< was trying to build one on Gentoo, but < would get a random programming error with "No such file or directory" eventually, and there was no useful info in the errors at all. < started blaming Gentoo, so < started trying to build it on Arch only to have Firefox do the same thing twice in the space of 10 minutes.

Re: The You Game!
< decided to look up that cosmic ray business again and found this. By this person's calculations, if you don't have ECC RAM, you've got a 96% chance of a bit flip from a cosmic ray in the space of three days, if you have 4 GB RAM.
Re: The You Game!
< wonders what this means if < has 32GB, < assumes it's a much higher chance again then.
<'s CPU can apparently support ECC RAM, but < doesn't feel like buying more when < only done so recently.
EDIT: < also just found out that apparently "make check" can fail with -j16 or higher at times, and < is using -j16.

Re: The You Game!
< guesses it means there's a 96% chance of a bit flip in nine hours rather than three days – and < also has 32 GB of non-ECC RAM!
< is appalled…
< doesn't recall ever setting anything up to cache any disk data in that RAM though, so that might explain why < hasn't seen any catastrophes, touch wood…

Re: The You Game!
< isn't sure if <'s distros are set up to cache data into the RAM, < is only chrooted at the moment setting up the base system again. < did have the base system working at one stage, but then rust wouldn't compile with an error, and < somehow broke GCC, then just threw it and decided to start again.
If < gets this up and running, < is making a backup of the partition, so that < can restore it and just edit the fstab should < manage to break it. < expects a trip to dependency hell before < gets a display manager running.
EDIT: < figured out that < had been chrooting with "/tools/bin/bash" instead of "/bin/bash", which likely explains why things kept going wrong also.

< Was woken up last night by the sound of very strong winds outside.
When < fell back asleep, < had a bizarre vivid dream involving Ark: Survival Evolved.

Ah yes, that'll probably do it all right!Steo wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2020 8:50 pm EDIT: < figured out that < had been chrooting with "/tools/bin/bash" instead of "/bin/bash", which likely explains why things kept going wrong also.![]()
Re: The You Game!
< really is such an eejit at times.
Things seems to be going well with the build so far now that < is doing it properly (touch wood). < is at the stage of getting xorg ready, then < will try build a display manager and environment.
< also says hi to ^^.
EDIT: < got as far as seeing a display manager work, but then no environment showed in the selection. < also somehow managed to accidentally install a virtual keyboard, < will disable that later and try figure out why the environment isn't there.
Re: The You Game!
<’s happy ^’s doing well with the LFS setup!
Re: The You Game!
< figured out that part of KDE Framework hadn't been properly installed, so < is reinstalling this, then reinstalling Plasma. < needs to find out what's making the on screen keyboard show up though, since < will never need this.
EDIT: < thinks the keyboard is just something to do with the sddm conf actually, that's an easy one then.

Re: The You Game!
< recently started playing Psychonauts and < already loves it! It's an incredibly fun and unique 3D platformer, < says, has a deep story, however.....
Before, figuring out which level is next from the hub worlds went with ease for <, however, < realised that < made a huge mistake that is very dumb, but... < somehow created 2 save files by accident, which today tripped up < big time, since < was doing basically nothing figuring out where to go for an hour, before < actually figured out how to access the next level.

< fixed this issue by looking at the number of collectibles < had collected so far, and the save in which < had more collectibles meant that technically, < was further in the game in that save, so < made a text document telling which save < has to load from now on to avoid confusion.
< thinks this was the biggest Globox moment < had so far.

Re: The You Game!
< couldn't get Plasma to work on LFS so far, it complains about Qt5 segfaulting, and all < gets is a cursor on a black screen (the error is in journalctl). < decided to try install xfce as a test, just to see if <'s system had other issues, and to <'s surprise, xfce worked.
< is making <'s first post from the newly built system. It's going to need more work, but the fact that it's running is a good start!

Re: The You Game!
< has finally fully finished Pokemon Puzzle League.
Which is great, bc < has neglected to finish Redemption. Especially bc < has an idea for something but < needs to get started with the rest of the challenges to do it. < really should start working on it again tonight.

Re: The You Game!
< is going to rebuild the toolchain and then make multilib support work, that way < can make Steam and Wine work. < will try figure out why Plasma won't work later, but it's fine for now since xfce is working.

< hasn’t heard anything from R4Y lately. < wonders if he is alright since he seemed depressed the last time < saw him around here.

< hasn’t seen < him on Discord or Twitch either. Though tbh < has been spending much more time here than anywhere else lately anyway.
Re: The You Game!
< has been busy, aside from trying to set up LFS in <'s spare time too. < still spends some time here though. Speaking of which, < needs to sort out the poll results again, < is late with it.

< thinks he’ll come back at some point too, yeah.
< finally picked Redemption back up tonight. Oddly enough, < played Mr. Stone’s Peaks first thing and was able to get the achievement in the first try.
< still has a little bit to go but < is almost done. But < will continue later.
