I can't believe there was a Rayman TV show announcement in 2022 :D

This reminds me that we will need to update and rename the RayWiki article for this, but we might want to wait for an official English name before we take care of the latter.

Has anyone heard anything about the show since it’s announcement? I was excited that Rayman had a second chance at a cartoon but I haven’t heard anything about it in the last couple years.

I apparently need to learn to read the whole thread before I ask dumb questions huh?

There hasn't been any news since that second update earlier this year though.

Yeah but I hadn’t heard about the second update. Only the original announcement. And if I had read this thread thoroughly I wouldn’t have asked if anything had come up since that original announcement because I would have known that you guys picked up on the update while I was being clueless.

I think the first images came from FuturHebdo and Sparknews.

Edit: I mean, the first images showing Rayman; the first promotional image was shown in 2019.

Okay, well thanks. So, this was recent. It wasn't when the fan base first heard about the TV show? Anyways, I don't know if this will affect Rayman. I wonder if it will be one of those things that just comes and goes or whatever is the case. :?:

Is it time to speculate about the cancellation of the series at this point?

It is intriguing that the domain "http://www.raymantv.com/" is still active, despite the lull after the announcement and the mixed reaction to it.

This is what I said after almost two years of nothing happening since the original announcement, and we eventually heard about it again six months later, so I really don't know what to expect about this anymore. All I know for sure is that I couldn't care less. :P

Knowing Ubisoft's woes, I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled this. It's a bit ironic that there's nothing about Rayman, yet they still remember him on TikTok.
And regarding to the TV show... Tbh, I wasn't very interested on this, but that's my personal opinion, of course.

Thanks Elite! Some of it is probably worth documenting on the wiki. Here's the thread in a format that's easier to read:
Rayman Universe wrote:So, it all started back in February 2019, when Emmanuelle Leleu and Julien Hazebrouck went to Ubisoft Film & Television, offering them their own concept for the animated series based on Rayman franchise.

Image

The IP holder gave the project the green light, after which hard work began. Emmanuelle Leleu started creating designs for the characters and writing the script, while Julien Hazebrouck worked on creating a 3D environment.

The project also involved people from the animation studio Eddy (in particular Angélique Corli, Pierrot Jacquet, Yannick Ctg), responsible for the cinematics of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and the Assassin's Creed series, with whom the duo had already worked in 2014.

Also, many of them worked on the series Rabbids Invasion and its full-length special Rabbids Invasion Special: Mission to Mars.

On October 10 of the same year, the first public announcement of the series, which at that time had not yet received its name, took place. Concept art by Gautier Alfirevic was demonstrated with new cartoon characters inspired by the Incrediballs from Rayman Adventures.

Image

New details were not long in coming, because the very next day Ubisoft presented the project at the Mipcom Entertainment Content Market conference in Cannes, dedicated to demonstrations of future novelties from the world of cinema and animation.

Image

The studio shared the following information: the series will be 3D, it will also be designed for an audience of 6 to 10 years (which is okay for film adaptations of such kind of franchises), and the total running time of the first season will be 52 episodes of 11 minutes.

Also in the event photo, you can notice panels, the left of which uses the background of an advertising Rayman Legends screenshot, while the right one is original and presumably from the upcoming Rayman series.

Image

In addition, the French TV channel BFM Business soon released a report from the same event, where Helene Juguet, managing director of Ubisoft Film & Television, gave an interview, calling the series "part of Rayman world".

https://twitter.com/RUniverseVK/status/ ... 3143401473

In 2020, for obvious reasons, there was nothing, but in March 2021 Emmanuel Lele and Julien Azebrook, the project managers, leave Ubisoft. Some Eddy employees leave with them after a while.

It is still not clear what happened, however, despite this, on the authors' websites, "the upcoming Rayman series" is still present in the list of projects being developed.

A year later, on March 31, 2022, pictures from the L'écran D'après event dedicated to projects from creative organizations on the topic of environmental protection appear on Twitter, revealing the redesign of new characters and Rayman, presenting him as a child.

Image

The background for the concept art on the left side was again taken from the same Rayman Legends screenshot, but on the right side is original.
The working title of the series was also announced - "Rayman & les Moldies" (in English - "Rayman and The Moldies").

The pictures published online by FuturHebdo and Sparknews are the only material that people got, and this is due to the fact that the concept art was potentially not designed for public eyes.

If you look at the official record of the event on YouTube, you will find that there are no mentions of the series in it. And the thing is that the series was announced not in the category of announcements, but in the category of pitches, which was hidden from the public.

Sounds confusing? That's right, the series, which had been in development for 3 years at that time, was again at the pitching stage. However, we draw your attention to the fact that pitching implies a search not only for financing, but also for distribution.

So here is our theory: in 2021 those employees left not because the project is dead, but because their part of the work was completed. Now Ubisoft was searching for a company interested in distributing the future series, completing the finishing touches on it.

In addition, there are people who claim that Hoho Revon, who represented the project, also stated there that the premiere of the first season is scheduled for the first half of 2023, however, either the information is unreliable, or the release was postponed.

Meanwhile, on May 30 of the same year, Emmanuelle Leleu published the following 2 sets of concept art on Behance under the title "Cute and Weird Designs", clearly related to the upcoming series.

Image
Image

In these designs, the style of another animated series is especially strongly felt - "The Amazing World of Gambol", and there is nothing unusual here, since the duo also has experience working on designs for characters for it.

At the end, we advise you to be patient and not draw conclusions about the product ahead of time. Please note that the idea of such an unusual project was a simple initiative of a creative duo, and not something necessary for the company, as it seemed to many at first.

After all, behind the shoulders of the people who works on the future series, there are a large number of projects that have attracted attention and established their authors as professionals in their field.

Ubisoft should be given credit for the creative freedom provided, which can be traced in a unique style, very characteristic of its authors. Do not forget that Rayman creators often had to experiment, and this is one of them, which is in the hands of experienced people.
