Uncovering information on Rayman 2000 and Rayman Éducation

Post by Tribelle2026 »

A user on Twitter was able to acquire information, concept art and in-engine images from Phoenix Interactive's Rayman 4 and Ubisoft's original version of Rayman Raving Rabbids. Do you think it would be possible to find anything from the cancelled Rayman 2000 and Rayman Éducation games? We know virtually nothing about these games aside from Rayman Éducation's three pieces of concept art and the fact that Rayman: The Animated Series used ideas from Rayman 2000 and there is nothing to really go off of.

It's likely that nothing more ever existed regarding those projects than the concept art we know, so I doubt it! A good starting point, however, would be to better understand what they were about in the first place.

Not sure about Rayman Éducation, but I have the feeling that both Rayman 2000 and Rayman Adventures ended up being Rayman Revolution :idea2:
Of course, this is only a personal hypothesis! Instead of making a sequel based on Rayman 2 with a different map and connected locations, it wouldn't be crazy to think if they decided to focus their efforts on the development of Rayman 3 and, instead of developing Rayman 2000/Adventures, decided to use that philosophy in Rayman Revolution. That would explain the mess they did in Rayman Revolution with that open world...

The wiki does not seem to specify the source of the three pieces of concept art from which "Rayman Éducation" is known, anybody know where they come from?

I also thought Rayman 2000 never got past concept stage and that it was turned into Rayman 3 later on, but it seems there is more to it. Recently there was an interview that told us a bit more about the project: https://www.terredejeux.net/2024/05/pre ... -evil.html
Rayman 2000 remained in the prototype stage. At the time, I had gone back to live in Paris, where my girlfriend was studying. But I continued to work with the Montpellier studio. The idea was to extend the Rayman universe even further in 3D, in particular to create a fantastical city, with lots of buildings to explore. I worked on it for months, and it was really exciting. I admit I can't remember why it was cancelled, but Michel already had new projects in the pipeline.
So it seems this was a real, separate project that was actually being prototyped at some point - and I guess not just concept art. Hopefully we'll see more of it at some point.

It was supposedly on Sanaa Mejjadi's portfolio blog, according to a post in Rare Rayman Pictures when it was first discovered. The site is down though and there doesn't seem to be an archive of it.

I would have loved to see that. Rayman 2's lore has a lot of potential and it's a shame it wasn't fully exploited.

Also, I see that some links in that topic are broken. Are those photos archived somewhere else?

Thanks for sharing, I have updated the wiki article to reflect this.

At least she appears to still be professionally active, so she could be contacted if need be.

Which ones are you referring to? I suppose they're the ones in the wiki article anyway.

I've just sent you a PM indicating the dead links. If the photos are already in the wiki, perfect :).

Have you tried running them through archive.org? Normally, all missing images inserted into [img] tags were replaced with their archived versions a few years ago where applicable, but links to other pages cannot be dealt with automatically.
