*pre-record day bump
I have an iPhone SE or SE 2 (not sure lol) but I think that android is far superior personally (have a Lenovo tablet and tempted to break my phone just to get an android
but the phone case is literally indestructible, I’ve smashed it on the floor over 10 times and not even a dent!) decided to see what other phones people have?

Re: What phone do you have?
Personally I'm not sure how this thread would fair on Record Day, but considering I did recently change phones, this is super relevant!
I've gone from an LG V50 to a Sony Xperia 1V, the best part is no stupid notch in the screen, no camera hole in the screen, I have a nice full OLED screen on a device that still has a physical 3.5mm headphone jack and a MicroSD card slot. I can't tell you how happy I am to have these features in a modern smart phone.

if you go to settings > general > about > copy the model number (ends with “/A”) I’ll be able to tell you
In fact I’m actually typing this from a MU793SX/A
(haha sorry about that)

Re: What phone do you have?
Anyone with a Motorola smartphone like me over here?
Currently owning a Motorola Moto G6 Plus and I feel I should change it soon as it has become pretty laggy over time and apps keep crashing.
Of all the smartphones I've had this was the best and it will be difficult to change it, I'll probably get another Motorola but they don't make them like the one I have now anymore..

Re: What phone do you have?
It's a pity really, I think Motorola phones were amongst the best cheap but good smartphones back when Google owned them, but they've long since been overtaken since Lenovo took them. Software support just isn't up to scratch with some of the bigger brands alas.
Doesn't mean I don't have fond memories of my old 1st gen Moto G. That was a nice phone for its time.

You're reminding me of my Motorola Droid X, which was my first smart phone, which was something I had gotten after using a Motorola Razr flip phone.Master wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2024 7:45 am Doesn't mean I don't have fond memories of my old 1st gen Moto G. That was a nice phone for its time.

Re: What phone do you have?
The brand name rings a bell (haha), but in general I can't really remember much of the pre-Google Motorola Android era. One phone I can distinctly remember though is the one that could plug into a laptop case attachement to act as a pared down laptop. Kinda funny to think the concept tried all the way back then, before the advent of things like Dex.Hoodcom wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2024 2:56 pm You're reminding me of my Motorola Droid X, which was my first smart phone, which was something I had gotten after using a Motorola Razr flip phone.![]()
I remember the old Razrs, didn't own one but they looked so cool back then. Ofc these days they're not quite as Razr-like, but it's neat to see how the brand name has been resurrected, even if foldables are a bit ehhh.

Ringa ding ding, do you hear the bell ringing?Master wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2024 7:52 pm The brand name rings a bell (haha), but in general I can't really remember much of the pre-Google Motorola Android era. Though that attachment sounds pretty nifty, interesting to see what kind of concepts they had come up with during the early smart phone days. I know my Droid X had some time of small HDMI output. For what use I don't know, since I never tried it.
Yeah, back when phones were getting smaller and smaller, and now days it's them getting bigger and bigger again.

Re: What phone do you have?
Moto EDGE still be alive and kicking after 4 years but maybe next year I'll upgrade, just remind me not to get an e-sim again. Maybe another Moto or maybe not but we'll see.

I take it you've had issues with e-sim?Cairnie wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2024 11:04 pm Moto EDGE still be alive and kicking after 4 years but maybe next year I'll upgrade, just remind me not to get an e-sim again. Maybe another Moto or maybe not but we'll see.
Re: What phone do you have?
Right now I have an Oppo Find X5 Pro. I got it nearly a year ago when my old Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was just starting to show its age a little. Mostly just due to no longer being updated and having to rely on custom ROMs. It actually still had decent hardware for what it was, and the screen was nice of course, but my new one is even nicer and 120Hz.

Re: What phone do you have?
Yeah with E-SIM they are only compatible with phones from around 2023 and I had this one since 2020, so when I got the new 12 month my number was knocked out for like a week while waiting for the plastic sim to activate. I had to ring my carrier to get it activated in the end but that week was not cool.

Re: What phone do you have?
The realization only recently dawned on me that even if you're updating LineageOS regularly, you're not actually getting kernel updates because only the OEM has the resources / ability to backport kernel fixes to whatever snapshot they've got all their out-of-tree / proprietary drivers hooked intoSteo wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2024 11:11 pm Mostly just due to no longer being updated and having to rely on custom ROMs.
Re: What phone do you have?
Yeah it's a shame, because most times the hardware is well capable of it, but you're limited for the sole reason of having to be forced to buy a new phone. Most of these things usually cause camera issues too unfortunately. It's kind of annoying that they work in this way. I even remember Sony phones used to lose camera features and become really noisy etc. just because you unlocked the bootloader.PluMGMK wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2024 11:16 pm The realization only recently dawned on me that even if you're updating LineageOS regularly, you're not actually getting kernel updates because only the OEM has the resources / ability to backport kernel fixes to whatever snapshot they've got all their out-of-tree / proprietary drivers hooked intoMainlining is a thing, but again without corporate backing, not very fast / viable in a lot of cases. For example, for my phone, if I were to install an OS with a mainline kernel, my camera would be "broken"

Re: What phone do you have?
Heck, even my FairPhone 3 displays a scary message on bootup because the bootloader is unlocked! "Do not store any sensitive data on this device"Steo wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2024 11:21 pm Yeah it's a shame, because most times the hardware is well capable of it, but you're limited for the sole reason of having to be forced to buy a new phone.
