If I had been aware of it, I would not have done that. I've always loved maps, and Rayman lore!

Only the first edition boxed retail copies had it.PluMGMK wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 10:25 amThat's funny, I don't ever remember a map coming in my copy…I suppose it's possible I missed it

I don't think my copy had a map either tbh.PluMGMK wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 10:25 am That's funny, I don't ever remember a map coming in my copy…I suppose it's possible I missed it

Hmmm, I'm tempted to say either R2 Forever or Rayman DS. Decisions, decisions...
Same! I love looking at maps, maybe someone can bring up a copy on here and we can all see it!PluMGMK wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 10:27 am If I had been aware of it, I would not have done that. I've always loved maps, and Rayman lore!

Maybe there's a small possibility that we can check the map on its webpage (using the Wayback Machine, of course) from 20 years ago.

Isn't this the one we're talking about?

Re: What do you think is the worst version of Rayman 2?
I'd still pick the DS port no matter what as the worst (well, iOS should be worst, but I can't really judge something I've never played
).
Rayman 2 Forever might be boring, but at least it's not painful! My fingers will never forgive this abomination... Even trying the 3DS stick with it through backwards compatibility didn't fix this torture!
And to give Rayman 2 GBC some credit, at least it was a "refreshing" Rayman 2 version (even as a lazy uninspired sequel to R1 GBC), rather than yet another recycled port but with terrible controls. As if we didn't play the original Rayman 2 like 10 times by that point!
Sure DS was technically the first true portable Rayman 2 and overall it's still the great Rayman game that it was in a way... but that doesn't make it fun when your fingers feel like they're bleeding by the end of it.
And since 3D came out with better controls and graphics, it made it completely obsolete... even if Rayman 3D is the most hilarious broken mess in the Rayman series.

I like your thoughts on that. I played the iOS version on iPhone4 and my fingers made the controls pretty hard to use. This became a problem especially at the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire.

Nah man iOS takes me back to when demos and high effort games were commonplace on mobile

Well it was certainly ‘refreshing’. Nothing like playing a regular level and reaching the spiral door, then out of nowhere I get a random mask.Rayman Saturn wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 7:46 pm Rayman 2 Forever might be boring, but at least it's not painful! Re: What do you think is the worst version of Rayman 2?
Rayman DS is kinda objectively the worst version, unless you dislike Revo or the PS1 version's changes. The thing with RDS is that, at the time, it was mindblowing to see a full home console 3D platformer on a handheld for the same reason as SM64DS, except Rayman 2 was more visually impressive. I'm sure they could've done a better job in hindsight, but at the time I wasn't really thinking about that.
Not counting R2 Forever here because it's a completely different game.

Re: What do you think is the worst version of Rayman 2?
The thing is, it was probably only made to flex the capabilities of the DS. It also was R2s first ever handheld port (barring R2 forever), but in perspective nowadays it’s not very good

Re: What do you think is the worst version of Rayman 2?
I think it was more opportunism from Ubisoft's part as they did that with nearly every new platform (which got us a ton of ports/remakes/demakes/spin-offs for many Rayman games, sometimes being very hastily thrown together like Rayman 3D for the 3DS' release). It would be more Nintendo themselves that would care about flexing their system (as they kind of did with SM64DS).
But I agree, it had the novelty of being the first and only true handheld port of Rayman 2 back then, and that feel of novelty certainly wore off since that time...
It looks pretty stunning for a DS game at least!... Too bad that it sounds stunning in a completely different way in Europe.

Wait, what do you mean by a completely different way in Europe? Does the European version of RDS sound different than the US version?Rayman Saturn wrote: Thu Dec 07, 2023 8:38 pm But I agree, it had the novelty of being the first and only true handheld port of Rayman 2 back then, and that feel of novelty certainly wore off since that time...

Re: What do you think is the worst version of Rayman 2?
I've been constantly told that it has a worse sound quality... which is quite an achievement considering the DS compression I'm already used to! So yeah, hearing it "stuns you in a completely different way" rather than positively like the graphicsThe Jonster wrote: Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:29 pmWait, what do you mean by a completely different way in Europe? Do you not remember the conversation we had about that on Record Day? I've never gone and listened to it… It's not really on my priority list given what I've heard

I doubt this is on anyone's priority listPluMGMK wrote: Sat Dec 09, 2023 1:57 pm Do you not remember the conversation we had about that on Record Day? I've never gone and listened to it… It's not really on my priority list given what I've heard![]()
(well except masochists... but hey, no kink shaming
Speaking of forgetting conversations, I missed that one about R2 Forever! The Jonster wrote: Sat Dec 02, 2023 1:11 am Well it was certainly ‘refreshing’. Nothing like playing a regular level and reaching the spiral door, then out of nowhere I get a random mask.![]()
I loved how random that stupid game was! Like you get to Razorbeard in The Tomb of the Ancients (
And then the game just ends there... in the Tomb of the Ancients... And there isn't even a bonus world like Dark Legacy or Ubi Cliff...
Peak Rayman adaptation and sequel right here.
That moment when the "Rayman 3" GBA game is a far more accurate Game Boy Rayman 2 than the game called "Rayman 2 Forever"... also not to be confused as the sequel to the Rayman Forever PC bundle.

Re: What do you think is the worst version of Rayman 2?
Maybe Rayman 2 Forever could be considered a sequel to Rayman Forever in that the former's quality parallels that of many of the 40 fanmade levels exclusive to the latter
