Maybe play WW and come back to MM afterwards? Also I’d love to see a rayman game on switch online

Yeah that was my thinking, the mental block however has left me unable to really get anywhere. I understand the underlying mechanics and the routines, but I just can't engage with them, and this is the 3DS version so it's had some QoL tweaks as well. I fizzled out on it a few months ago at any rate so if I were to go back I'd probably have to do from scratch just so i knew what was going on.

As for Rayman on NSO, part of me thinks if any Rayman game makes it onto there, it'd likely be Rayman 2 N64...

Weren’t there rumours back in 2019 about rayman 2 and 3 getting HD remastered on switch? Man, I would’ve loved that :oops2:

Well, you know what this fanbase is like when it comes to rumour and wishful thinking. Still, fans are picking up the slack on that front I suppose.

I’d love to be part of the hardcore Mario/Zelda fanbase and getting a new game every few years, I guess I chose which games are my favourite incorrectly :oops2:

I have absolutely no recollection of that. Either the rumours didn't get as far as RaymanPC, or I ignored them so thoroughly that they made no imprint on my memory :hap:

Depends on how well the game’s made. Jade for example, has one good game, and only one good game. Which means, a 100% satisfaction rate from me! :D

Rayman, on the other hand has a couple choices that I didn’t care for (yeah I looking at you GBC R2), so not 100% great games!

Yes, but she's also an afterthought in Captain Laserhawk. So 50/50, really...

Ah, that’s fair enough, I wonder where they originated from :pardon:

Master wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 5:47 pm As for the games in question, I did finally play through some of the classic 3D Zeldas, beat OoT and had a decent time, but MM hasn't clicked with me, and I've been contemplating skipping to Windwaker.
Oh nice job on finishing OoT! Aside from the GBC games I’ve never been able to finish a Zelda game. I usually stop partway before I finish. Lessee if I remember these are the places I stopped at in the other games I played…

I usually stop when I get stuck and suddenly realise I have absolutely zero motivation to finish

Here’s where I got stuck in some games

Zelda 1: looking for next dungeon after beating level 6
Zelda LTTP: looking for what to do after beating the first dungeon and going to the village
Zelda TP: trying to catch a fish in the tutorial
Zelda LBW: trying to beat the volcano dungeon
Zelda SS: sky keep (although I beat the HD version on normal and hero mode)

This made me laugh, I immediately recognize what you mean!

Zora's Domain is an understandable point to quit, was that before you got any of the spirit stones? If you're at the third spirit stone, you were about to enter the worst dungeon of the game anyways.
Snowfall is a cool area, the goron mask is my favorite mask as well.
Lakebed temple is my third favorite temple behind snowpeak ruins (#2) and arbiter's grounds (#1).

I only finished zelda one like a month ago and I quit during some part of the second quest a year before. I really like the game and I think it holds up quite well in a retro sense. I managed to beat the game without dying in 1 run as well which was very fun, took about 1-2 hours.
A link to the past keeps the handholding to a minimum, I'm a bit stuck in the 6th dungeon which is the swamp temple.
TP tutorial sucks
Haven't played LBW, SS didn't really click for me. The 4th temple and the electrical sandship are easily the best parts of the game.

Think your quote might have been a bit borked, it was Jonster who said that:

On my end though, I think I fizzled out around Southern Swamp, I think I was lacking direction as I was talking to a friend and they recommended I play with a guide. Tbh, I'm wondering if it was that and also the fact that I'd come fresh off of OoT so I might have just needed a bit of a break from Zelda in general at that point.

I’d recommend playing the HD switch version that doesn’t have the obnoxious motion controls

Whoops.
OOT is definitely a zelda game that exhausts you, looking at the water temple in particular. ALTTP is more cute and doesn't exhaust you as much, but it definitely challenges you to figure everything out for yourself. It can be nice but you have to be in the mood for that type of game, especially since time doesn't grow on trees.

Oh I finished it about 12-13 years ago. At first I thought something along the lines of "oh cool this is like Wind Waker but in the sky!", but then I got disappointed because the sky world is basically just a not fully fleshed out gimmick. The great sea in WW felt like an actual world, in contrast to the sky world in SS. I liked the motion control swordfighting when I got used to it, and I liked the idea of fighting Ghirahim throughout the game, but I'd rather have a unique dungeon boss for every dungeon and not fight the same guy over and over again in their stead. Most of my zelda replayability comes from community-made achievements on retroachievements.org, I might replay SS once it receives an achievement set someday.

A lot of criticisms I see of skyward sword come from the fact that it is linear in a way no other Zelda game is (at least 3D-wise, damn you spirit tracks). You essentially have this tiny world you can explore which you gradually unlock a tiny bit more of upon defeating a boss/completing a task

True, but Twilight Princess was like that as well. I don't really care about linearity that much, as long as they switch it up between games. I liked Spirit Tracks actually, looking back at it, even though it was just Phantom Hourglass with trains instead of boats. I even like the game boy and game boy color games. For me the only kinda bad Zelda game is Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. It's just too hard, you have to do everything near perfectly. Good game for its time though I guess.

Adventure of link was an interesting experiment the developers tried, seeing what would happen if they made Zelda more RPC-Style. But I agree it didn’t turn out well

That’s exactly what happened in Z1 with me. Neither me or my brother had phones at the time so he got the map up on hyrule warriors to guide me
