Well I like the vintage feel of it but it lacks contrast in many places and could do with an overhaul.

After using the current theme so much I just think the old one makes it look like my monitor is missing the colour blue for the most part

Yeah, exactly. It was phpBB’s default post-count-based rank system

Well yes, I believe there's currently 2 themes you can choose, under 'board preferences' in the user control panel. Pirate-Community and Pirate-Community 10. Try each of them out sometime!
