I think they wanted to double-down on pure comedy and cooperative gameplay. The energy of the game is pretty infectious. I can understand downplaying story for that reason, but at least some level of effort in that direction would have gone a long way.

And while I love the wackiness, I'm not sure why the characters always look rabid in this art style. Rayman looks like he's about to turn into a werewolf and Globox looks like he's been experimenting with drugs. And don't get me started on the uninspired skins...

Credit where it's due though: the controls are fluid, the gameplay flows, the art is clean and the sound design is glorious. A lot of care has been put into the sensory experience. I think we need better collaboration with storytellers and game designers to create the balance that hits just right.

I wholeheartedly agree! And back on the subject of Captain Laserhawk, I still prefer a provoking depiction of Rayman doing drugs over a braindead pervert blowing Betilla's skirt, and speaking of which, a design for the nymphs that is borderline NSFW in the sense that I would certainly not open a RayWiki article about them at the office unless I want my colleagues to think I'm a perverted weirdo. :fou2:

I'm okay with both as long as it serves a story, which Captain Laserhawk provides (even though I thought the sum of all parts is shallow) and Origins removed entirely.

It is, however, sad to see that it (Betilla's skirt sheananigans) was dropped because we now know all the allegations of sexual harassment that have happened within Ubisoft, some directed at Michel Ancel himself which caused him to jump ship. So it might very well have been possible that this vision of Rayman debauchery was there because the producer at Ubisoft just thought it was funny.

I’ve never heard of these shenanigans before, but they dropped the skirt over sexual harassment?

Nah, they dropped the skirt bit because Rayman Origins ended up not being a prequel and therefore the bit where Rayman whirlwinded Betilla's skirt had no business remaining (since in the trailer it was done directly after Rayman creation)

If there was any issues with dubious representation of women all the nymph would have been redesigned to be less skimpy and more useful in the finished product.

I mean... It's a very well known fact that everybody loves titties.

Except captain Laserhawk, of course : he's gay.

Het men love tits
Het women love tits (their own)
Non-het women love tits
Non-het men love tits (if they're into chubsters)

Captain Laserhawk fits into none of those category. In fact, last time he had a bear as a boyfriend, he betrayed him. This mad must loathe boobs.

I had heard that it was supposed to be a mechanic in the game using the helicopter, is it mentioned somewhere? I can't find any sources

It's shown in the very first trailer at the end if I remember correctly

Indeed, at 1:05 and 1:26 you can see it suggested again.

Yeah, that was the only time it was ever featured in rayman. Just because it’s in a trailer doesn’t mean it has to be canon

Btw, don't look at my profile picture. When I chose it I was tired and I thought it would be kinda funny, but now it's just kinda cringe. I really don't want people thinking I'm one of those annoying Ramon stans. :oops2:
I do like Ramon, but I know he's not the best Rayman cuz in a way he's less Rayman & more Assassin Ray.

But he is the best "animated show" Rayman because to me he's the most compelling.

Yeah he fucking shoots "people" down in a bloody massacre, but I think y'all forgot something here.
  • 1. He's shooting down tyrants, basically just a more extreme version of what he usually does as a hero [fights & defeats villains]

    2. He appears to feel empty after taking his vengeance, proving Bullfrog right in a way far greater than Lazerhawk did, i.e spelling it out to the audience like a shmuck.

    3. He saved a character who was wrongfully imprisoned & put on death row [another thing he usually does as a hero that got cranked to the extreme]

    4. HE MOTHERFUCKING SLAYS UBISOFT IN A BITTERSWEET ONSLAUGHT, GUNS BLAZING! TO THOSE WHO LIKE HIM, HE IS A SENSE OF CATHARSIS FOR ALL THE BULLSHIT THIS FANDOM HAS BEEN PUT THROUGH.
It's okay if you feel icky about him being a lot tougher & cut-throat in this version. But he simply did not have enough time to get a full arc because nobody had that in this series, for it was only 6 episodes long while being written like it had 13 or even 65 of them.

What? I think he's just a hurt twink who needs to get some help, & that help is locked away somewhere after being saved from death row by the 1 character I thought every here would appreciate like I do...
