Re: Rayman 2
On the GoG version you have to open the nglide settings where Rayman 2 is installed then set the refresh rate to 120Hz to stop it from running too fast.

Re: Rayman 2
The Rayman 2 prototype is now supported in Ray1Map

Sadly there isn't a whole lot unused in there. Only major thing we found was an unused animation where Rayman would be able to jump onto certain hooks:

Also unlike Rayman 1, where the data structure is a complete mess, this is way more organized (and also more efficient). The biggest example of this is how animations work. In Rayman 1 an animation can only use the sprites available in one sprite group (a DES). Because of this some animations ended up duplicating certain sprites. Take the photographer. The animation where Rayman's head shows up for the picture is actually a duplicate from Rayman's DES.
In the R2 prototype there are no sprite groups. Instead there's a global list of sprites which any animation can use. That way the teleporter can use Rayman's sprite for the teleporter animation etc. without having to duplicate them.
Fun fact: the linking system from R1 returns here. As you can the teleporters are linked. Enemies which jump from one layer to the other are also linked, and also duplicated because of this.

Man, I'm just a lowly observer, but it's really awesome seeing what you guys have accomplished, I never thought I'd see the stuff you guys have done, the ability to view maps from the games in-browser, and I saw you guys had done work on texture imports.
And now the 2D Proto? You guys are awesome.

Does the "Kaleidoscope textures" cheat in the Dreamcast version actually exist? I don't have a Dreamcast so I tried the code in the 3DS version which is a port of the Dreamcast version and nothing happened, I can't find any videos of the cheat online either.

Re: Rayman 2
i just beat the game and guys i have a potentially stupid question. why do i never hear anything on how hard the iron mountains and final boss are. am i really just that awful at the game (and it in particular, i didnt have much trouble with r3 even on my first playthrough!!) or is it the pc version or are they really just that stupid designed or what??
both of these made me end up crying from being so frustrated and a few other levels in the later point of the game also feel way too hard. but i only ever hear the game is easy??? how??? throughout near the whole game ive had my health bar embarassingly low a fair bit and also at one point the game randomly decides to start being stupid hard (and mostly not fun also)
i feel like nothing else i found hard in any other rayman game ive played was as hard as Grolgoth Second Phase and. sorry for dissing on the game but im just upset

Interesting! I think it would be good to upload this box art to RayWiki, as well as to create a section in Rayman 2's early production article about this scrapped plot.Croboculous wrote: Wed Apr 08, 2020 5:58 pm I spoke with my dad and he said he bought it in the “New Releases” section. “Rayman strikes back!
Pirates have invaded Rayman’s world to seize its unique creatures and sell them to an inter-galactic circus. Our mighty hero, Rayman, has been captured and stripped of his powers. Rayman escapes and embarks on a dangerous mission to return to his conquered world where he must rescue all his imprisoned friends...”
There’s a couple more interesting things about this case. First of all, you can see that press screenshot of Rayman and Jano. Secondly, in the Iron Mountains where you’d usually see Uglette, it’s Globox instead. In that same picture, Rayman’s health bar seems to be at its minimum length, which by that point should have grown a little bit.
Nice find! Let's try to see if we can confirm his identity. In any case, it's probably worth creating a wiki article about this character.12RayChienne9 wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 4:57 pm While I was creating the Spanish version of the list of quotes in Rayman 2, in the Dreamcast localisation I discovered a scrapped character called Zikox. As his name suggest, he's (possibly) a baby Globox and he is a music fan.
Well, I guess the game itself is made of unused content, so I'm not too surprised here.RayCarrot wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 12:20 pm Sadly there isn't a whole lot unused in there. Only major thing we found was an unused animation where Rayman would be able to jump onto certain hooks:

Which bit of the Iron Mountains? The bit where you're piloting the warship?ZelenPixel wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 6:38 pm i just beat the game and guys i have a potentially stupid question. why do i never hear anything on how hard the iron mountains and final boss are. am i really just that awful at the game (and it in particular, i didnt have much trouble with r3 even on my first playthrough!!) or is it the pc version or are they really just that stupid designed or what??

I think the boss fight can feel very punishing, since when you lose a health point you get instakilled and then the Grolgoth's health goes back to what it was at the beginning of the phase. I've been playing for years and I still find that unfair.
Did you fire at him while he was in the lava? That shortens the fight significantly, and makes you less likely to die before you finish it.
Re: Rayman 2
The Grolgoth second phase battle is indeed quite hard, because of the necessity to navigate the flying shell in very tight quarters without a single crash (especially when the lava rises). The Unlimited Ammo Easter egg makes the fight much easier, as it saves you those trips down the tunnels, and you can just fly up and down the main chamber.

Re: Rayman 2
i had no issues with the ship actually besides getting lost and the fact that it had a stupid huge hitbox and i kept bumping into things. also uglette was there. no the first section was the worst i feel, that section with the spinny lasers is like up to luck i SWEAR and i kept getting stuck there.. and also twice inconventiently standing right where a pirate was drilling up from the ground which, for some godforsaken reason, kills you instantly making you go through the laser section again. looking back it wasnt that bad actually except the laser section still is stupid as hellPluMGMK wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 7:27 pm Which bit of the Iron Mountains? never thought about firing at him in the lava though i just kinda fired all 5 shots away instantly.. will make sure to know for the future

I've had the same issues with the ship's hitbox when I first played, it took me a while to realise what I was supposed to do.

I have had that happen to me once in the location you mentioned and in The Sanctuary of Water and Ice. Strange how it just kills you no matter how you much hp you have.ZelenPixel wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 8:48 pm and also twice inconventiently standing right where a pirate was drilling up from the ground which, for some godforsaken reason, kills you instantly making you go through the laser section again.

Tbh, I wouldn't have considered the Iron Mountains the most difficult part of the game, I do find it a bit tedious when trying to get all the Yellow Lums, since that Walking Shell segment can be very finicky. Also not fond of the spinning platform with the two switches, never can seem to get a good shot in.
I'd consider Stone and Fire to be the more irritating, particularly that final segment in the other temple with the Walking Shell, to this day I don't think I've ever managed that in one go.
Re: Rayman 2
I think the spinning platform has a bug where one of the switches doesn't attract the shot well enough. Same thing is experienced with the last switch in the sliding part of the Prison Ship. It can always be a bit frustrating and take several tries.
My worst experience collecting yellow lums is also the sliding part of the Prison Ship, namely the very last part where you have to slide around the hole, collect the lums, then jump in. If you miss a lum, and hit the wall, you can sometimes lose enough velocity and be dragged into the hole without the ability to escape, and then of course you have to replay the entire level to get what you missed. Happened to me a few times and is pretty annoying.

Re: Rayman 2
God, that part always stressed me out. In fact, the whole level feels like it was carefully crafted to stress me out, I always got anxious before playing the Iron Mountains, perhaps it's just me.PluMGMK wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 7:27 pmWhich bit of the Iron Mountains? Re: Rayman 2
that would explain it because yikes on multiple occacions i saw the shot just completely pass THROUGH it and it sucksdr_st wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 9:18 am I think the spinning platform has a bug where one of the switches doesn't attract the shot well enough. not helped by the fact that my keyboard or the game seemingly cant register 3 inputs at once(shift/ctrl and maybe space are exempt for this) so i cant just walk diagonally and attack
havent had trouble with the switch in the prison ship[ but some lums just felt like. impossible to collect and theres yet another seemingly near frame perfect jump ughh.. ive had enough of that with the sanctuary of rock and lava and that one flower that seems up to luck whether you get a random boost of speed to propel you to the next one or you end up falling just short of it and dying
