Sounds like a plan for the next Rayman 2 mod. :hinhin:

Of all the times I played Rayman 2 on Dreamcast, I never noticed that they made a mistake on the translation at the Stone of Thought near the entrance to Globox Village, and forgot the word "Lum". Murfy says: "Use this purple as soon as you can and go have a look."

Indeed, I'm pretty sure this was redacted in America.

He said they were eating paint chips instead. But the manual still told him to watch his language!

What would eating paint chips even do to you? I guess they'd be harmful if they were gloss instead of emulsion though, but then again, if they're chips then they're dry...

It's very clear that a lot has been lost in translation with Rayman 3, whether willingly or not. I'm pretty sure the translators had no idea what glutes were, for example. Hence a lot of confusion.

Yeah Droolie had been talking about this recently. Apparently a Teensie says "I have to go shave my Glutes.", but apparently that's a bad translation again, as it should be "pluck", not "shave" (you can't shave feathers). This probably mislead people, since the French version says "Faut que j'aille plumer mes Glutes.", which would be "pluck".

We also came to the conclusion that it didn't make a lot of sense to think Globox was a glute anyway, as even if the correct word was shave, Globox has no hair (or feathers for that matter). :P

Wait a sec, is it possible that the translators got the impression that Globox was a Glute? That might explain the "Incredible Glute" line that basically had nothing to do with its French equivalent.

I just seen it as a reference to the Incredible Hulk, but I guess there's always a possibility. The Teensie quote about shaving glutes still doesn't add up though.

Tbh, "shave my glutes" just makes me think "shave my butt", because "glutes" is slang for the gluteal muscles. :P Not that that makes much sense either, but this is a Teensie we're talking about!

And by the way:

I think the conclusion was that they make you feel the same way as staying up all night for Record Day does. :hap:

Oy yeah, I had forgotten what the conclusion was.

Also, with the Teensie quote, it's just the fact that he said pluck instead of shave in the French version. I certainly don't think anyone would want to pluck that area. :fou:

Interesting! This further proves that they clearly misunderstood the original material (not that it was very clear to begin with), and they didn't try very hard anyway as the result is rather inconsistent.

I just noticed that the Knowledge of the World in Rayman 2 states that there are "4 types of Lums":
Snap0026.png
Off the top of my head (using only content from Rayman 2), I have yellow, red, green, blue, purple, and silver. That's 6 different types of Lums, so I wonder what on earth happened there? :fou2:

We could even open another can of worms and get onto the topic as to whether a Super Lum counts to make it 7! :fou:

I've just checked the next few entries and apparently this refers to yellow Lums, red Lums, purple Lums and blue Lums. I guess the Knowledge of the World isn't that knowledgeable. :P

The official English translation has a few mistakes, which I tried to rectify here: viewtopic.php?t=12762

But yeah, it doesn't include Silver and Green Lums in the original list. It mentions Silver ones later, as being created from the others by Fairies, but Green isn't there at all. I always took it as meaning Green Lums don't actually exist, and are just there for gameplay. (So then why did I put them on my ranklist draft? :oops2:)

So wait, even when it mentions 4 types, it doesn't include green? This makes things even weirder.

Once again found a magazine scan for Rayman 2, in which the magazine interviews Michel Ancel and asked him how he came up with Rayman's name. He answers: "It comes from the story of Raymans birth, which will soon be revealed."

Strange how it never got shown in Rayman 2 or mention in game. The only fact we know where Rayman comes from, is from the manual when Rayman was found by the fishermen.

But not how he got born and how his creation was linked to his name.

Perhaps the creation of Rayman like shown in the E3 Rayman Origins trailer, originally was meant to be shown or explained in Rayman 2.
