Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
I voted 98 for nostalgia. It's the OS on which I first learned to program, after all! Also I really liked how Explorer let you use a custom (ActiveX-enabled) web page to display a particular folder's contents (via desktop.ini and folder.htt). Security nightmare, I'm sure, but it was fun!
Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
98 is nostalgic to me because it was my first computer though to be honest, most of my time that was spent on that computer consisted of playing Solitaire or drawing on MSpaint

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
I have a borderline religious (and probably quite irrational) attachment to Windows 7. I guess I just really didn't like the updates because they felt so unintuitive.
I've since gotten a laptop with Windows 10 and I realise it's not as bad as I'd thought, though I did install a custom start menu which mimic's 7's.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
I've tried Classic Shell on Windows 8.1 before too since my PC can still boot that in UEFI mode with CSM disabled. It actually does make it look pretty nice

How can you be religiously attached to an operating system?Ambidextroid wrote: Wed Nov 21, 2018 9:49 pm I have a borderline religious (and probably quite irrational) attachment to Windows 7. I guess I just really didn't like the updates because they felt so unintuitive.

I'm pretty sure Ambi is just using a metaphor to describe that he cares very much about Windows 7, so much that he's comparing it to a religion

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
Basically yeah, even if you explained definitively why windows 10 is superior in every way I'd still think 7's better because it's what I'm used to.
Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
If Windows 10 is a religion, then I'm an atheist
Windows 7 is so much better to me in so many ways. Regardless of all that telemetry stuff in Windows 10, what annoys me even more is the forced upgrade. If I use Windows 7 or 8, I get this stupid unsupported hardware message that keeps popping up every few minutes and have to use wufuc to disable it. If you have a newer CPU such as a Skylake or Kaby Lake, that is what makes you get that forced message and to make matters worse, they actually disable your Windows updates from working
Nice stunt Microsoft.

Stupid Microsoft. Wish they’d stop forcing us to that piece of junk called Windows 10.
Windows 7 was the last good Windows release.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
I find the Windows 10 desktop computers with the Touch screen feature to be an annoying and needless asset.
The one that I have now as a family computer is going crazy as it is opening task bars and other things BY ITSELF every once in a while. I deliberately told my little sister not to mess with the screen too much because then the computer goes crazy like that Since the Touch screen is mightily sensitive and act as if it is given a command When no one wanted it.
I want to ask something. Is there an option to disable the "Touch screen" setting? Because I don't find it useful.
I am only going with Windows 7 because it is not very annoying like Windows 10, with the random automatic Shutdown to start updates and all.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
How I actually got to use Windows 7 is because I somehow screwed up Windows XP so much that we had to install Windows 7 or Windows 10 instead and I'm very glad I chose to go with 7 because 10 is utter garbage. It's the worst operating system I had to use because my school's computers had Windows 7 back in 7th grade which I really liked but now every single one of them has been replaced with 10.R4Y_ANC3L wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 12:23 pm I find the Windows 10 desktop computers with the Touch screen feature to be an annoying and needless asset.

Also, back on topic, sometimes when we tell children not to do certain things, they do the exact opposite because they are curious as to what that thing will result in.
Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
If you right click on the start button and click "device manager" then expand "human interface devices", you might see HID compliant touch screen. Right click that and choose disable and there you go.R4Y_ANC3L wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 12:23 pm I want to ask something. Is there an option to disable the "Touch screen" setting? To be honest, I never understood the point of a touchscreen laptop and I never actually owned one myself. I mean it's not a tablet, it's a laptop.
If I take your word for it and Jonster's too (assuming he was telling the truth and wasn't spamming submit impatiently to get more posts), they don't work properly and are overly sensitive to the stage where they just cause "unwanted effects".
You'll recall him having a lot of double and even triple posts in some cases where he claimed it was his touchscreen.

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
Only 98 and 7 got any votes. This is a very interesting result, I must say!
Here's the first thing that popped into my head. Kinda memish, but let's just go with it…
Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
I don't have any theoretical reasons for it, but I'm voting yes, given that the first 2 instalments were (and are) pretty amazing. I feel like it's a pretty similar case to "Rayman 4", but I think both HL3 and Rayman 4 will exist one day... eventually!

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
Three votes? Seriously? You couldn't make it up…
So here's something else I alluded to in the Linux thread (not the crazy conspiracy theory, just the real-life event that a gives a modicum of credence to it).
I decided to leave the options as one-worders to avoid putting words in members' mouths, but here's the thinking I personally had behind each one:
Good, because Microsoft are contributing to a big open-source project used by almost everyone
Bad, because it means even less competition (the browser market is basically Chromium and Firefox, since so many projects have already rebased themselves on the former, including Opera)
Scary, because of "Embrace, Extend and Extinguish"

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
Wait, how’d you restyle the forum? I can’t believe I just noticed now…

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
I use a GreaseMonkey script and a self-hosted phpBB-3.2-compatible version of the Barbara theme. I already sent it to Ambi, so PM me if you're interested.
Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
I actually do rather like the green theme myself. It's something different and green is my favourite colour as I've stated before on numerous occasions.
Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
Hehe, I now have the Barbara theme too
thanks MGMK

Re: The Awesome and Cool Poll Thread
What are you guys talking about? I don't see any Barbara theme in here at the moment...
