Re: Rayman 2
it’s not unused; the hint stone just provides misinformation. You access the Knowledge of the World by holding the F1 key down, not J.

Re: Rayman 2
I wonder why in the PC version it says “omniscient” but in the N64 version it says “naive” (spelt wrong
)
Re: Rayman 2
It depends on the number of Lums you have collected. https://raymanpc.com/wiki/en/The_Knowledge_of_the_World

Re: Rayman 2
That’s interesting! So it’s almost like a rank system?
Re: Rayman 2
Yee that’s exactly it

Re: Rayman 2
I didn’t know they were doing rank systems all the way back in 1999!
Re: Rayman 2
You're still at the naïve rank broGreengoop wrote: Sat Oct 05, 2024 8:56 am I didn’t know they were doing rank systems all the way back in 1999!![]()

Re: Rayman 2
If we’re talking about the actual game, then I’d be enlightened
Re: Rayman 2
I agree, the realization you have so far to catch up with me must be very enlightening

Re: Rayman 2
Oh, how naïve of you to think in a way like that?
Re: Rayman 2
Sometimes I have to step into the shoes of the lesser ranks to understand their perspective. And by lesser I mean the lowest rank. You're at the lowest rank.

Re: Rayman 2
Aha, very interesting! I always knew that J brought up the stats, and found it a bit underwhelming that you "find out why Yellow Lums are so important" just by seeing that you need to take five in this level… Somehow I never made the connection that he was trying to tell you how to bring up the Knowledge of the World, but that makes so much more sense! The Jonster wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 11:58 pm I just remembered something about my first time playing Rayman 2 on the PC version and I thought about checking it out. After breaking the first cage in the Woods of Light, Murfy mentions how to access the Knowledge of the World and discover why collecting yellow lums was so important, which is by pressing J.
My guess is that they originally intended for pressing J to bring up the stats, and holding it to bring up the Knowledge. But at some point they screwed it up when they implemented the maximum health cheat, and forgot to update the instructional text.
Thanks for this, the world makes a little more sense now
Re: Rayman 2
Yeah, the text is wrong on PC for some reason; not sure why it says J. The French translation has it say F1 on the second textbox, but the first one still says J. Not sure about the other translations.

Re: Rayman 2
Wait, really? I've been playing the French version for ten years and somehow still failed to make the connection!
I guess I saw the second one was correct and completely forgot about it being incorrect in the English one...
Now I wonder what I put in the Irish translation

Re: Rayman 2
Well in any case, the J key still has some importance, even if it isn't as important as he claims.....
This is just my own theory, but perhaps what Murfy was really meant to explain was to use the J key (or whatever control in other versions) to keep track of how many cages and lums you've collected after breaking the cage, hence why he says J there, while the later hint stone was meant to give F1 to access the Knowledge of the World instead of J. It doesn't make sense why Murfy would come and explain something, and have a later hint stone where he doesn't appear state the same thing, since most of the time any sparkling hint stone that gives Murfy's advice will usually be close to where he appears to Rayman the first time to give his advice.

Re: Rayman 2
I think you're overthinking… Both are clearly intended to speak of the Knowledge of the World. The only reason there are no sparkles at the hint stone is that the cutscene with him is a once-off triggered by you breaking your first cage. It wouldn't make sense to replay that cutscene without that context, but the hint stone is still required in case you missed that detail during the cutscene

Re: Rayman 2
I suppose that’s true, when I think about it. I am curious how the other translations of the PC version of the game interpret the 2 text boxes in terms of what button to press though.
