Lutris really does make things easy though, it even has the option to easily use different prefixes if need be. Almost every Windows program seems to work on wine too, and some that have rendering issues work in a virtual desktop. Steam Proton also makes most games work really well, so it's even good for gaming, and the mesa drivers are great for AMD, better than Windows AMD drivers in fact. I've grown to like Linux a lot.

Re: Rayman Redemption
It has been simplified a lot depending on the distro you use. I like that you get the option to use simple ones, and also the option to go for a really advanced distro. I started with Mint and Ubuntu, then eventually tried Fedora just because I had issues with Debian. After I got Debian working, I used it for a few months before trying Arch, then eventually Gentoo. I still have Arch and Gentoo installed, but I work on LFS a lot in my spare time since I already got this far with it.

Re: Rayman Redemption
New mod incoming!
This time, it's a mod that replaces Magician's EU voice with US one:
https://ulozto.net/file/fVgPMge09Tq1/audiogroup1-dat
https://mega.nz/file/ul5nkTpK#2M_7CbTRP ... dEsfmbIbO8
The reason why I bring this mod is for multiple reasons:
- I prefer Magician's US voice
- It is a canonical English voice of him as evident even in the ending of the European version which features the voice of an American voice actor proving he was the one who recorded script first. Why was later specifically the opening altered in European releases I don't know but American voice actor did a better job imo.
- When Rayman Redemption just got released and had the first version out, I asked Ryemanni if any update could include a toggle to switch Magician's voice. He said it will be considered. Well, since the current version is said to be the last one unless there is an update related to bugs, I think it's safe to say such option will never come out officially.
Special thanks to Anon for hex editing the file and to Leo Rack for trying his best to make American audio track fit with Redemption's opening since there was a serious mismatch in length.
Instructions:
1. Backup the original audiogroup1.dat file
2. Copy the one that you downloaded from one of my links into the game directory
3. ???
4. Profit!
You might notice that the mod is not flawless and that near the end there might be some slight mismatch but it is almost unnoticeable. It wasn't possible to be done better as it seems the opening of Redemption was specifically synced with European audio track length in mind.
Still, hoping this gets pinned in the first post too. I really dig American Magician's voice.

Re: Rayman Redemption
Hi new guy here,
Haven’t played Redemption myself yet, but I thought I’d ask about the most recent version. Has the opening cinematic seen any sort of changes or improvements? I recently looked at an online playthrough of Redemption and noticed that the opening cinematic was missing a lot of animations and effects from the Playstation version. There’s a lot of static images in parts where there should be some animations, particle effects, and parallax in backgrounds as the camera moves. Also, some of the animations that were present were off in timing; Rayman says “No Problem” after he’s already given a thumbs up rather than right as he’s doing it.

Re: Rayman Redemption
Opening in Rayman Redemption is not even video file playing but literally just a game using sprites in realtime. It was created specifically for this game and it was synced with European audio file in mind, which made American audio file mod much harder.
So nope, latest version of Rayman Redemption did not change opening and it is the same like in any other version before the latest one.
Don't expect it to be changed because Ryemanni confirmed current version is the last one unless he finds some bug to fix.

Re: Rayman Redemption
I noticed this before how their voice is different. I did grow up hearing the EU voice, but this is cool since people can have the option.OCG wrote: Wed Jul 22, 2020 11:27 pm New mod incoming!

Re: Rayman Redemption
Maybe someone can mod the original games opening FMV into redemption? Although that might not be possible
Maybe just mod the new intro to include more of the animations and effects from the original? I just feel like the way the new one is now kind of kills the atmosphere a little bit. Especially when comparing it to how nice the original one looked.

Re: Rayman Redemption
Unless Ryemanni releases the source code for the game, I doubt it will be possible because the current opening is not some video file that can be replaced with hex editing with another. Opening of Rayman Redemption is literally just a bunch of sprites and backgrounds with a code written when to perform what animation. Everything is done in realtime and not already recorded.
For original FMV to be added, that whole section would have to be coded differently and instead of these sprites that play, then FMV video could be inserted which I would definitely love to upscale and do myself if possible.
Maybe this is possible without Ryemanni releasing the source code with some reverse engineering but I dunno if someone will do it.

Re: Rayman Redemption
Thanks for the new patch OCG and others, I prefer the American voice too and this worked perfectly (besides the synching issues!!)
But as I mentioned before on the other forum, the lack of most of the animation from the original intro did disappoint me, and I wish a little more care could have gone into making it closer to the original game, considering how well the rest was recreated. The sprites of The Magician (by MarkProductions I think) looked great though!!

Re: Rayman Redemption
Sorry for the bump, but it is possible to get lives back in the Demise difficulty mode?

Re: Rayman Redemption
For the short time I played that mode, I do not believe it is possible to find lives in the levels, since they and the big power ups are rigged. Perhaps the shop might still have some.
Re: Rayman Redemption
It's come to my attention that people are actually printing the box art for this game, burning it to a CD, and trying to sell it on ebay.
It's not fair on Ryemanni since he worked on this for three years, I only find it somewhat comedic because it actually sounds so ridiculous. I'll quote Ryemanni from Twitter just to inform others:

Here is a link to the tweet. It has come to my attention that someone is selling printed physical copies of Rayman Redemption on ebay. DO NOT BUY THESE. The game is COMPLETELY FREE, and you can even print the cover yourself from the Gamejolt page. Do not get scammed! #Rayman #Rayman2020 #GameMaker #Fangame

Re: Rayman Redemption
I have to admit this is kinda funny despite how terrible that is.
Somebody must be desperate for money to be selling a game that was ALREADY FOR FREE!

Re: Rayman Redemption
It's a scam basically, but it's only funny because of how silly it is. I'm pretty sure the majority of people are aware that Redemption is a fan made title which is free, but you may never know if there's a minority of people who would fall for this still.

Re: Rayman Redemption
At least this will make for a much better bootleg than Rayman IV.
Re: Rayman Redemption
A much better bootleg indeed!
Here's the listing if anyone wants a good laugh or if they stupidly want to buy it.
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Rayman-REDEMPTI ... 4258077872
They even go as far as to list it as Ubisoft, and to put "EXCLUSIVE" in the listing.

Re: Rayman Redemption
Quite funny indeed! I just hope it doesn't reflect badly on the creator of the game.
Re: Rayman Redemption
That's the possible downside to it, hopefully it doesn't get too out of hand!
