not.
Besides the english voiced intro, they don't have the English voices on the Dreamcast version.
I like the jiberish voices, but if the PS1 had the voices why doesn't the Dreamcast atleast have them as an option like on the PS2 version?

The Dreamcast version is not bad at all, it's just I grew up with Rayman on the PlayStation with the voices, which they don't have on the Dreamcast version. The reason I never really went beyond the PlayStation releases of Rayman 2 was because the other versions just messed up the audio for me.

I do see the problems with Rayman Revolution. I fell through the ground a lot of times on it myself. it might also dip in frames on the PS2 at times due to the PS2's lesser hardware compared to other consoles at it's time and It isn't really that fun going back to levels you beat when the music is changed to some ambient track, it can be fun but not for most people.

Here is what Revolution did good with. It included all the voices in different languages including jiberish, it enhances the Rayman 2 story which is is the biggest reason it'd recommend the game. It added new, exclusive mini games and used some older mini games from other versions of Rayman 2.
Lastly, the story has never been this detailed on any other version of Rayman 2 before it.

If Rayman Revolution made it onto the Gamecube and/or original Xbox, the framerate would be much better. The reason the Dreamcast version runs at better framerates is because it is a simpler version of Rayman 2. Revolution is a much larger game (not big compared to todays' games.) with larger areas to explore and more powerups to unlock.

It's a combination of that and the fact that it uses Renderware which as Plum also said before runs terrible on PS2. (actually it was Pixelise that said it runs like shish)

My theory for Dreamcast not using the voices is because they only had 1GB GD-ROM discs and with all the textures and stuff on there, they had to save space. This seems likely if you consider the fact that it uses 22KHz sound.

Also, look how well Rayman 3 runs on PS2 in comparison to Revolution and that's not exactly that small either.

Edit: The minigames are on Dreamcast too as is Globox Village which is exclusive to Dreamcast.

Renderware runs great on PS2, I played Scooby Doo 100 Nights of Frights on PS2 and it ran well on the real hardware. That game used Renderware.
That game did it right on PS2. I think it just has to do with the game just being intensive for the PS2 console.

Wouldn't the voices use about as much space as the gibberish voices? I don't think they would use that much more storage from the cd.

The difference is that PS1 has the lowest quality textures and runs at 240p, Dreamcast has higher textures than PC and runs at 480p, meaning that they had fare less space to work with. The sounds being 22KHz is an example of that where they hadn't got much space and using lower quality audio saved them space.

Shadow The Hedgehog is another Renderware game that runs like crap on PS2 so I guess it depends on the version of the engine they used. Sonic Heroes is only 30fps on PS2 vs 60fps on everything else which is again Renderware. Rayman M was also Renderware iirc and again that has framedrops from 60fps to 30fps a lot too.

I'm not saying Revolution is a bad game but the use of Renderware and the PS2 just didn't do it justice, aside from all the glitches of course. If it had been on Xbox or GameCube then yeah it definitely would have ran much better, though I think the earlier versions of Renderware were just very poorly optimised.

Even with all that though, I just prefer the Dreamcast version personally. I like how it stays more true to the original like Hunch says and I personally prefer the linear design instead of all that running around to find the next level etc.

I mean, it was a good idea and I like it, but I just much prefer the Dreamcast version :)

EDIT: Wow! When I had been only here 3 weeks, it seems I practically said the exact same thing!
Steo wrote: Sat Mar 17, 2018 3:27 pm Yeah it's really cool how they could do that back then when the consoles weren't as powerful and they didn't have as much space on the disc to store the game data. CD-R were only 700mb and the special GD-Rom the Dreamcast used was 1gb. The dreamcast version only has Raymanian voices but that's likely due to the amount of space them much better textures would take up especially compared to the PS1 version. It's also running in 480i on PS2 and Dreamcast vs the PS1 240p also but I wouldn't take anything away from the PS1 game it's still brilliant :)

The PS2 has 4.7gb DVD and supports Dual Layer so they had all the space in the world for their resources however still limited by GPU/CPU power which likely explains Revolutions framerate but the graphics are unbelievable for a PS2 game.

These days this game is a breeze for me, but in my earliest days when I played this game I merely concentrated on finishing the level and didn’t spend so much time looking around.

Some of the most notorious things I continuously missed as a kid were the entire areas you had to reach with the plum in TSOSAF (including the last cage), the Super Yellow Lum mentioned above, the cage and Super Yellow Lum right behind me when entering TSOWAI, that single lum behind the menhir in The Menhir Hills’ beginning, and all the lums that were on the structure after leaving on the walking shell and under the menhirs on the island in The Iron Mountains.

Yup, had a lot of missed things that I can name off the top of my head, but that last one was the one that took me the longest to find.

This game is one of the easiest Rayman games, but one of the best ones too. There's no way I would have ever found this game difficult regardless of my age, especially when you compare the difficulty level to Rayman 1. The only thing I found difficult was finding some well hidden Lums and cages on my first playthrough, but as for enemy AI and general level difficulty, I'd say it's the second easiest game next to Rayman 3.

It's a game that's so fun that I'd play it time and time again.

I must've found some sections quite hard because I remember playing the Jano chase with my brother so that he could shoot while I'd move around.

I also found the part with the yellow lava and the plum in the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire so hard that I believe I paid my brother to replay the level for me.

Actually, now that you mention it, I didn't know you could shoot the shards the first time I played, so I kept trying until I got by them all.
