Rayman is basically trading living things (lums) for some abilities in Revolution, damn, he's cruel, but I could probably understand, lifting heavy barrels from time to time which slow you down can be both painful and tiresome, he needs healthy joints to fight evil.

It's the first time I've heard of a zoo. I remember a game box that mentioned a circus, but that's about it.

Zoo, mmmm... Wait, I remember a Tumblr post mentioning a zoo collecting rare species from planets and Rayman trying to free his friends and escape it. That was the early concept/story of Rayman 2.

EDIT: tried to upload an image I downloaded from Tumblr that mention this, but had issues with uploading, tryed digging on Tumblr but found this instead.
Dunno if this was already being shared or not, in case apologies.

Well, the wiki says "zoo or circus" so I guess it's nothing new!

I would say it was deliberately censored rather than being lost! :P

Yeah, more likely censored in the English version, since some countries allow certain type of content while others deem it inappropriate if it's being targeted to a younger audience (which is kind of understandable from that pov).
The rating system of "3+" games containing adult humour is another topic I guess.

Indeed it was! The French version is pretty good as it offers multiple levels of reading, appealing both to kids and adults. Maybe this was too much for the American public.

Yeah this is definitely more disturbing, since it signifies slowly torturing Rayman to death in a 3+ game. :P

I mentioned it before somewhere, but this game (initially developed for Dreamcast) was like cancelled in the middle of the project when it turned out they will need to port it to N64, and downgrade is needed. I wonder whether these screenshots come from such version, or they're just renders. Or they're just oversaturated due to scan quality. What's the date of release of this magazine?

Very nice! Have you uploaded it to the wiki as well? I think we have an article or two where it would fit in well, just don't remember their names at the moment.

Not to interrupt the thread, I want to ask if Ubisoft was to remaster/remake Rayman 2 which version would they build off from? I really like Revolution version of the game to be honest. It would be really if nice if they built that version. There's been a lot of remakes, I have feeling they might use the PC version as a base though. Then, I'm not really sure.

Great find! It's nice to read more about this pirate zoo we recently discussed. Also note the mention of the Red Rum, Gorilla Pirate and Creole Pirate names. And yeah, it's probably a good idea to have that on the wiki.

If I had to choose one, it would probably be the Dreamcast version, but ideally I would want them to also include the good stuff from the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 versions, and only the good stuff. As for Revolution specifically, I find that the cons far outweigh the pros, but we discussed it in far more depth in the worst version of Rayman 2 topic. I also find this post by Goldfist interesting.

Found another scan with an early pic of Rayman using a mushroom in a different level.

And a scan of Razorbeard still being called by his old name: Razor face and an early Ly model which was showcased before.

EDIT: Found another scan with sketches, of levels from Rayman 2, which probably were never seen online before.

Hey, thanks a lot for posting these! I've never seen the storyboards for the cutscenes, it seems that the early version of the Spyglass Pirate was just the skeleton of a normal Henchman 800 (or maybe just a different model).

The early models of Ly and Razorbeard look like Happy Meal toys .

Also, before I forget, I found this:
