Re: Challenge of the Month #18 - Summit Beyond the Clouds Scoring Challenge

Post by The Jonster »

I actually meant to do this yesterday, but I was busy and thinking of December's challenge. Here are the rankings for November:

1st: The Jonster: 4 minutes, 1 second  1000 Tings
2nd: Elite Piranha: 5 minutes, 16 seconds  800 Tings
3rd: DaveRattlehead: 7 minutes, 48 seconds  500 Tings

Congratulations to all the participants!

.............

Now, here is the challenge for December: In Summit Beyond the Clouds, there is this area past what looks like a frozen waterfall. It looks like this from the top:

The goal this month is to attain your highest score in this area! Good luck to everyone participating!
I'm probably gonna do so bad at this

Well done to the contenders!

Also hmm, I might consider this one if I get time before I go away for Christmas hehe. I haven't tried scoring in a long time. :P

Oh man, that place with all the suiciding Hoodbooms and Throttle Copters! :ouin: To clarify, it's just the bit after you come out into the open through that door visible in the picture, right?

Yes, that's what I mean, the area after you come out of the tunnel!

So I see the dead-line has been extended to January the 31st... Wise choice :hinhinhin:

I guess you'll only demand that specific part to be recorded, right?

Holy, I almost missed another scoring challenge

I'll try to enter a submission, but this area is the bane of my existence, might take a while to get an attempt that I'm happy with :oops2:

For clarification, if I enter the room with e.g. 1.000 points, and I get hit before I start scoring in this room, that -1 doesn't count, right? Given that the score should be treated as 0 when you enter the room?

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to enter my first submission for this challenge:

Unfortunately I didn't get a high enough launch in the end, which lost me a lot of points... but it's the first attempt where I got everything in one combo, so I'll take it for now. I'll try some more and hopefully be able to submit a better attempt later.

I've also put some explanations in the video description, for people who want to make submissions and don't know much about glitches in R3. You don't have to use these strats of course, but they're very advantageous here.

Edit: Actually, I just had another look at the rules and it says not to use "extreme glitches", would RSJs be considered extreme glitches? If so, I need to do something else :P

That's right, assume your original score would be 0 when you enter the room so any -1 before you start scoring will still just count as 0.

To be honest, it was never made clear to me in the rules what was meant by "extreme glitches" other than IPG, so I'll say no, your submission is fine as is (until you come up with a better score to submit heh)

Really impressive submission, and thanks for including the explanations. It's not gonna be easy to beat that one; in fact, I don't even know if it's possible other than by doing the same, except being lucky enough to get that high enough jump. :fou2:

Oh dear, I've been busy with things lately and haven't had time to do this challenge (and there's only a few days left on top of that)

Recently tried moonjumping for the first time in CF2 a few weeks ago and it was really fun experimenting. I need more practice with the technique though since it took me.....like several tries to actually do it on an emulator of all things (i can only imagine how many times I'd have to restart when doing this with the PC version). :oops2:

Well, just for the sake of participating I recorded this. It is kind of weird that the first submission is from a Hall of Famer, and the second one is from someone that literally has not played the level in ages (and was never good at scoring points to begin with).

Sorry guys, I've become occupied with other things lately, but finally, the results:

1st: Maz: 17,967 points  1000 Tings
2nd: Elite Piranha: 3,986 points  800 Tings

Great job to those who participated (and shame on me for taking too long to participate :P )

So this month's challenge will be in Rayman 1, at Mr. Dark's Dare in the Candy Chateau! The goal of this challenge is to defeat Mr. Dark with the least amount of damage taken.

So here's the breakdown of this challenge:

Challenge of the Month #19: Mr.Dark's low-hit Challenge

- The challenge is only based around the final fight against Mr. Dark in the Candy Chateau, so begin your recording there.
- Record the entire fight up til you at least defeat Mr. Dark.
- Receiving any damage that decreases Rayman's life bar will add 1 to your score.
- Dying will also add 1 to your score, like with any hit.
- Have the lowest amount of points at the end of the month to win!

I'll update the front page later tonight.
.....

Have fun guys!
(hope this doesn't turn out horribly )

SpeedRay 2024 will be running this month, so I think it's fine to extend the COTM deadline to March 31 as well, in case more people want to participate?

Re: Challenge of the Month #20 - Swinging Caves Speed Trophy challenge

Post by The Jonster »

Yes the challenge is now finished. Apologies for the long delay, but here are the final results for the challenge! Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Edit: Oops, somehow I forgot to add that this would be time-based if multiple people had no hits, but never mind. Both entries receive 1000 Tings this time for having the best record of no hits! Congrats! :oops2:

Raypeashooter - 0 hits  1000 Tings
LightGuido2002 - 0 hits  1000 Tings

Anyways.....I have decided on this month's challenge. Let's roll back to a speed challenge this time.

Challenge of the Month #20: Swinging Caves Speed Trophy challenge

- As the name states, this challenge will be based on the speed trophy challenge of Swinging Caves, so make sure you hit the clock at the beginning before recording.
- Your recording should include when you start the challenge to the end when you reach the flag. Simple, right?
- Have one of the fastest runs at the end of the month! As always, you can always submit another recording if you have a better time.

Good luck everyone, and have fun! :mryellow:
