Heyy :)

With the new custom graphics items, I'm actually working on a remaster of a very old ReDesigner level I made before. The level will completly change but the theme will be the same.

Wow, Pokémon in Rayman ReDesigner, I love this idea! 8)
Can we use your custom graphics in our Rayman ReDesigner levels?

Of course, if we do so, we'll credit you!
It gives me some inspiration for new levels! :)

It took longer to finish it than I expected, but here it is! Rainy Forest is here!

You can finally play the "rainy forest" with neither "rain" or a "forest" in Rayman ReDesigner. :hap:
Speaking of rain, I’ll probably do something about this for the future Mediafire release...
Of course, everything is just as before and so you can play any of the four versions (Game Boy Color, Pocket PC, Palm OS Color, and Palm OS Greyscale), and you have access to both the new and original graphics. Differences in the level design are even more insignificant this time, the most notable changes being the Palm OS Color version using many more trigger tiles as well as some platforms from Arcane Forest in the first parts (whose equivalents aren’t added here as the size differences would change the platforming parts too much).
I could have used the R2 Lily Pads once again here to have something closer to the shape of the original platforms, but I chose to use the R1 ones instead as they blend more efficiently with the environment here due to the GBC game’s static Lily Pad platforms being clearly inspired by the ones from the original Rayman.

Skins haven’t been improved yet, but there’s a new GBC version of Blue Rayman and an altered GBC skin (named "GBC ReReDesigned" :hap: ) featuring different details and more "animations" and expressions have been added, so you can tell me what you think about it. Should the skins go in this direction, or should I keep building from the previous ones?
As usual, these skins are based on the recreation made by ShinyRaichu94.

Despite how useless they are, I’ve made some lite versions once again. You still have to resize their graphics by making them twice as big and you have to edit the third section of Rainy Forest and the bonus pictures so they can fit.

Thanks, I also made a different version of the beanstalks for all graphics of this section, so that’s eight different giant beanstalks in total. :fou:

Such speed! You could have at least waited for me to finish the post here. :hap:
Jokes aside, thanks a lot for playing it! I’ll go check that out in a moment when I’m done with my daily tasks! :noel:

So... about Rocky Peaks... will I make it?... YES.
Will its incredible music be as inconceivably dreadful as it used to be? YES.
Will I also remake the other worlds? YES.
Will my other levels come out in a century? YES.
When will Rocky Peaks come out? I dunno. Just like my original levels, I have no proper release time frame. The most optimistic possibility is for the end of this month.
Anyway, it’ll be the opportunity for some of you to finally find out where the Stone Head enemies from Redemption actually came from! ^^

I commission money for an animation based on Globox from that one artist who did a Rayman 1 style for Globox while the animator who animated him did him justice. Give him some support mates!

Alright, Rayman GBC ReDesigned needs your opinions :!:
I tried to change the skin’s face following some feedback I got on YouTube, but I’m not too sure if it’s better or worse... You can see the original skin used until now in the first picture, and the new version in the second picture.
Tell me which is the best, and why (if possible). Which features should be kept or changed? Should I go for something completely different? You decide! :)
Capture d’écran (14570).png
Capture d’écran (14571).png
This will determine with which design I’ll continue the skin from.

Aside from that, Rocky Peaks is finally making some smooth progress! I mostly have to work on the fourth level and the extra versions, now!
It was incredibly difficult to remake some sections, mostly because of ReDesigner’s limitations when it comes to mechanisms such as platforms directional movement, gendoors/killdoors which can’t be both applied to an object, different obstacles/enemy size and behaviour, etc. As a result, a few things are a bit messy sadly, but it’s functional and fun enough, at least.
Section 1 in particular is way more fun and dynamic in Rayman ReDesigner despite a few imperfections such as clouds not bouncing you as high or Flame enemies not having their special attacks! But I really like how it plays, it’s really the kind of levels which get way better when breaking free from the Game Boy’s gameplay limitations!

Also, I’m not going to say what it is now, but I’ve also started working on something else related to this project in some way... and I’m quite liking how it’s turning out so far! :hehe:

I would go for the second one, it seems more natural to me.
Btw I should try your skin in your next level, it perfectly fits the GBA style 8)

Finally got around to playing Rainy Forest, very nice!
I really liked the vine borders in the last level, reminded me of Legends/Adventures' beanstalk levels. I always felt Rainy Forest was a bit too easy/short/linear though, but maybe that's just me.

I'd suggest using the second skin as well, the first one looks really rough and unpolished compared to it.

Well, sounds like the second skin will be the definitive one! More opinions are still welcome, tho! For anyone who wants to try the skin already, it’s available in the download of Rainy Forest’s post and its folder is named "GBC ReReDesigned". :mryellow:
Thanks for all the feedback! :)

Don’t you mean GBC? GBA is quite a lot more "Advanced" console. :hap:

Glad you liked it! And yeah, Rainy Forest is a bit too simple, the only real obstacle is the water everywhere... But this shall be "fixed" when the time comes... :bad:

Edit: Found plenty of VERY interesting things in the data.win file once again... Working on it. 👀

Re: Rayman ReDesigner

Aaand... I found the secret already! I’m officially the Ryemanni fangame easter egg hunter! :noel:
And it’s an extremely interesting and useful one, as it gives you access to eight hidden objects in the editor, so consider this discovery as the release of a new update!
:hap:

I’ve also released a "level" featuring all these secrets so you can freely use them for your own creations! https://raydistributor.com/content/RAY-FJ8X-50

As explained in the video, go to the editor, then press the "Home" key on your keyboard and a text box will appear to ask you, "What you got, buddy?" Then, enter "rdmrt" (respect the lower case and don’t include the quotation marks). If you’re successful, you’ll hear the achievement unlocked sound from Redemption and eight new secrets objects will appear in your level in a circle shape around your mouse cursor! These are as follows:

-Noseless Rayman. Yes, the spooky noseless monster himself!... Or his head at the very least... In gameplay, when you’re close enough, the head will chase you around and it will instantly kill you if it touches you by making you fall like an instakill pit. They also make sound effects when appearing and when catching you!

-Weird Mushroom. A purple hallucinogenic mushroom. "Eating" it will heavily distort your sight (as if you were on "drugs") and play a messed-up version of the "Yeah!" music.

-Running Lightning. The running bolt from Reign of Terror returns as an actual entity! Like the original, it will sprint around very fast, damaging you on contact and exploding into four bolts once you hit it.

-Globox. Just an animated sprite of Globox from the GBA games doing the Rain Dance! It doesn’t do anything else, but has sound effects.

-Rayman 2 for PS1. Just a very crusty JPEG of Rayman’s PS1 cover! If you pick it up, it will play the sound of picking up a Lum and the screen will turn extremely pixelated "crusty"! :bad:

-Murfy. Murfy from Rayman 3/Raving Rabbids GBA! He’s animated but doesn’t do anything. However, if you punch him... he will say, "See you in Rayman 4!"

-Cheese. A sprite of a piece of cheese from an edutainment game. Eating it will play the good old "NNN as in Cheese!" line! :3

-Rabbid Cushion. A Whoopee Cushion redrawn to be reminding of a Rabbid. Instead of farts, it will play their infamous scream!

These hilarious items don’t become available in the editor’s menu, sadly... but you can spawn them again by entering the code or copy paste them as many times as you want and they can all be assigned to Gendoors/Killdoors and some of them (Running Lightnings and Murfy) can be flipped!
Funnily enough, the mushroom and its effects are referred to as "drug" in the data.win file, while Rayman 2's effect (similar to the newly discovered "PSX" cheat code from Rayman 3) is referred to with one of Ryemanni's favourite words... "crust"! :noelnoir:
The code is apparently the main initials of Rayman: The Dark Magician’s Reign of Terror, and finding it really wasn’t easy! It’s clearly not as "easy" to guess as "TOBEYOND" and "REDESIGN" were in Redemption! :oops2:
Everything was added in version 1.3.3! And now that it has been found, everyone can use these! The existence of those things is also a good sign for modding as it’ll probably be possible to implement similar animated things with fun effects in the future!

Short answer is: I have way too much to waste. :hap:
Long answer is: I had way too much to waste because I only slept for less than 5 hours to sleep yesterday because of my broken brain, and so, since I was physically unable to be productive, I’ve spent that time into torturing my brain to figure out a silly secret in a video game... Anyway, I was already "wasting" enough time on making levels for this game, so why not on this? :noel:

Edit: Just updated the "level". Now it contains visual examples to help you spawn the objects, a readme, and the level has two versions:
-The first one is *fully* empty aside from including the secret objects.
-The other is the original but with ten sections containing the secrets, and some extra stuff in the first section.

Edit 2: Just found out the whole easter egg was detailed in the readme file of version 1.3.3 as a way "to see if people would actually read it in its entirety"... Something which doesn’t make sense considering most people like me already read all of it in the previous versions, so there was no reason to do it again! Especially when Ryemanni never updated before the "side content" of the game like his official levels (despite the many mistakes pointed out in Pink Plant Woods)! The funny thing is that I actually took a quick look at the readme when hunting for the secret with the idea it could be hidden in there, but I quickly stopped for the reasons mentioned above... And now I want to die because I wasted my time for nothing when I could have just read two more lines of text which was just right under everyone’s noses! Kill me, please! :hap:
Capture d’écran (14589).png
That aside, I’ve also found out you can turn off the filters of Rayman 2 and of the mushroom by walking into a Curse Cleaner, so these objects won't break your levels as long as you provide a way for your players to quickly get rid of the weird visuals!

Re: Rayman ReDesigner

Post by Mortamon Saturn »

Hi again! Rocky Peaks is here! Four levels, two bonuses, and the World Maps … are you ready to climb such a dangerous cavernous mountain from the good old days of Rayman GBC? :noel:

Image

Download: https://raydistributor.com/content/RAY-VH6P-W6

Finally, you can experience the world with some of the coolest visuals and some of the worst totally best music ever created. :hap:
It was… quite a task to remake this one, and while I’m disappointed by some of the pretty drastic changes I had to make, I’m very satisfied with the overall final result! I hope you’ll be able to enjoy it!
At least the enemies were the perfect opportunity this time around as they are the ones who inspired the Stone Heads and Flame Boys from Redemption and ReDesigner! Speaking of which, pretty funny that the flames are introduced there and not in Fiery Depths…

It’s a very interesting world considering everything it adds to Rayman GBC! The first instakill spikes, the Super Helicopter, two colours for Spiky Balls in the same level (exclusive to the GBC version of Section 4 which features the spiky obstacles from Dark Legacy), diagonal directional collisions, objects tied simultaneously to Gendoors and Killdoors, spawning objects in a bonus level, Gendoors spawned by Gendoors… yes, you read that last one correctly. :hap:
By the way, just like in the Spellbound Forest, the number of the bonus levels is swapped once again (as it is on Ray1Map), but you’ll access and play them just like in the original.
As for the new version differences, I took the same route as Airy Tunes and took more liberties with a few tiles in both the GBC and Pocket PC versions so they can play better, and tried to be more accurate with the two Palm OS versions (which results in a few issues related to some enemies and a "secret trick" in the first section which can allow you to get to the World Map from the very first Exit Sign… Yes, consider that a speedrunning trick :mryellow:). But for the original differences, some are quite impressive! While the GBC, PPC and Palm OS Color versions are barely different (aside from some tiles fixes and improvements from PPC and Palm OS), the Greyscale version chose once again to stay closer to the original GBC game and to add *m a n y* mistakes and changes in the collisions of some levels! Especially the third one which has plenty of messed-up tiles inside its walls! I also like how the mistakes and visual changes make it look like they somewhat tried to actually use the "useless" rock part in the bottom-right part of Section 4! Speaking of which, this portion is only begging to be utilised in some way or another… :bad:
Another great reason to play the Pocket PC version this time is because of how incredibly beautiful it looks! It’s genuinely amazing how stunning it looks in this port! :nostalgic:
The Palm OS Greyscale version, however, accomplished the challenge to be as ugly and inconvenient as possible… This has to be the worst-looking world in this version… no, the ugliest and most impractical world in ALL versions of the game! You can barely even tell apart the ice platforms from the normal ones! So, yeah… it’s best not to play it… :beurk:

Finally, about the music… You know, this time, I can only recommend taking away the files from their folder and just to listen to the much better and very fitting Blue Mountains and Caves of Skops music from the original Rayman (speaking of which, it’s quite interesting how Rocky Peaks is clearly inspired by both of these worlds while Fiery Depths end up being more an original world greatly expanding on the lava part from Skops’ boss fight rather than remaking his world)…
Rocky Peaks’ music is so awful and painful for the ears that I had to lower the volume of the tracks more than I usually do (especially the PPC track despite the fact it should sound better as it doesn’t have the "intense" part of the GBC music, but the "beeps and boops" on the entire music are just a torture…) because it gave me headaches within seconds! It’s really this bad! It’s even more insulting when this music is supposed to be adapted from Whale Bay from Rayman 2, one of the calmest and most atmospheric tracks in the entire series…

Anyway, sorry if I’ve been quite slow, once again! But there are good reasons for that, one of which is related to this project! I’ve completely remade the entire skin and it’s now close to a definitive version! There are still a few weird frames in some animations, but aside from that it looks way more expressive and detailed while remaining close enough to GBC Rayman! The usual variations (Blue, Dark and Greyscale Rayman) have also been brought back with these improvements and Dark Rayman now has no pupils (although he’s still missing his angry look)!
The skin made by ShinyRaichu94 is still recommended if you prefer something closer to the original!

Here are the meaningless lite versions as usual! :noel:
GBC - Rocky Peaks.zip
(1.73 MiB) Downloaded 121 times
PPC - Rocky Peaks.zip
(2.95 MiB) Downloaded 120 times
Note: I had to remove the Map and Bonus graphics from the PPC version so the file size can be small enough to be allowed on the RPC. You’ll have to download a another PPC bundle from the other levels to get these files. You also to make the graphics of all versions twice as big so they can fit ReDesigner.
PalmOS Color - Rocky Peaks.zip
(2.58 MiB) Downloaded 125 times
PalmOS Greyscale - Rocky Peaks.zip
(1.19 MiB) Downloaded 114 times

Have fun! :)
I’m gonna take a short break from the project to give more focus on original levels (especially one which I really need to update…), but Ancient Forest should come pretty early in June if everything goes right!
