Well, it has been a week, and despite a few valiant attempts, the question was not answered. Therefore it is time to move on.

The correct answer is the lum magnet, which costs 200 lums for a single level. Personally, I think this is such an overpowering gadget that it is essentially a cheat to use. Then again, I never used any gadgets ever, so what do I know?

Could it be Eat at Joe's part 2 because the "darkness" effect doesn't work any more? Just speculating here, I didn't even know there was a graphics setting.

That is correct! Only in PCI1 (fast) mode does the darkness effect work. In PCI2 (slow) and VESA modes it does not.

Since you have given an almost complete answer up until this point, it may be a bit unfair to let someone else add the missing part and just snatch it. However, I also want to give players a chance to continue playing, so I'm going to make an ad-hoc change.
