Yeah, with a decent driver, their cards are the best – that's the crazy thing.

AMD really caught up on NVidia about gaming stuff. But still, about computational stuff, NVidia has clearly a huge advantage. Indeed, AMD has not succeeded in creating its own proprietary tech stack of GPU-accelerated processing just like CUDA, so they struggle with OpenCL and open-source implementations.

And while we're talking about that, I'm on a dual boot Debian Sid / AwesomeWM and Windows 10.

I like Debian, the main reason I switched to Arch is because things are more up to date with it being a rolling release, especially since I use Mesa drivers. Nvidia definitely is ahead when it comes to GPU power, but AMD has always worked better for Linux, though that's beginning to change with the development of Proton.

Since Proton has come a long way, people no longer need to use Nouveau drivers, they can use the closed source Nvidia ones instead. Rayman Origins was always broken with Nvidia on Linux, and it still works slightly better on AMD with D9VK, but most of the graphical issues have been fixed without D9VK at this stage.
