I've only watched the original Matrix trilogy. I've heard from some people that they liked it the 4th one, while others are like: "this movie is objetively bad, end of the discussion".

Aside form the pop culture references, I liked the Robots (2005) movie when I watched it as an adult.

Also, I recently watched Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

I finally managed to watch Dr. No (1962), and it was pretty good. It was cool to see where 007 started. Then again, I'm kind of a sucker for older films. Newer films just seem bland...

(Though I'd really like to see the newer Super Mario Movie, it looks amazing. And I mean, at least it wasn't the Sonic movie. I wanted to see the Sonic movie before it was changed since I didn't mind Sonic's design & I was just happy he was getting SOMETHING, but I doubt that'll ever happen so all I've got is a trailer & some promo stuff.)

Other than Dr. No, I don't think...Oh wait! I watched Mortal Kombat (1995) on Mortal Kombat Day! That was epic, and even though I main Johnny Cage and was probably only there for him, all the fight scenes were flawless. What an awesome movie.

(Also with Mattel making a bunch of random toy movies, I was hoping Mighty Max would get some time to shine, BUT OF COURSE Polly Pocket's getting a movie. Ughhh.)

Before Oppenheimer, we watched the latest Spiderverse movie (the second one). I hadn't seen the first one, but I was able to pick up the story fairly easily. I enjoyed it, although with how long it was taking for anything to happen, it felt they were setting it up for a cliffhanger… And of course they were :mefiant:

God I haven't watched any Pirates movies' since um...I think it was End of the World or something like that? I should check the other movies out later.

I found the 4th one pretty forgettable, but the 5th one was good. Closer to the original trilogy in spirit. Though, of course, you cannot skip the 4th one, since some of the plot developments in the 5th one depend on it.

Just watched Kung Fu Panda 4, and I honestly preferred it to 2 and 3! But I see why people didn’t like it, it felt a bit over-the-top

My sister is staying with us, and we've watched a lot of movies!

The entire Hobbit trilogy - first for me! I refused to watch it in the cinema, for not willing to pay for a short story stretched to three movies. However, that aside - the movies are quite good. Not LOTR level of good, but still an impressive project.

No Country for Old Men - Considered a classic, and has a few moments, but I didn't enjoy it as much, and not just for the excessive violence.

Sleepy Hollow - watched it a few times many years ago, and didn't remember many of the details, so it was fun.

The Sixth Sense - probably the movie I enjoyed the most. It's the combination of mystery and very light horror that I find appealing. Not going to spoil any plot details here.

Whiplash - again first for me - came to it after watching the Simpsons Season 30 Episode 19 which parodied the teacher in this movie. Quite enjoyable.

I remember I hated the Hobbit trilogy; the movies felt slow and childish, and a huge disappointment compared to the Lord of Rings films. I understand the childish aspect given that the original material is indeed children's literature, but the movies do not appear to have been marketed as such. As for the sluggishness and lack of content, I suppose it's not so surprising given that they had to spread thin a much shorter book into three long movies, but I find that decision very questionable from a creative point of view and see it as a rather obvious attempt to milk as much money as possible from the popular franchise. :(

I completely agree. Some people have actually released an edit of the trilogy that cuts down on all those things you've mentioned. It's called the "Tolkien edit". It cuts down the trilogy into a 4 hour long movie.

That sounds interesting, I'll certainly give it a try when I decide to watch the series again!

Watched "Let the right one in" (2008) - a light Swedish horror/drama movie dealing with things like bullying in school and the ethics of murder for survival.
And "Equilibrium" (2002)- a kitschy, oversimplified, exaggerated, completely transparent Hollywood anti-utopian future action flick where once again Sean Bean gets killed.

Both were reasonably enjoyable.

I watched Dune and Dune 2 yesterday for the first time, amazing movies I definitely recommend them. I was told I would hate Baron Harkonnen but it was delightful to watch that ball of lard float in the air.

Yeah the Denis Villeneuve series :)

I've watched a lot of horror movies the past month as well with my SO. Late night with the devil, Abigail, Barbarians, Us (by Jordan Peele) and The Ritual were a very good watch. The Lighthouse is a good reccomendation as well, if you can deal with a black and white movie that is not very clear in its meaning at all, still good to admire Willem Dafoe's acting range in any case. Also a careful recommendation for "I saw the TV glow". I thought it was an amazing movie right until the end, which really left me disappointed. I understand the reasoning behind the ending but I felt like they could have done so much more, but that would detract from the message of the movie I guess. This made me feel very conflicted because I felt like they could've achieved that with a better ending that would feel us less disappointed, but then people would just probably tell me this movie wasn't for me. It probably wasn't for me anyways.

Just watched Dr. Strangelove, I quite liked it, although I thought the last 40 minutes or so carried the film.

I just came back from seeing Joker 2. I liked it, I don't know why it's as hated as it is. The criticisms it receives are so... not incriminating? And yet it's sitting at like 3/10 on most aggregators.

A lot of people say it fails to develop on the first film at all. I disagree, I think the themes it tackled were very appropriate as a follow-up. Now we get to see what his defenders look like, and not just one, but two sides: those who try and pass off his crimes as uncontrolled trauma responses and that there's a normal person deep down, and those who fetishise what his public image stands for - and neither speak for who he actually is and why he is the way he is. They might not be the most subversive themes, but I'd say the same about the first movie. Where they succeed is in how relatable they make Arthur's struggle feel, and, honestly, there aren't a lot of blockbusters that tackle this topic. And I think it does a very good job.

A lot of people criticise the musical numbers, saying they feel like they feel disconnected from the film. I guess I see their point in that if you removed all the songs the movie would still be the same, but is that even inherently a problem? They're all short... 1, mayyybe 2 minutes max, and they just serve to represent the "Joker fantasy" Harley tries to instill in his mind. They're unintrusive and blend in just fine. I'm not even a huge fan of musicals, and it's not really one.

It was 2 hours and 20 minutes and I was hooked the whole time. Idk why people thought the courtroom stuff was boring, it wasn't at all. Hearing all these people give their accounts on their interactions with Arthur was really interesting, especially his former boss when he was a sign clown at the start of the first movie. It having a very different directorial style than the first movie didn't bother me at all.

At worst I can say it wasn't what I was expecting, and it could've been more. I think a lot of people saw the first movie as a potential springboard for a follow-up with a 10/10 character journey, bigger in scope, with some grand moments that really tugged at you and changed your week, where the Joker actually does real Joker stuff... but that's almost fanservice, it's not necessary. If you just take it for what it is, it's still enjoyable. It's almost depressing it didn't lead into something greater, but that kinda perfectly captures the cynical message of the movies. It's not satisfying, no one really gets what they deserve, and Arthur is killed in a very sudden and unspectacular way.

If you didn't appreciate what the first movie did, then you definitely won't care for this one. It's a good movie though in my opinion, massively over-hated. I'd recommend anyone swayed from seeing it by reviews go see it themselves and form their own opinion.

I saw the Wild Robot last week.

It's really, really beautiful. It's worth seeing for the art style alone. Really a wonder what we can do with animation these days.

As for the plot, it's a bit cliché and has quite a few holes but the movies tries to be more emotional than coherent and as such hits on the right notes. It's worth a watch.
