With a substantial proportion of vegans being very sensitive about the matter, the opportunity is served on a silver platter.
I think there's also a bit of pushback of people who do not like to put their way of living into perspective.

It's easier to dismiss vegans as wacky-beta-soy-cucks as to actually think about the fact that the meat we consume comes from an animal we had to kill, often times without the slightest trace of humanity, and if often pollutes a whole lot to produce anyway.

I've been labeled a fag and a chick at work because I entertained the idea of at least trying the plant-based alternatives to meat (even though I don't think I'll ever be either vegetarian or vegan). That's how defensive people can get.

However, I'd take Plum's link with a grain of salt. I've grown wary of those "fact-check" list that reads just like a list of gotchas to win arguments. Veganism can be a battle if you're an activist, but it doesn't have to be either.

Grown men you a “Fag” or a “chick” for wanting to try food has to be one of the most pathetic copes I’ve heard in my entire life. Like how is their life going to be any different if some people just ate the plant alternative?

It's weird how accusation of homosexuality are still a go to in our current times where homosexuality is pretty much accepted.

That's a good point, mocking others is an easy way to dismiss arguments, whether valid or invalid. and avoid questioning oneself.

I don't suppose they mean it literally when they say that, or do they?

To be honest, a lot of people will just call you “gay” because their weak minds can’t think of a better insult.

Yeah, that's what I meant. It's still dumb, but I don't think they mean it literally.

I still remember a few months ago when people were doing that stupid “If you move you’re gay” thing. That was the worst period of the modern era, seeing a bunch of kids frozen in place wherever I went at school

I think of some members we've had in the past, and maybe they should have been told "if you post you're gay".

We could definitely use that as an efficient anti-spam mechanism, especially considering most of them would be no doubt homophobic

I hear ya… I still felt it was worth posting though, since it acknowledges that some of the questions are "complicated", and that sometimes the vegan option is not the best (e.g. when it involves human exploitation)…

Oh wow… Having been in classrooms where kids couldn't stay quiet if their lives depended on it, I find this so hard to even imagine! :boon: How many kids are we talking about here? I remember people calling each other gay twenty years ago, most of them didn't even know what it meant… The playground needs new insults… :boon:

Literally everyone!; genuine nice people, chavs, chavettes, quiet kids, athletic kids, weird kids, it was a goddamn nightmare. I was so relieved the day I first saw someone literally just say “well that’s not funny, is it?” After being told it

I'm pretty sure I would have ignored it. I always did my own thing in the corner of the schoolyard anyway

When the fate of moving is worse than death, it was hard for a lot of people to try and be like that

Oh wow, I'd forgotten how weird this thread was :oops2: Well, I console myself by reminding myself again and again that we all had cabin fever at the time from over half a year of rolling lockdowns :hap:

How about another Awesome and Cool Poll instead?
