Also, the forums are way more effective if you want to save information. Just imagine looking at the whole history chat on Discord to look for a very specific question...

One problem with forums is that there's very few modern solutions out there. phpBB hasn't seen a proper new feature in half a decade (if not more), and last time I checked, none of the challengers felt like a suitable replacement, either for functional or technical reasons.

Imagine a phpBB with a more modern UI, asynchronous loading where it makes sense, and an integrated mobile app with notifications? That would certainly solve a lot of the problems forums have.

And more effective at organizing a lot of information too, things you can't really do on Discord. While some of the newer forum software may look bad compared to the classic phpBB appearance we know and love, they also have a means of categorizing things and tagging threads. So you can effectively make searching for things easier.

On the topic of forums, I want to say I appreciate RaymanPC is still around. I enjoy the nostalgia of posting on forum boards in the good ol' days. I guess I'm just old.

Is it silly for me to say I feel nostalgic over the forum revival 1 year ago? :fou2:

Once upon a time I had time for that :nostalgic: Were there any more left on the Wayback Machine after that? I thought I was pretty thorough that time… :?

Thanks detective Plum. :chinois:
I'd be interested to see the original threads which led to Hunch to creating the Pirate Community, as an historical document! Unfortunately there is no search function on the wayback machine or in our own archive.

EDIT: I just found this, very tasty. https://archive.raymanpc.com/raymanzone/16928_1.html

For some reason, I thought we had a more complex system of browsing the old RaymanZone forum, and it was only given to active members here. :?

It used to be only available to those who had more than 100 posts in total, and had posted at least once in the last 24 hours (IIRC), but I think those restrictions are gone now since the bandwidth requirements are negligible.

Ah that's right, I had remembered there were some kind of restrictions, but it's been so long ago, I couldn't remember what they were.

It was always something in the back of my mind that I didn't get to explore much of. :oops2:

I only browse the old RaymanZone forum, so I can get through to the even older RaymanZone forum:

I tried one link at random on this page and I cannot see it anywhere, neither in your list, nor in our archive. All the links in your list use a topic parameter, could it be that you overlooked the ones with a post parameter?

Anyway, from what I can remember, what takes a little bit of time is to clean up the code and fix the links inside to use our local assets, but that can probably be automated. I don't think I'll have time to look into it though!

I had forgotten about this! Those fake accounts (whoever was behind them ) made RZ even more of a mess than it already was!

Aha, yes, I think I only searched for URLs with "viewtopic.php?t=". For some reason I didn't realize until years later that URLs without a topic ID are equally valid! :oops2:

Well, maybe I'll go trawling again someday for old times' sake. I might even look into automating the code cleanup and link fixes!

So I’ve just discovered the joys of looking at RPC via the wayback machine :oops2: mostly seeing how a lot of ranks changed!

It's also a nice throwback to look at the previous themes. :nostalgic:

Really being brutally honest, I prefer the current theme to the solaris one though

The other way around would have been surprising, except if you’re especially fond of that color-heavy 2000’s internet!

Yeah, I didn’t think it fit the site best, but I did like the bit more orangey 2010s website :P
