Rayman Sprites I made while bored.
Rayman 1 GBC is a really fun game, but only having 1 boss is boring, I made up some of my own!
First is the boss of Spellbound Forest, the Big Grub. The chaos has awoken it from it's slumber and now it is angry. You need to punch it in the nose 4 times to defeat it. If you try to jump and punch, it will block your fist. You need to wait until it throws something, then you can bop it in the schnozzle.
The boss of Airy Tunes, the Percussionist, is suffering from a headache thanks to Mr. Dark. Hitting it's bell will really make its ears ring! The boss will follow you around a long stage and swing it's mallet at you. You need to guide the mallet to land on a drum, producing a cloud you can jump on to punch the bell. If it strikes a piano key it produces a sour note instead.
Rainy Forest sees Rayman get ambushed by a giant water snake! It lurks below then dives before lunging to strike! When it sinks, jump to the other platform so you can punch it when it surfaces. Watch out, it will make the piranha start jumping out of the water over time.
Atop the peak of the Stoney Cliffs Rayman encounters the Yeti, who is suffering from a cold, ruining it's regularly kind temperament. The big red nose is the obvious weak spot, but the Yeti will rise out of the way if Rayman jumps. Wait for it to strike the ground, dropping debris and maybe a rock you can stand on for leverage!
Deep in the Ancient Forest lurks a massive spider! Rayman steps into its den and the hunt is on. The spider will crawl around out of reach, dropping fruit to try and hit Rayman. Wait until it drops a plum, then jump up and punch its lights out! Watch out for it's lunging attack! You'll need to duck to avoid getting grabbed and pulled up into the thorns.

Re: Rayman 1 GBC Bosses (If this version had them)
(Had to double post as I ran out of room, sorry!)
At the exit of the Fiery Depths, a giant Scorpion blocks the way! Its armor is immune to your fist. You'll need to dodge the claws until it jumps up to the vantage point to fire its stinger at you, the impact of it's landing will make the spike ball fall down for you to punch into it!
A bonus, Globox now acts as the checkpoint, so you know where the checkpoints actually are!

Oh wow, nice interpretations, very creative!
If we could actually have these implemented in game, it would be fun to try battle them!

I love this, these sprites must've taken some time!
Rayman 1 GBC is my favorite, and I'd love to fight these bosses in game. The end of the various worlds always felt so empty aside from Arcane Forest. Having a checkpoint marker would've been neat too. I wonder what sort of boss Dark Legacy would have?

Mr. Dark Soul of course! Makes sense for the final levels to be the ones where the Final Boss is offed for certain.

Oh yeah, that wispy thing had to run off somewhere. I'd nearly forgotten about that!metalflygon08 wrote: Wed Dec 20, 2023 4:22 amMr. Dark Soul of course! Makes sense for the final levels to be the ones where the Final Boss is offed for certain.

Re: Rayman 1 GBC Bosses (If this version had them)
The final zone of Dark Legacy would be called "Pool of Memories". It would be where Mr. Dark stashed the Heart of the World (You'd need all the Electoons to muster the magic required to get there). The pool reflects the memory of Mr. Dark, who proceeds to...
Merge with the heart to create the True Final Boss "Dark Core: The Ultimate Nightmare".
The core would use powerful magic to do things like raise lava to try and kill Rayman, send out beams of darkness, or bring down meteors, or shape shift to perform nasty attacks! When the core fires its ultimate move, the Dark Storm, it will reveal the Heart of the World for a few seconds after the attack, Rayman needs to punch the Heart to cause damage to the soul infecting it.
After a few hits Phase two starts and the core starts to break reality...
The attack patterns become faster and the Heart doesn't appear for as long. But if Rayman persists, he can cause enough damage for the Hear to overpower Mr. Dark's soul, burning it away with a radiant energy.

I like these characters and you animated them very well!
I would like to have them in the game, also, that Globox is so cute
I wonder what Davide Soliani would think about your work, I know he is very fond of this game because it was the first game he ever developed

Re: Rayman 1 GBC Bosses (If this version had them)
Wow, that's an extremely cool idea! Very good work!
As we found out, there were many enemies removed from the final game, so it would have been a very fitting addition.
The secret final boss was an idea I actually had of a extra scenario where Mr Dark would have faked his death in Arcane Forest and escaped to Dark Legacy to make himself stronger, also expanding the joke scene of the Electoons in a Mr Dark costume with an additional scene where Rayman thinks the Electoons are trying to prank him again only to find out it's not Electoons this time...
Maybe the whole "game reality falling apart" idea would be too much, but it'd be a nice callback to Mr Dark's "original role" as the Virus in Rayman SNES.
If someone ever makes a full-on remake of Rayman GBC (not just a port like my Rayman GBC ReDesigned project), I'd love to see that kind of new content to make it feel like more of a proper adapatation of the original Rayman!

That's actually the only reason I had Phase 2 include the reality falling apart to reveal circuitry and a computer board in the sky lol.Rayman Saturn wrote: Thu Dec 21, 2023 4:41 pm

Speaking of cut enemies, I actually made sprites for them...
I assumed the red thing was a walking drum that when it touched Rayman from the side, would launch him away from it (essentially blocking off areas with low ceilings unless you punch it in the back). The drum itself wouldn't deal damage (unless you land on it from above), but on slippery surfaces the knockback would send you sliding, potentially into harm.
The mask is simple, it walks around and shoots a fireball if Rayman gets close.
The Mosquito would slowly home in on Rayman (like the harmless ones in Rayman 2's Woods of Light) and could be punched away.

Re: Rayman 1 GBC Bosses (If this version had them)
While not strictly GBC Rayman, I did make the GBC Bat enemy as if it was in Rayman 1 (Console).
Borrowed the eyes and pallet of the spider, but made the wings ear and body myself!

Impressive stuff! Not only is it really creative, it's also full of good ideas and you're really good at making this sprites. I hope this inspires fan game developers one day!

Re: Rayman Sprites I made while bored.
If I had the coding chops I'd do so myself lol.
Rayman 1's style (both handheld and console) are so charming to me and fun to work with.
Here's the Ring variant
Why should only the small guys get to see?

Great minds think alike, this was the version I posted a few months back as well...

Those larger versions with eyes make me realize how dumb spiky balls actually look.

When I was younger I always thought they always looked like they were in shock and had a nose and mouth...Hunchman801 wrote: Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:28 pm Those larger versions with eyes make me realize how dumb spiky balls actually look.![]()

Yeah, they kinda look like fish. It didn't make it any less confusing when spiky fish were introduced in Rayman Origins...

Well now I can only see surprised puffer fish.

That's a very interesting interpretation that I will now never be able to unsee.Chacanger wrote: Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:40 pm When I was younger I always thought they always looked like they were in shock and had a nose and mouth...

Things like this always happened to me also, interpreting sprites to be different than intended.
