I know that making a second post shortly after the first one is strongly discouraged. However, if a considerable amount of time has passed (for example a month) you're allowed to bump the topic (specially if you have something new to add).

What Elite said! It's definitely tolerated when needed but in general it's best to either edit your posts or wait for someone else to reply. :D

Good grief, this place is still around? It just arbitrarily popped into my head recently when I watched a Rayman 3 vid. Outlasted Raymanzone by a good 19 years or so, lol. Congratulations on twenty.

Looks like we're not going anywhere! Surely, forums have lost a lot of steam over the past decade, but given this context, I think we're doing pretty well. After all, so many websites have already closed theirs, but ours are still reasonably active and home to a dedicated bunch of regulars.

Anyway, hope you're doing well, Block! It's always nice to see old timers pop by, especially when you're reminded of the very early days of this place, or even, the days before it even existed.

Wow, I hadn't seen that article you linked! I can't help but echo the sentiment, especially since I've never touched Discord :(

I have a similar opinion as you guys have regarding to the forums. Discord, Twitter or different alternatives are simply a different way of communication between other people (probably faster, as the article mentions), but I have the feeling that you could do similar things in a forum (or maybe I find it that way as I'm used to them).

Also, I agree this forum is a perfect example when talking about an active community or saving information related to a topic. How many information from the Rayman games would be lost without the forum? It's probably the main reason of why the Rayman community is still that active in 2023.

Yes just the forum format itself is a blast from the past. I'm so used to the likes of Discord now!

It's definitely interesting to reminisce about those days, about chasing the high score for Gamecube Rayman 3 with JonaNL (also playing multiplayer Minesweeper and that hexagon game on MSN Messenger with him, lol) and a few others I really can't remember, the "drama" on the Raymanzone forums, the founding of this place as an alternative, and finally RZ's ultimate downfall.

It's really great to see that some folks from my past are still active in the community to this day, even if I moved on from Rayman in general a long time ago. Hope you, and any old-timers still kicking around, are living to the fullest.

Funny, I just never got used to Discord as a main means of communication (or any other chat platform, for that matter). Surely, it's immensely more practical than forums for simple, real-time conversions, and its handling of media files is as modern as can be, but for everything else, I find it an absolute pain in the ass.

Got over a couple hundred messages to catch up with? Sure, just tap that button an indeterminate amount of times until you eventually get to where you left off, but careful, we'll randomly take you back to the bottom of the conversation on a regular basis, except that now, you'll have to scroll back up manually and sift through those hundreds of messages in reverse order to find where you were. Yeah, only for us to take you back to the bottom again. :fou:

Search is an equally painful experience. How do you even get back to the search results when you've exited the preview because you needed to read more messages? And how the hell do you deal with large amounts of results, when you have to click next as many times as there are pages? Don't click too fast though, or you'll get a server error and have to start from scratch again. :fou2:

Granted, Discord is designed for simple, real-time conversions, but people use it for everything now, which comes at a huge cost for browsability and history. Not to mention that, as with every proprietary platform, all of that will be lost one day. I guess that documenting and archiving is now out of fashion, and that instant gratification is the norm today, in line with the evolution of social media over the past decade and a half. :hap:

You can do this in "User Control Panel > Profile > Edit signature" or use this link which will take you there directly. :)

It is as annoying as you say. It's nice and convenient, however I do hate that it's killed forums. I very much prefer the way of the forum. It's just nice to be able to voice call. However you just gave me an idea. A forum with the voice chat functionality. Anyway, I'm glad to see Rayman PC sticking around as always. It's truly nostalgic for me. In other forums, they are a ghost town.

I know that past performance is not indicative of future results, but I've been here for twenty years so why not a few more decades? :hap: And anyway, I would never let the site die, I'd make sure it is properly taken over.

To be honest it felt like you may have used MSN/Windows Live messenger more back in the day than you did Discord, but part of that could just be due to you not having as much free time these days anyway. Which instant messaging has existed for a very long time at this point. Personally I don't believe that's what helped killed off forums, not alone. I think part of it is just the growth of smart phones where more people have internet access in their pockets and forms of social media or instant messaging services make it easier for them to use on their phones than using a full forum.

That's going to be my theory anyway on that part.

Discord does have so called "forum" categories now, but they're no different than threads that disappear and are kinda horrible to use and keep track of.

Discord has its place, it's great for real-time conversations like you said, group chats with friends, it's handy for various smaller groups, especially team servers. Like Splatoon teams have their own server. Even tournament servers on there. The biggest thing is voice calls and streaming since I can easily stream a game to my friends. Neo and I for example use this feature a lot. This simply just doesn't exist on forums.

Though I do remember AudioKarma used to having an integrated AK Chat where people would join and have a real-time conversation on the forum chat box.

Fortunately it cannot kill off all forums, because you still have some very dedicated communities like this one, it may not be as widespread as it once was when everyone and their pet could run a freely hosted forum.

This place is like your child Hunch, I don't see you ever letting it go easily for any reason. I could see you passing it onto someone you trust most with it, but I have a feeling you'll baby this place until the very end of time.

It's kind of funny to put it like your child, because of how much care you put into this place, and you always aimed for quality over quantity. This place will always remain special to me as well, especially since I did years of moderation here before, both as a regular mod, global mod, and administrator like Plum is today. To also have a helping hand at aiding you with styling was a rewarding experience.

I'm glad to be of help once again when it comes to aiding you with some CSS styling, and for anyone reading this don't ask what I'm working on. It's a secret.

So thank you for keeping this place alive Hunchman, I certainly appreciate you and the work you put into this community. :hap:

Thanks for the kind words, Hoodcom! Indeed, it's not Discord alone that killed forums, and the switch to mobile is a huge factor. It doesn't help that forums are still so unadapted to mobile...
