Most disappointing Rayman game?
For me it was definitely Legends. After the Masterpiece of a game that was Origins (Which was my first game in the series btw
) I was eagerly awaiting the next release. I soon got myself acquainted with older titles in the series and soon became a Raymaniac! After finding out about legends and receiving it for my birthday, I was expecting the same fun adventure as origins with some cool new mechanics. What i got was basically A glorified expansion pack for Origins without the level by level structure that allowed for challenge to build. I don't like the choose whatever order you want to play the levels in approach, because It made the game feel less connected, challenging, and not as engaging. Origins level structure made it feel like an actual adventure. I was also sad that they took out the Bzzt shmup sections and i really missed the electoons. The bosses weren't as challenging either. I did however enjoy the music levels and i played kung foot for hours with my dad. All in all i don't hate the game, its just doesn't live up to it's older brother imo.

Hmmmm…..from the ones I’ve played I’ll say either Rayman DS or Rayman 2 for GBC. Shocking? Yes since I love Rayman 2, just not those versions in particular.

Re: Most disapointing Rayman game?
Rayman 3, for me, got the hd version like 6-7 years ago (the only other Rayman game I've ever played during this time was Legends), and I just flat out did not like it. Its gameplay feels kinda clunky and slow paced, and I just dont care about the story. I keep on going back to it once every couple years, and I just keep getting dissapointed. I want to like it, but the game just sucks imo.

When I first heard about rayman raving rabbids I thought it was a 3D open world adventure game with tons of rabbid themed bosses and with rayman teaming up with rabbids for an ultimate final boss against a giant rabbid. You can’t imagine how disappointed I was when I learnt it was a minigame collection

Funny how you were able to replicate the arc of many a Rayman fan who witnessed the game's announcement and release despite being born a few years later!Greengoop wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 4:35 pm When I first heard about rayman raving rabbids I thought it was a 3D open world adventure game with tons of rabbid themed bosses and with rayman teaming up with rabbids for an ultimate final boss against a giant rabbid. Basically, on reflection, I would probably give the same answer, since I remember that time…

Re: Most disappointing Rayman game?
Origins disappointed me for its lack of story and character personalities. Ironically, Legends disappointed me LESS in those departments because I wasn't expecting them in the first place.
When I was a kid I thought Rayman DS was going to be a brand new game (despite all the trailers showing pretty darn familiar levels...), so I was obviously very disappointed when it just turned out to be Rayman 2. The funny thing is, my only version of 2 before then was on PS1, so Rayman DS was my first time seeing a lot of the original content that got cut in that version. I thought Top of the World, the bonus race minigame, and the original final boss were brand new additions! (hated them all)
Rayman Forever disappointed me by not being compatible with modern laptops in 2015.
I won't even mention Rabbids because, duh.

Oh no, that doesn’t sound fun to occasionally come back to a game you don’t like. I would suggest to dry a different port of Rayman 3, but I doubt that would change how you feel about the game.Ithasmore wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 4:23 pm Rayman 3, for me, got the hd version like 6-7 years ago (the only other Rayman game I've ever played during this time was Legends), and I just flat out did not like it. Yeah, I just realised how suspiciously similar my imagination was to the actual game!PluMGMK wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 10:27 pm Funny how you were able to replicate the arc of many a Rayman fan who witnessed the game's announcement and release despite being born a few years later!![]()
Re: Most disappointing Rayman game?
Most disappointing Rayman game for me is Rayman Revolution, by a looong way.
I know it's a hot take for some but I think it hurts the pacing of Rayman 2 and the extra content clashes with the artistic direction of the game. Every decision stands out to me as flawed, which I could explain at great length but I'll spare you that ordeal.
Anyway, the disappointment hit hard because I already loved Rayman 2 and the cover of Revolution with Rayman and Ly and the promise of extra content was really exciting.

It is my favorite and therefore we are now enemies.Hugo wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 7:56 am Most disappointing Rayman game for me is Rayman Revolution, by a looong way.
Our duel will be set on the 10th of November 2026 at the townhall in Nuuk. It might feature swords. Prepare yourself.

Re: Most disappointing Rayman game?
Well given the state of the Rayman franchise, clearly we need a new hero. Go forth and fulfil your destiny Hugo
As for most disappointing...I dunno. I don't think I've ever really felt let down by any of the games I've played, I was too young to be really disappointed in the original games since gaming was still a fresh and exciting experience back then, and the UbiArt titles, while I have my differences with them, they're still fun games and I never could really complain about having a bad time with them.
Same goes for RRR really, in fairness this was around the time when I was starting to be able to follow gaming news so I sorta saw the change coming to an extent. I didn't completely understand why it didn't have what the original E3 stuff showed, but I still had a decent time with the minigames, even if i did find the plot to be completely flimsy. I think RRR2 is when I soured on the series, but I never played that or the other games until much later on, and those were the DS titles and by that point I kinda knew what to expect so there were no expectations to be left unmet.

I don’t get the hate for Rayman 3 HD. Like sure, it removed 2 things, but it added a better scoring system, as well as a rayman origins art gallery! The Jonster wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 6:47 am Oh no, that doesn’t sound fun to occasionally come back to a game you don’t like. Re: Most disappointing Rayman game?
Probably Rayman Origins, because I remember having high hopes, given how much closer it looked to the environments of the original game during its development. In the end, we did get a bunch of nice throwbacks, but most of the environments felt a bit bland to me, I did not like the wackiness that bordered idiocy nor did I think the skanky nymphs or Rayman's perverted character were particularly valuable additions to the series' universe, and the nail in the coffin was the lack of lucid storytelling (to put it bluntly, they came up with a shit plot, realized it was shit and scrapped it, and the final result was still shit, but confusing too).
Same here, even though Legends went so far as to introduce human characters, my expectations were pretty low and we knew from the very start that it would be based on real-world myths and legends and therefore have nothing to do with the series' universe anyway.Sabertooth wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 12:03 am Origins disappointed me for its lack of story and character personalities. I agree with every word of this. Pirez, you are outnumbered (albeit by a rather small margin).Hugo wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 7:56 am Most disappointing Rayman game for me is Rayman Revolution, by a looong way.

I think it just felt very cheap to most people, and the visual bugs were pretty annoying. It also crashed a couple times when I was playing it.Greengoop wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 4:38 pm I don’t get the hate for Rayman 3 HD. Re: Most disappointing Rayman game?
I get that they could’ve definitely put a lot more effort into the port, but I don’t think playing it would devalue the experience of the game

(It actually is for real : my federation canceled training for referees. It will be done remotely. So this excuse goes away and if we want to do it we are free to schedule it more freely)

Maybe that's for the best, because I think Lovy might be traveling to the US for work around that initial date. I'll check with him and get back to everyone interested soon.Pirez wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 5:58 pm (It actually is for real : my federation canceled training for referees. It will be done remotely. Speaking of it, Lovy hasn’t showed up for over a month, I wonder what happened to him?
