Perl - dead?

Is the programming language Perl dead? It is only offered as a course in one university in my country.

What do you use it for mainly? It is not used in any (popular) game engine and many people use python for coding programs.

For example, I got sick of manually updating packages on Linux from Scratch (it was fun for the first few years :fou:) so I wrote a set of Perl scripts to keep it going.
