I think this reason is they are actually oval, but the transparancy was fricked up.
That's a good theory. He looks like he was drawn by Jhonen Vasquez with those square pupils haha. You know, a friend of mine pointed out a similar error that actually made it into Rayman 3 and now I can never unsee it. The cutscene where the Hoodlum Headquarters gets blown up has Rayman with this white square on his forhead.
He's also using messed up Rayman 2 textures. Look at the shoes and hoodie! This could possibly be a leftover from the E3 2002 cutscene, which is still using the R2 design.
The fact that no one noticed this baffles me!

The plot thickens! I never even noticed his shoes or hoodie since the white squares distracted me. This must have been spliced in with one of the animations where they still used the R2 model? Good eye, Lyn!

Should have probably checked to see if someone had already pointed this out before editing the post
It's weird that it only affects this cutscene, maybe since it was so short, and the lighting mostly obscured it, maybe they just thought no one would notice.
I definitely never noticed it until my friend pointed it out earlier this year and I've played r3 countless times, so it probably doesn't matter too much thankfully! A really cool peek at production though, heehee
Oh no problem!
I found this gif somewhere on Discord, I have just edited a few frames because the second half is the same animation but played in reverse and it looked like his hair was bouncing out of nowhere
Yeah I do, it's basically the most advanced software for drawing and image editing!
Of course it is not perfect, like for example each version has its own issues and it could crash sometimes but there's not much you can do about it

Since I was young I used Photoshop, I do not know why but learning almost everything all by myself was worth it!
