Help with signatures
I'm so confused right now. You know how users have the "Discussion" or talk page where they can talk? Well, I went to my preferences page and edited my signature to "[[User:Aaron|Aaron]]". This would mean that if you clicked on my name in my signature, it would act like a link and take you to my userpage (User:Aaron). Now, I've set it to exactly that, and I would do what's required for your signature and your timestamp to appear (the --~~~~ thing) but it wasn't my username that appeared as the clickable link, the thing that I typed (the [[User:Aaron|Aaron]]) appeared as that clickable link and so whenever I try to include my signature to my message, it would always end up looking like this:
Now, for other users' signatures, I've checked and it worked perfectly for them, but for me, it never works. What am I doing wrong here?
Oh, and also, whenever I include my sig, it doesn't just make the text I have in my "Edit signature" option in my preferences, but it also keeps adding random stuff in that I didn't include there. It gives me this when I go to the edit page of my user talk page:
--[[User:Aaron|[[User:Aaron|Aaron]]]] ([[User talk:Aaron|talk]])
Why is this? Also, I want the little gold fist icon from Rayman 1 to appear in my RayWiki sig.

Re: Help with signatures
Open RayWIki, click preferences on the upper right and then you'll see a section where it says signature. Just type Aaron into the box and save it, that should fix it.
EDIT: Alright then try:
and tick the box "Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)".
If you want the fist on the left, rather than the right, then try:

But then why doesn't the other one that I said work? The [[User:Aaron|Aaron]]? It certainly should if it worked for the others.Steo wrote: Wed Feb 20, 2019 4:58 pm Open RayWIki, click preferences on the upper right and then you'll see a section where it says signature. Also, the one you told me to try out only gave me this: I seriously don't get it. For the first one, I typed out the exact thing that was required for it to work.
oh my gosh i hate this
Re: Help with signatures
Did you definitely use the [[]] around the sig? The way you're typing that first one is different to mine. Mine is
with that box under it checked.
Code: Select all
[[File:Steo_sig.png|60px|link=User:Steo]]Re: Help with signatures
I did. Also, how would it be different?
Re: Help with signatures
I apologise, I left png and not gif in the box.
It should be:
If that still fails, try this on its own as a test with only the fist:
It should be:
Code: Select all
[[Aaron|link=User:Aaron]][[File:Gold_fist.gif|class=sprite|link=User:Aaron]]Code: Select all
[[File:Gold_fist.gif|class=sprite|link=User:Aaron]]Re: Help with signatures
Alright, so what you were saying was actually true apparently. So, my first "[" didn't appear as yours indeed I guess?
Another thing, I've fixed the issue! I did it by copying another user's sig and pasting it into the box, then replacing the parts of the other user's sig (the image and name) with mine and it worked!
I actually decided to scrap the golden fist idea for the sig and went for the Magician's hat from Rayman Origins instead because it just looks so fancy. Plus the "Aaron" takes you to my userpage now.
By the way, this is what it looks like:

Re: Help with signatures
That explains it then. Well that's cool, it's just kind of confusing at first because the forum and wiki code varies a lot.
Glad you got it sorted.

Re: Help with signatures
This is a really minor issue, but I noticed that some signatures in the wiki start with:
Instead of
Is there a way to automatically insert the first option when you use your signature or do you have to change it manually every time?
Code: Select all

Re: Help with signatures
I think the editor will always insert a double dash when you click the signature button so my best advice is be to add the em dash to your signature in the preferences page and remove those two dashes manually every time you sign a message.

In that case, I guess I rather stick with the double dash, but thanks a lot for the adviceHunchman801 wrote: Sun Oct 11, 2020 8:16 pm I think the editor will always insert a double dash when you click the signature button so my best advice is be to add the em dash to your signature in the preferences page and remove those two dashes manually every time you sign a message.

Re: Help with signatures
Maybe some browsers autocorrect two dashes to an em dash? That might explain why it appears in some cases...

Re: Help with signatures
I just realised I have never used this topic and I have been wanting to make a signature for my RayWiki profile since i created it. I'm probably going to have questions on this (like I want an icon and a unique signature for this) but i'll get to that when I have my resources ready.

Re: Help with signatures
Reading the old discussion on em dashes is funny, considering that that character is now considered a shibboleth for spotting AI-generated text
