Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I think I'll try OBS since it's open source and works on Linux.

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
Yeah, that should surely work for me too, if I use Xorg.
Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
It would likely be at least tomorrow, I'll want sleep after today.

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I should really do it before I go back to work on Monday anyway.
Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I'll definitely enter one just for the fun of it. Even if I do terrible, it's worth a try.

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I wonder if the evil of that level is just psychological. As in, it has four separate rooms, so subconsciously one doesn't expect to be turfed back to the very beginning upon failure.
Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
There's many things that can go wrong and slow you down too, finding the quickest route will be the challenge. I recall only barely being able to complete it in time.

I'll probably just record a couple times, and then submit. It's a hard stage!
Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I suppose I'll try get mine sorted this week, I was too tired on the weekend to even consider playing this level. The Jonster wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2019 5:39 pmSame!PluMGMK wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2019 11:47 am Of course, I also need to figure out the best way to record.![]()

My time is 35:96. I messed up a bit in the last room, but otherwise it went pretty well.

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I tried to setup OBS over the weekend, but x264 doesn't like what it's giving it.
Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I have mine setup, but I'll have to use x264 also. NVENC was an option for Nvidia on Windows 10, but since I'm using mesa on AMD now, I have to use x264 software rendering. I'm sure the 3700X can handle it though.
UPDATE:
Firstly, I accidentally deleted my previous post which was above plums like an eejit.
(All it said was how I didn't realise there was only 3 days left for the contest anyway)
Secondly, here's my entry of 34:26. I originally got a different slightly higher time after retrying for about an hour, but OBS never recorded it.
It took me about half an hour to manage this run then, which actually turned out better anyway:
Which leads us to this for the time being (I know it's September, but it started on August 12th):

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I spent an hour on this (including restarts), but my final time for this video is 35:31. I wanted to try using OBS for this, but I got a noticeable FPS drop when I used it so I had to switch to Bandicam. I still got a slight variance on FPS using Bandicam though...
At least I tried. And on a side note, this is the first video I've uploaded to YT in over a year now

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
Yeah that's a pretty good run too, nice work!
Since it's been a month, this challenge comes to an end, and the final results are:
I also never realised the image in the OP, which is from about 18 months back.
I guess it's irrelevant now anyway.
___
I also looked back through this thread and noticed that Ray502 was allowing people to play certain versions of games that had advantages or disadvantages. Rayman Origins at 50Hz is one of those examples, as it's going roughly 17% slower, along with the time still counting slower too.
Basically, this means that the game is easier, since it's basically the advantage of slightly slowing the game down, with the time also slowing down to match the game speed. If you were to count in real seconds from start to finish, one of those PAL slowdown 50Hz runs would actually have a much higher time. That also means that when counting in real seconds, the 50Hz games that are slowed down have a major disadvantage.
Here are some examples of which ones have 50Hz slowdown
Rayman 1: PAL versions run slower.
Rayman 2: PAL versions run slower.
Rayman 3: PAL versions are optimised so they run at the same speed as NTSC
Rayman Origins: PAL versions run slower if they're played on a Wii set to 50Hz. Same on a PAL PS3 or Xbox 360 using a composite, s-video, component, or RGB cable. (Holy crap the Lum King theme is slow at 50Hz version)
Rayman Legends: All versions run at full speed. If a PAL PS3 or Xbox 360 uses one of those cables mentioned from Origins, the framerate will just be choppy.
Since it's been a month, this challenge comes to an end, and the final results are:

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
While it's true that different versions run at different speeds (also including R3 on PC), the in-game timers work the same (so say the game is slightly slower, then the timer is slower to compensate). So as long as we rely on them it really shouldn't matter.

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
Is there an audio clip of the slowed-down lum king theme?
Funny how in television it's usually the opposite that happens. Stuff's filmed at 24fps then on PAL they just speed it up to play back at 25fps, while on NTSC it's played at the right speed but doing something akin to repeating every fourth frame to reach 30fps. So PAL prints of shows sound about a semitone higher.

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
CHRdutch's video in this thread has the slowed down theme.
And yeah, the timers compensate for the speed, but the game is still going to be a bit easier since its going almost 17% slower.
As for the PAL speedup to 25fps, that always annoyed me when I was younger, wondering why newer episodes of shows started to sound so high pitched. I didn't discover why until about 3 years ago when I decided to look up why it sounds so weird. The worst thing is that music channels even do it with some songs, it basically ruins them.

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
Congratulations to all my fellow competitors!
I'm just happy I was able to get a decent video with a good time, I had to rerecord several times (and each one either had ok times or screwups

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
Don't worry, I messed up about 100 times and then when I finally got a good time, OBS never recorded and I had to do it again.
UPDATE: I plan to start the next challenge nearer to the 1st of October to try keep it on track. If anyone has any suggestions for challenges in the mean time, please don't hesitate to share them.

Re: Challenge of the Month #8 - Infiltration Station Invaded
I've missed the mark by a mile on this one, but I'll update it soon and the challenge will last until the end of November instead. I'm thinking of doing a section in a Rayman 3 level again where you have to get the highest score in an area. The only thing about that is I'd have to choose an area where the Lums glitch won't affect it since it would be unfair to PC players.
