Re: Rayman Legends
Does it not lack the Murfy's Challenges painting from the PS Vita version, as well as the new costumes from the PS4 and Xbox One versions, though?
Re: Rayman Legends
It has a painting called Murfy's Touch instead, and I can't remember about the characters exactly, but Switch has a lot of characters.

Re: Rayman Legends
Sure, it brings additional content, I meant to point out that it could also have included all the stuff from the other versions. As for costumes, I can't quite remember either, so I'm not too sure about this one.
Re: Rayman Legends
I see what you mean then yeah, and even the Wii U version was the only one to allow 5 players.

Re: Rayman Legends
Because one can be Murfy, right? So can you only have, like, 4 regular characters, or 3 regular characters and Murfy?
Re: Rayman Legends
As far as I'm aware you're supposed to actually be allowed have 5 regular players on Wii U. It would probably be chaotic though, as if it wouldn't already be with 4 players.
Re: Rayman Legends
It's 4 "regular" players and one murfy, yeah.

Re: Rayman Legends
What about the Switch version then? I mean, it has Murfy, but a maximum of 4 characters, so you can only have 3 regular characters on top of Murfy?

Re: Rayman Legends
I thought Switch had 5 as well but this must have the Wii U version, then.

Re: Rayman Legends
So DepressingChild was streaming earlier today and he somehow managed to die in the loading screen.
Any idea how this happened?

I've never seen that happen before.

Re: Rayman Legends
That glitch is named random combustion, it is one of the glitches you can encounter in distance challenges after reaching certain distances. But I've never seen one in the loading screen!

Re: Rayman Legends
It happens in the challenge levels because the metres run overflow a signed 16-bit integer and the game thinks you're OOB, right?

Re: Rayman Legends
I remember the way the game stores floating values in RAM is the problem, it's due to floating-point limitations: the higher the value is the more decimal places loses being less precise, which causes glitches in distance challenges.
Other glitches that are caused by this are Stuck on the floor, Weird chains, Stuck on the wall, Game freeze and Stuck on the edge.
These are the distance glitches I remember at the moment (apart from the graphical ones)
In Dojo distance challenges the score (Lums) isn't stored as a floating value but as an integer value, which doesn't have this issue, this is why there aren't glitches in Dojo

Re: Rayman Legends
Ah, that makes more sense! I thought I'd seen it happen around 32.768 km before, but then of course metres can be subdivided so it makes more sense as a float. But actually it's really poor design… Sure they can display a decimal number of metres on the screen, but why on Earth wouldn't they use a simple integer representation internally? Distance requires the same precision no matter where you are in the level, so making precision worsen the further you progress seems like a really silly design decision.

Re: Rayman Legends
Yeah, the devs didn't pay much attention to this.
I remember writing with a dev, he was surprised when I explained how these glitches work, he answered that he remembers the testers were playing in 20km, of course they haven't found something to fix, they haven't thought that there are crazy players who make incredible scores! xD

Re: Rayman Legends
Such overflows have been present in games for as long as there have been games. A friend once told me that as a kid he mastered "Roller Coaster Tycoon" so much, that his daily income overflew and became negative.
And as far as testing only up to a limit... well, another friend, told me that at one of his jobs he had an obese coworker, whose Yamaha motorcycle buckled and wouldn't work properly. Apparently he said, the Japanese did not think there could be a guy so fat.

Re: Rayman Legends
Haha, you're right, they could try making more inclusive motorcycles though!
As Ubisoft could care more to fix bugs and glitches after releasing their games in general!
For example, in Rayman Legends Definitive Edition there are some glitches that aren't present in other ports, mostly one which is encountered to everyone in which you can't open the last Lucky Tickets obtained in Murfy's Touch levels unless you use another glitch.
This Switch port has been released years ago and they still haven't released an update to fix these annoying glitches..

Re: Rayman Legends
Overflows I can understand, but using a float for something that should have constant precision – really?
It's not something they can fix either, since it must be pretty fundamental to the way they've coded everything about the engine! So it's not that they don't care, it's just that they'd have to redo the thing from scratch!
Those other glitches sound easy to fix all right though, pity they show so little care for the so-called "Definitive Edition"

Re: Rayman Legends
Probably they named it "Definitive Edition" because of its exclusive features: exclusive glitches and bugs! Just joking
