In response to what you asked me earlier, I admit that you're right, I'd actually rather forget Tily, the nymphs, not my favorite magical creatures, but their designs are alright. I meant to say the princesses in my first comment. I just don't know what it is that makes me not like any other princess aside from Barbara....

Well, perhaps it's the fact that there are so many (arguably-)meaningless skins of Rayman and Globox in the game, so one is predisposed to also dislike the (arguably-)meaningless skins of Barbara too? I feel like the princesses have more meaning than the other skins since you actually "rescue" them as part of the "story", but then… What story?

The plaid clothing and the Pictish painted face. Also I think some aspects of them are references to Braveheart, but I'm not familiar with that film myself so I couldn't be sure

Maybe it was a reference to braveheart because the movie released around the same time as R1 and figured that’d be cool? Nah most likely they just needed another idea for a warrior
