Thanks a lot for the link! At first I didn't understand what that zip file was, but now I know it is one of the R2 demos.Fifo wrote: Fri Oct 01, 2021 9:59 am I’ve found a copy of the files, here you go.

Re: Rayman 1
I see people say that Rayman it's from atari jaguar, but I think it's wrong.
although the development was reworked first to this console after of the SNES-CD prototypes, when the team began to work on the PlayStation version, the game was more focus to this console by the CD format. technically the reason why the SNES-CD version was cancelled was was because the CD add-on was cancelled, and the team want not work on a SNES cartridge.
Not only the PlayStation's CD format was the reason for be more focus for make the game for The PlayStation, also the poor sells and bad games from the atari jaguar was another reason for do for focus the the PlayStation version. this same reason was because the 32X and 3DO version were cancelled.
The game release first on the PlayStation and this version was the version the everybody played. later Rayman was ported for The Sega Saturn and MS-DOS later. meanwhile the atari jaguar version release some days later than the PlayStation release, but not got the same success than the PlayStation version for the previous reason.
in-fact in some commercials and magazine articles only do mentions the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC versions. lack the atari jaguar version.

Re: Rayman 1
Well, you know that the Jaguar version uses a completely different engine from the others: https://raymanpc.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 1#p1414861
I seem to recall getting the sense that the Jaguar engine was some kind of continuation of what they were doing on SNES, and then the other engine was done from scratch.

Re: Rayman 1
I knew that about the engines, but I don't know if the team got work on a build on CD for the SNES-CD before than the add-on was cancelled. maybe the team only got work in some many builds on cartridge.

Re: Rayman 1
I don't know if anyone ever saw this back when it aired a few years ago but I decided today that I'd pluck out that segment in the TV show Go 8-Bit where two celebs tried playing the original game and failing miserably at Pink Plant Woods. The whole show can still be watched in the UK on the UKTV Play app but seeing as I have doubts that it can be viewed outside of the UK I'd plonk it here.

Re: Rayman 1
Nice that they chose Rayman, though it has indeed given the players quite a lot of trouble.

Re: Rayman 1
As far as I remember this was from the second from last episode of season 3, which was the last season before the show was cancelled (the full list of games the series covered and who they got in to play them is here.
I wasn't able to watch it when the episode was first broadcast but I had it recorded when I used to be able to use Sky and watched it a couple days later, and man it was rather painful to see them have this much trouble with Pink Plant Woods. It's not often that you see Rayman on any bit of national TV, let alone on a British freeview channel like Dave, so it was all fine.

Re: Rayman 1
Thank God they didn't have them play one of the harder levels.
Re: Rayman 1
the PlayStation version it's considered the best version of Rayman 1.
but what is the second best version?
for me I considered the Saturn version the second best version.
because compared with the MS-DOS, the graphics has a similar resolution than the PlayStation version. although that don't has the same visual effects than the PlayStation version, but this version has exclusive visual effects, like the level transition and the Mr. Dark fight on the background. while the MS-DOS version the background and overall graphics looks with less resolution. about the background, the Saturn version has many different background than other versions, most notable in Picture City.
The music on Saturn although don't has many tracks from the PlayStation release, this version has almost the Soundtrack but yeah, many sound effect are different and many voice clips are high pitched than other versions. while the MS-DOS version although than the soundtrack is also almost complete, the levels don't play theirs music that must play, every tracks from a world play on the same level.

Re: Rayman 1
What I love about the Rayman games, is that there are so many different versions and they all have advantages and disadvantages. There is no one "definitive" version, and with modern emulation capabilities you can really enjoy all the different versions on a single system.

Re: Rayman 1
Go 8bit would have been there all day if they even just played Allegro Presto and tried to get past the trumpets, let alone Pencil Pentathlon or Space Mama's Crater. ;P
Re: Rayman 1
Go 8 BIt would run 3 more seasons if they were trying to complete Rayman 1
Re: Rayman 1
I was looking about the Japanese versions of MS-DOS and Sega Saturn.
I see that compared with the Japanese PlayStation version, those versions don't were so much changed.
you see, the Japanese PlayStation version change many sound effects, voice clips, many graphics, and remove many dialogues. however, the Japanese MS-DOS and Sega Saturn, just add the FMV from the Japanese PlayStation version, removed some voice clips on the MS-DOS version and translate the dialogues that the PlayStation version simply removed.

Can a comprehensive list of those changes be found anywhere?

Re: Rayman 1
I made a strange discovery today.
A while back I was looking through some PDFs of an old computing magazine called Acorn User, hoping I'd personally find some info on some games I used to play at primary school on Acorn computers. In one issue, I came across this.
A quick google later lead me to find that it came from a German tech demo called Reisnac that was shown in a German computing convention in 1997, and I found this video as well.
At the 1:31 mark, you see what's essentially a bootleg Rayman looking thing holding an acorn, with no mention at the end of any person to do with Ubisoft. Seems like the Acorn User writers knew what Rayman was beforehand so it might not have fooled anyone.
Cursed y/y?

Re: Rayman 1
Very cool Cairnie, like Hunch once said, every day we make new discoverys!
It remembers me of the Rayman Design Bible from 1993 that has a 3D Rayman art made by Ancel with ray-tracing.
The only thing i really need is the MS-DOS version of Rayman-Kun (i mean, the Rayman 1 JPN version for DOS)
and if i once see the Rayman 1 keychain or clock given in the E3 95, i could buy it in 0,00000000000000000001 ultra maxium nano dano second

Re: Rayman 1
It is incredible that you were able to find that Cairnie, it really looks like a rare bootleg Rayman figure.
Re: Rayman 1
I don't see so much mentions to the Nokia 9210/Symbian version of Rayman 1.
this version is similar to the Pocket PC version, but with very widescreen.
I see some screenshots of this version with many differences such as the hud. so I don't know if one of these screenshots is a outdated or early version of this game. also, game's cover.

Re: Rayman 1
So it's basically the GBC version, but with a huge field of view?
Re: Rayman 1
I made a translation of the Japanese Flyers of the GBC version.
the level section say the next:
in addition the Pocket PC and Palm OS were also released in Japan.
Translation:Story
is similar to the plot from the intro sequence, but this version don't any mention to the Toons/Electoons and Dark Rayman is mentioned. also about the part that say "Help the fairy, gain magic power" can explain why Rayman get his power during the game, because he is recovering the fairy's magic.Story
Mr. Dark, an evil incarnation that robs the fairies of their power and wraps the world in darkness. The varied map is full of monsters and traps. In addition to the mysterious Black Rayman! Help the fairy, gain magic power, and hurry to chase Mr. Dark!
the level section say the next:
Translation:不思議な植物が生い茂る ジャングル・ステージ
雲の中に楽器や音符が浮かぶ スカイ・ステージ
切り立った岩山の ロック・ステージ
奇妙な地下世界の ミステリー・ステージ
一面暗闇の不気味な森の ラスト・ステージ
Air Tunes is named "Sky stage" although that has more sense called it Music stage. interestingly, the French name of Band Land in the Original Rayman is The Chromatic Sky, both levels are actually levels with musical theme, maybe exist a connection between the sky and things about music.Jungle stage, overgrown with mysterious plants.
Sky stage, musical instruments and musical notes floating in the clouds
Rock stage, on a steep rocky mountain
Mystery stage, Strange underground world
The last stage, of the eerie forest of darkness
in addition the Pocket PC and Palm OS were also released in Japan.
