Yeah, great stuff as always! And yeah, this game is looking to be very promising, can't wait to see what the game will be like when we finish it, we're making great progress!
It's pretty uncanny, but really beautiful all the same! I guess Origins had the "Snoring Tree" so-called because it resounded with the snoring of everyone inside, but then you guys took it further with spires that actually have mouths and snore themselves! I guess if they're snoring, they're not actually malevolent? (For some reason I distrust mouths and faces that form part of the environment )
Finished a song for the game yesterday which I made for one of the potentially scary levels we're going to have in the game (if we decide on making any, that is):
The snoring spires remind of the place where you fight Reflux (in his final form) that is surrounded by plants with giant eyes. The Spookland theme sounds great.
I'm trying to get the team to use actual chiptune as of lately, and I had started working on this beforehand. I probably won't use it in game now if the team will be sticking to NES (it's easier for them to use), but here is a remix of the other Morning Glory song on Genesis/Mega Drive using DefleMask:
I LOVE the art direction here, it's fantastic. I also love the Bandana Pirate, such nice usage of strong shapes!
Music is good too, and the gameplay is promising, though I do think it being really zoomed out makes it hard to see the detail of the sprites. Either way, y'all are killing it. Keep it up!
Thanks people! We have changed it so be more zoomed in, and focus on 720p instead of 1080p. This way you can see things better. There are also some changes we're working on as of now, and the level design will be nothing like what was seen in the little showcase video. I even coded the game from scratch since recording that due to the code being bad.
I also made an alternate version of the Genesis song for the sake of it, to try make the bass and snare louder with more sustain like the original NES version of it, along with changing some instruments near the outro:
I made another short one today intended to be used for a rush level. I slightly altered some notes to have less attack after uploading the video, but since it's such a minor change, I didn't bother to reupload it, as it sounds almost the same anyway.
Thanks. I also made a change to Morning Glory, where I tried to draw an FDS waveform to make it sound like slap bass. I think this will be the final version of this song and I'll finally stop messing with it before someone kills me for it.
