Re: Which internet browser?
Now that I've read the options, aren't most of the browsers Chromium based, except for Firefox?

Re: Which internet browser?
IE wasn't, though it's also dead. But yeah, Firefox and Safari I think are the active exceptions in that list I think.
Re: Which internet browser?
Firefox seems to be the one I always go to, since even on Linux it was always simple to install or came with some distros.

Re: Which internet browser?
Safari is more closely related to Chromium than Firefox (since Safari uses WebKit while Chromium uses Blink). Firefox's Gecko is really the only competitor still out thereMaster wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 5:21 pm IE wasn't, though it's also dead. Out of curiosity, doesn’t opera also work with Linux?

Ahh ok, I was under the impression Safari was more removed than that, I'll have to read further on that then.PluMGMK wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 5:24 pmSafari is more closely related to Chromium than Firefox (since Safari uses WebKit while Chromium uses Blink). Re: Which internet browser?
Firefox was my first thought once I experienced that problem on YouTube, as isn't chromium based. However, I still experienced that YouTube problem using that browser. It's... Weird
And yup, I think Opera works with Linux too.

Re: Which internet browser?
There was a period of time where IE was quite OK, but this was after they already lost all the client base to Firefox, and later to Chrome. Microsoft made it good, but it was too late.

Re: Which internet browser?
Sometimes I believe that Edge is simply IE renamed. The fame was so bad that they simply couldn't revert it

Re: Which internet browser?
Yeah but Edge is Chromium based, so I guess that's their way to ensure there's a clear difference?

Re: Which internet browser?
Edge was originally an evolution of IE, and was a pretty good one, but then they decided to stop investing in it and turn it into Yet Another Chromium Clone instead

Oh yeah, that's right. Though, it's kind of a shame as that means Google's Chromium is becoming too dominant.

Re: Which internet browser?
I just use Safari, it works well enough for me, and thats all I really need from a browser.

Re: Which internet browser?
Yeah, the old one had a blue E as its logo, which was like the IE one but without the yellow streak. Whereas the new one is a bit more abstract.Master wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 7:25 pm Oh yeah, I completely forgot. There was a time when there were two Edges wasn't there?
QFT. Even though I never really used Edge myself, I was very sad when I heard the news that it was becoming a Chlonium (see what I did there?Hoodcom wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 7:27 pm Oh yeah, that's right. Though, it's kind of a shame as that means Google's Chromium is becoming too dominant.

Re: Which internet browser?
Plus let's not forget the fact Google is killing off uBlock Origin on Chrome... This is why we need more competition in the browser space overall.

Re: Which internet browser?
I gotta say it isn't bad at all! I expected something similar to Internet Explorer and it's working much better than Chrome and Mozilla, which were the ones that I used. Not sure if it's because of Windows 11, but as long as it works fine for me I'll keep using it. Myself a couple of years ago would never say this

Re: Which internet browser?
I have heard that Google recently got called out officially for being a monopoly and was being looked into for being split up, doubt anything will come from that, but I wonder if that'll have any effect on the purvasiveness of Chromium?
Re: Which internet browser?
Old Edge was definitely the most smooth-feeling browser thanks to its tight integration with Windows and async scrolling. Too bad Google, as usual, sabotaged it (as well as Firefox) that, ultimately, it was just easier to make a Chromium fork.PluMGMK wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 7:24 pm Edge was originally an evolution of IE, and was a pretty good one, but then they decided to stop investing in it and turn it into Yet Another Chromium Clone instead![]()

Re: Which internet browser?
Yeah, they did get called out for it, and I heard this could negatively impact FireFox, since apparently Google pays them a lot of money to keep Google as the default search engine....Master wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 7:41 pm I have heard that Google recently got called out officially for being a monopoly and was being looked into for being split up, doubt anything will come from that, but I wonder if that'll have any effect on the purvasiveness of Chromium?
