Rayman Revolution PAL framerate (PS2)

Hi,

I've recently gotten back into the Rayman franchise.
I picked up a used copy of Rayman Revolution, and literally threw that disc into PCSX2, but the framerate is very poor, seems to be a maximum of 25fps (100% speed).
I do have an actual PS2 console, but our projector doesn't have any analogue video inputs!! :tssk:
So I can't compare the emulator's results with an actual PS2.

Is Rayman Revolution (PAL) capped at 25 fps? If so, any way to force it into progressive scan mode for a better framerate?
I am aware that there's a patch to make it run at 60 fps, but this is only for the NTSC version.
I did also try Rayman 3 (PAL) on PCSX2 - if I enable progressive scan, my PC is capable of a smooth 60 fps without any framerate drops.

IIRC, I'm pretty sure the PC version of Rayman 2 ran at 60 fps, but as of a few years ago, I couldn't get this to work on Windows x64.
Now that I do have a retro WIndows XP laptop, of course I now can't find my Rayman 2 game disc. :pfff:

Rayman Revolution is notorious for frame-rate / slowdown issues. It is just not a very efficient engine, it seems. It affects real PS2 to some extent, and is worse in emulation. A real powerful PC may be required to get a good experience, equivalent to the console.

As far as the PC version of Rayman 2 - if you buy the GOG version, it should run well on Windows x64 (mine does). The original CD may have issues even on 32bit XP. You can probably find a CD image on Archive.org, which we won't share since it's technically piracy.

With that said, Revolution does have some extra content over the PC version, although it may not be as fun to play.

Thanks for the reply, but this isn't a slow down issue, in fact my PC maintains a solid 25 frames per second without the game speed slowing down.
But why only 25 frames per second? The game seems to be hard coded to run at half of the PAL refresh rate (50Hz) and yes, the emulator is always running at 100% speed without skipping a beat.

I fear this may be a trademark of the dreaded RenderWare engine! :sad:
I have a huge disliking towards this engine, primarily because older GTA games used the RenderWare engine, and they were also limited to 25 (PAL) or 30 (NTSC) frames per second. Even the PC versions of those were limited to 30 frames per second!

However there is a fix for the NTSC version of Rayman Revolution, which enables it to run at 60 frames per second. I was wondering if anybody knows of a PAL equivalent (for 50 frames per second).

If I recall it did seem to install and launch successfully on a Windows XP virtual machine. But due to the nature of virtualization, there's no hardware acceleration, so the frame rate was too poor for it to be playable. On Windows 7 x64 which I had at the time, the installer wouldn't even launch.
