General Ubisoft thread
I found an interessting article about Ubisoft Montpellier in general.
But it has very little do with Rayman or BGE.
Also Ancel is just a little mentioned.
Anyway, for some of you it might be interessting:

Re: Ubisoft Montpellier
Can this thread be used to talk about Ubisoft in general? (it may have to be moved to the Off-Topic section, though).
Anyway, this is old news, but I wanted to mention the "Great Exodus":

Re: Ubisoft Montpellier
Yes. We should, as a community, talk about this. Because it is very concerning what's happening at Ubisoft and we should not support that.
Ubisoft is not the company we used to love. A lot of employees have left because of the decisions (not firing assaulters, no equal pay, NFT's, micro-transactions, games as a service, open worlds that are too big and don't engage) from Yves and other higher-ups. With all the news I'm hearing, it's also no wonder Michel Ancel has left Ubisoft (and gaming in general). He has probably spent half of his life with a company that for 50% of his employment just didn't care about his visions anymore and probably treated him like shit as well (which, without going into rumor territory too much, probably also resulted in him being frustrated).
I don't think current Ubisoft is even going to make a new Rayman game. Look at how the company has treated their IP's (especially Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, heck even Assassins Creed hasn't been the same lately). Think about it, IF it ever were to happen it would probably be an open-world games-as-a-service with sub-par platforming and probably a story and world without any impact. And honestly, I wouldn't want to play or get invested in that. Plus the team that made Rayman 3, has probably also left.
Also, personally, as an assault survivor with PTSD it's also very heartbreaking to see what the company has turned into. I personally can't buy Ubisoft games anymore. Because I also know most of the money is going to the higher-ups and assaulters. So I stand with all the (ex-)employees of Ubisoft who are fighting against the issues and I'm hoping it will turn around some day.

Re: General Ubisoft thread
Ubisoft seems to have no intention on making a proper Rayman game so I'd rather the series be put to rest instead of them reusing Legends' assets over and over to make mobile games.

Re: General Ubisoft thread
I read an article that suggested the idea that Microsoft could adquire Ubisoft.
Re: General Ubisoft thread
They might be hit with anti-trust again, if they do. With the recent Activision/Blizzard acquisition, that might make them too big.
Then again, actual monopolies like Google and Facebook have not been hit with anything meaningful, so who knows...

Yes, the current deal is undergoing a lot of scrutiny so I doubt a second one is even possible. I think we can expect some consolidation within smaller players though.dr_st wrote: Sun Feb 20, 2022 9:20 am They might be hit with anti-trust again, if they do. They've mostly achieved their monopoly status through organic growth, they could never reach that size through acquisitions.dr_st wrote: Sun Feb 20, 2022 9:20 am Then again, actual monopolies like Google and Facebook have not been hit with anything meaningful, so who knows...
Re: General Ubisoft thread
Yes and no... The monopoly in the core business has indeed been achieved through organic growth - they were simply very good at what they did. However, what they did later was to leverage their power in one field to achieve domination in another. For instance - Google acquiring Youtube and Waze gave them tremendous power in video hosting and navigation platforms. Facebook acquiring Instagram and Whatsapp did a similar thing, in other fields.Hunchman801 wrote: Sun Feb 20, 2022 12:18 pm They've mostly achieved their monopoly status through organic growth, they could never reach that size through acquisitions.
This gives them both power over competitors - a competing video platform is at an inherent huge disadvantage compared to Youtube, because it doesn't have the same tight integration with other Google services, nor the ability to self-promote from within (tweaking the search, internal advertising, etc.), and power over users - if Google or Facebook don't like you - you can be shut off their services everywhere. And that is before we get into the subject of web hosting - the big business and big power.
I recall Microsoft was hit with anti-trust simply for shipping their own browser with their own OS. Acquisitions weren't involved in that case.

Funny, I had a dream to that effect over a decade ago, although it might have been the other way round…Elite Piranha wrote: Sat Feb 19, 2022 5:07 am I read an article that suggested the idea that Microsoft could adquire Ubisoft.

Re: General Ubisoft thread
That's true, I was referring to horizontal acquisitions only. Vertical acquisitions are much more difficult to analyze with regard to antitrust analysis, and I must say I often find such cases dreadfully far-fetched when I hear about them, but hey, it's not exactly my field of expertise!dr_st wrote: Sun Feb 20, 2022 12:40 pm Yes and no... I wish Ubisoft would open source the Ubi Art engine like Michel Ancel wanted.

This must be referring to Rayman's Incrediballs Dodge, the game featuring Incrediballs on Ubisoft Nano.Elite Piranha wrote: Wed May 18, 2022 2:55 am I wonder if this is worth mentioning in the wiki:

Re: General Ubisoft thread
So in other news, Ubisoft has set a date for appearing in Gamescom:
https://twitter.com/Ubisoft/status/1541 ... Xyq8a0nDnQ
Great time to either be disappointed with the results, laugh at Ubisoft while slandering them, or pretending to be disappointed while not actually caring.
I'm probably going to do the latter 2 tbh.

Yeah, well, it's okay to know when it is. Anyways, I saw a Gamexplain video about a leak for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope of the release date of and a new character was leaked. It was
