Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Yeah... I've been diagnosed with ADHD when I was little. I've always had a hard time focusing, mom could never tell me multiple chores to do at once because I would forget them all, and if the TV was on I was easily distracted by that. Things at school were hard, distraction was easy, homework and stuff were hard. Especially on anything I had zero interest in. I daydreamed a lot, was fidgety... And even well into my adult hood, I'm very disorganized. As a person with ADHD I have zero concept of time as well. Hyperfocusing is certainly real.
I know ADHD and Autism can share the same traits too, and I feel some of those can kind of apply to me as well.
Though, I hear there are tools available to help people with it work through things, like making the environment more ADHD friendly. I do have an IT buddy who fought through ADHD and said it was really hard for him.

The distraction thing is just the worst and it came to a point where I'd be taken to the back room about it when I used to work in libraries. At that time I didn't think anything of it and was actually being medicated for the GAD, though I no longer take antidepressants, I actually stopped late last year and it's no longer safe to suddenly start them again. In the meantime I'm trying to use some strategies like pomodoro, body doubling etc but it's hard to keep up even with those.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
I’ve stated this in plus and minus earlier, but I’ve also been diagnosed with ADHD as a kid and had to take meds to deal with hyperactivity, lack of focus and difficulty concentrating. I used to always put more time into playing games rather than studying though I still was a pretty good student until high school.
Recently I went to a psychiatrist and after taking a couple tests which included mom’s and dad’s inputs he has confirmed that i still have aspects of adhd and as a result I’ve started taking meds again, though they’re non-stimulants this time. Mainly for helping with the lack of focus and concentration and I’ve noticed I can hyper focus on something as well if it has my interest so I’ve started taking medicine. Only problem is, it’s started bumping my blood pressure and heart rate up to more concerning levels. On top of the fact I have high blood pressure and I’m prediabetic. So I have to keep on top of my blood pressure each day which can be hard sometimes since the cuff can barely fit my arm which is why I think sometimes the readings are inaccurate.
I’ve started going to therapy myself, and my therapist has been really helpful with helping me come up with routines in order to help me function better and not be so….disorganized and lazy. I now have decent routines that I follow but I do still struggle to keep up with them sometimes due to me having a bad tendency to procrastinate and avoid things which I guess can be attributed to the anxiety issues I have as well. I just have a lot to deal with and process now these days. Just have to go through with it to move forward.

Yeah the procrastination thing is so real... I do it too much too, and never get things done when I should.
It's like a never ending cycle for me... some things I managed to get a better hold of, but so far nothing seems to have helped with my severe disorganization skills, and procrastination.

Organisation and some of my timekeeping (NB: being an earlybird) is something that throws people off and I felt like I had to kick my arse into it when I worked in libraries. I kept a Trello board on how to go about preparing things like children's events step by step. Everything else not work related, as well as the more important home stuff like doing the dishes and laundry, gets thrown right out of the window and I'm having a hard time keeping up with my hobbies.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Just reading about the dishes alone makes me think about it. In Sweden we only have a little apartment, so we don't have a dishwasher. I normally opt to wash them, but then sometimes I managed to put them off a little and it becomes a nightmare having to wash so many at one time due to it. For this reason I always try not to let them pile up, as I don't want to spend an hour washing them.

I don't have a dishwasher either despite living in a 4 bedroom house because our kitchen is too small for one, and depending on who's working we do take turns doing it. Like today for example as he's been working, and yesterday I worked less hours than him.

Dunno if you've looked into this already, but my friend who also had ADHD got gifted a countertop dishwasher for her birthday a few years ago. It's about the size of her drying rack and it's worked wonders for her. They have a pretty small kitchen as well and it's been a bit of a godsend for them.

Yeah, that's a huge part of why I struggle with hobbies I wanna do like art, sketching, 3D modeling in Blender... I want to do this stuff, I have interest, but I also have a hard time keeping up with it, while also overthinking the hell out of everything related to these to the point of burnout.Cairnie wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 5:24 pm Organisation and some of my timekeeping (NB: being an earlybird) is something that throws people off and I felt like I had to kick my arse into it when I worked in libraries. Some people in the apartments actually do have those small ones, but I was wondering if it was worth it when it's only for 2 people at the moment. I definitely want to have one in the future though.
As for having to clean it while being in a bigger house, I can imagine not keeping on top of that much become hectic very fast.

Oh yeah, I have a friend with one of those too in his apartment. It works out really well for him. He too deals with ADHD and a bit of autism.Master wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 5:35 pm Dunno if you've looked into this already, but my friend who also had ADHD got gifted a countertop dishwasher for her birthday a few years ago. Yeah, I think if I were on my own, I'd opt for a smaller one, but try to have more dishes and cutlery to make up for it, that way I won't have to turn it on too regularly. Plus having extra dishes helps if I were to have company.Steo wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 5:36 pm Some people in the apartments actually do have those small ones, but I was wondering if it was worth it when it's only for 2 people at the moment. As for other chores...part of me has been wondering if I should get a robot hoover at some point. I like hoovering tbf, but the mood to do it only comes every so often.

We have something like that at our lake house. Only thing you gotta keep up with is cleaning out the trash bin and unclogging it if you have a lot of hairy pets.Master wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 6:08 pm As for other chores...part of me has been wondering if I should get a robot hoover at some point. Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Same here, we do have extra cups and plates etc., just in case someone does come over to visit. It's nice to just try clean them frequently though while not having a dishwasher. We do at least have a double sink though.Master wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 6:08 pm Yeah, I think if I were on my own, I'd opt for a smaller one, but try to have more dishes and cutlery to make up for it, that way I won't have to turn it on too regularly. As for hoovering, we have both a regular one and a cordless one. The cordless one is great for if you are feeling a little lazy, and I find I always get so warm when using the regular one. Sometimes we have to use it for the rugs though.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
So we recently got a cordless one and I have to echo that sentiment. I used to hate having to hoover the stairs cause lugging around the corded hoover was cumbersome, but the cordless is so much more lightweight and now I actually feel a sense of joy rather than dread when it comes to the stairs.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Yeah I can relate with the stairs. It was always a nightmare here. The cord was never long enough so you would have to switch to an upstairs outlet halfway etc. The stairs was definitely the most annoying part of using a hoover with a cord.

Our vacuums never been that bad to carry up/down the stairs, thankfully.Master wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 6:14 pm So we recently got a cordless one and I have to echo that sentiment. The cord on the hoover at work is a nightmare to wind back up, if only it was like my one at home and just threads itself back in.
Hmm well less than 3 hours to go and still struggling to get to 100 as usual.

I take it that it has a very long cord on it?

Yeah pretty long, just so prone to kinking and all that jazz.
I think at some point tonight I better just put some of this dry laundry away. :V
