20 years of Rayman 3

Post by poberteii »

It was a normal day until I was googling for French media and found that as of this hour and minute, Rayman 3 is now 20 years old.....
When I bought the game for the first time, it was only a 6 year old game... I feel old!!!! :pfff:

Yes yes! I had marked it on my calendar after finding that fact out after deciding to replay/finish some old games from my childhood last month, starting with Rayman 3! I believe I started playing it when it was ~4 years old, it was one of my earliest games alongside Kingdom Hearts, The (original) Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon Red! What's funny is that I got around 90% of the way through it before getting stuck somehow, so it wasn't until this year I finally beat it alongside some friends watching me!

I had 3 March in my head, but maybe that was just in America… Anyway, this is a fine milestone indeed! :D

Woah, hard to believe we've been waiting for Rayman 4 for 20 years! :oops2:

But more seriously, happy birthday Rayman 3. You have provided 20 years of fun, and may you provide many more.

There are so many different dates with the various platforms and countries that it's easy to get confused! I just picked the first one for the contest.

I do remember having to wait a month for the game to come out on PC, though!

3 March is easy to remember though because it's 03/03/03 :hap: That's probably why it stuck in my head!

It's crazy how Rayman 3 still has a great gameplay after 20 years. It's just a perfect example of why aren't graphics all that matters.

It's true that it still feels great today. I've noticed anyway that whenever I replay an old game, the graphics hurt for a bit but quickly enough I get used to them and don't even think about it anymore, even for really blocky, early 3D games.

Rayman 2 and 3 have so many HD texture packs that the graphics don't have to hurt at all, except maybe in the prerendered cutscenes :hap:

It's been far too long since I've played Rayman 3. Maybe at Easter…

The graphics of Rayman 2 on PS1 are definitely inferior to the other versions. Even so, I think it's unfair that some people label it as "bad" just because of that aspect. In the end, it has its charisma and there are some unique details which are fine.

It's crazy how much time has passed, I still remember the day I saw the game in the shelves of a store thinking: "Oh, look, there is a new Rayman", and me reading the manual while waiting for the installation to finish.

Oh yeah, and sometimes you had to switch between them during the game! Interesting times...

Agreed, it even features some pretty neat additional content.

I remember the same with Rayman 2, but that's mostly because I didn't have a computer powerful enough to run it for a while and all I had was the manual.

Did Rayman3 have an option not to install the game in full? I don't remember.

I don't remember either, I just remember a black screen coming up at certain level transitions asking me to switch from CD2 to CD3 or vice versa. Probably related to those DRM checksum files they loved so much...
