Would you pay more taxes if it meant receiving a pension when you retire?

Yes, the state should guarantee a pension for its citizens.

Yes, but a mixed model would be more efficient (50% state + 50% private pension plan, for example).

No, the state does not have to manage my money; I prefer to have it myself and opt, for example, for a private pension plan.

Since we're doing Christmas movies, why don't we do the Christmas specials? (Rudolph, Frosty, etc.)

DaveRattlehead wrote: Tue Dec 05, 2023 11:14 pm Yes, of course. We can include 4 popular ones and an alternative option so people have a variety to choose from. Thinking quickly, I've come up with Home Alone, The Grinch, A Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life, Gremlins... and even Die Hard, although that's also a matter of debate. In fact, the survey could even ask if people consider Die Hard a Christmas movie
I suppose you could even do multiple choice for this poll if someone has more than one favorite movie. Worst case "Other" could be a choice and someone could always write in what they chose "Other" for if they wanted, considering there's so many choices out there.

Home Alone is certainly a classic. I want to watch that again now.

So for this one as of now, we have
  • Home Alone
  • The Grinch
  • A Christmas Carol
  • It's a Wonderful Life
  • Gremlins
  • Die Hard(?)
The only other one I can think of is Elf, the one with Will Ferrell. I thought it was funny as a kid.

I guess we can have a poll with many choices, and "Other" as suggested. Would anyone have any more suggestions to add?

Ho ho ho! Santa certainly approves of this, he does indeed! We cannot let the Grinch steal Christmas, after all! :noel:

Well here's the results to this one, from 3 years ago, anyway... :fou:

Let's hope I can keep it on track in future. :oops2:

Anyway, the new one is up. I tried to add plenty of options, and even allowed multiple choice (up to three) with an option of "Other", where people can specify it in the thread if they wish. :noel:

Its a tradition of mine to watch the Polar Express every December, and the movie itself is pretty good, which is why its my favorite.

Home Alone is a must-watch in the Christmas genre, so without a doubt, it's one of my choices. I've also chosen A Christmas Carol. It probably isn't as funny as some other options, but it's a classic that captures the Christmas essence very well. Finally, I'm going to pick the most surprising option in the poll, which is Die Hard, one of the best action movies from the '80s featuring Bruce Willis :)

I went with Home Alone, Elf, and Gremlins, mostly because those are the first ones that come to mind when I look at the list. Home Alone is a timeless classic, I loved watching this as a kid and I don't know how many times I watched that VHS of the first movie, I clearly lost count. :P

Elf is one that my uncle brought me to see in the cinema, and to me that was a fun day out, so I remember that pretty well. Plus I thought it was pretty funny in some scenes when he was overreacting and screaming "SANTA!" for example.

Gremlins I remember watching with my dad on TV, and I just thought it was so funny for some reason. I remember us all laughing when the Gremlins tampered with the stair lift and the woman flew out the window.

Yeah these movies were good, but I'm sure everything on the list is pretty amazing. :hap: :noel:

I have mixed feelings about Polar Express... It seems really weird to me. I remember many people attributing that general dislike of Polar Express to the uncanny valley

I made the exact same choice! They're all great movies, and while I liked Gremlins too, it comes in fourth position. I don't think I've seen any of the others, though: maybe the results of this poll will serve as a recommendation. :hap:

Yeah, I liked Gremlins too, but for whatever reason it never felt as impactful for Christmas for me as Home Alone has. And I'm counting Home Alone 1 and 2 with this.

I wonder if I can get my friends to watch Home Alone and Grinch (The one with Jim Carrey) again.

Wow, I never thought of why I found the movie so uncomfortable. But I think it’s more a similar effect to the uncanny valley

So, it seems we have a winner, right? :)

We had some interesting ideas before running the Christmas poll. Just a reminder of them: genetically modified food, euthanasia, vegan/non vegan, recycling, smoking, social media.
Which one would you like to see?

Home Alone is probably my favourite of the lot I chose so it's nice to see that it won. :noel:

I see there were recent suggestions regarding smoking or how many social media sites one uses. Perhaps one of these works, and I would be interested to see generally how many different social media platforms most people would use frequently.

Is it bad that Polar Express and Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer were the only movies I watched?
I'm now also suddenly thinking of "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"

I do recommend Home Alone whenever you get the chance to watch it, the first two are pretty hilarious to me.
