In theory getting a diagnosis should at least give you some access to care, I've got some friends who had a late ADHD diagnosis but now can take meds that help them concentrate and it's made quite a difference for them. Though of course, there's the downsides such as professional discrimination and lack of access to things as you're rightfully mentioning.

Re: Off Topic
It depends on the workplace, but yeah there's definitely cases where folks will either be locked out of jobs cause people don't want to deal with them, or they do have a job but stuggle and suffer because they can't fit into the "culture" as it was. In fairness, there are initiatives and campaigns to try and make places more neurodivergent friendly, and I've not really had any issues where I work.
But in the grand scheme of things, It doesn't help either that autism is a spectrum disorder, I think we higher functioning folks, especially if we wear the mask well, sometimes forget that just cause we can get by, doesn't mean others can. It affects differently in means and in severity. And neurotypical folk are more likely to encounter higher functioning folks in their day-to-day, so their own perceptions are going to be skewed.

Ah, my remark was meant to be more reflective on folks who are on a similar functional level as I and how our own perspectives can be skewed. But yeah, folks don't really understand how much of a struggle it can be on that front, cause to them things like that are instinctual and trivial, the idea of it being a struggle is an aberration.

They hate us when were too disabled, and they hate us when were not disabled enough, its a cycle that doesnt help anyone.

Yeah very good point, I've not had the indiginity of having to deal with those kinds of assessments, but I've heard horror stories, it's painful.

That’s exactly why people didn’t believe me when I told them I had it. They just hadn’t seen us be portrayed in my way in the media
I doubt they meant it in THAT way, that’d just be straight weird. Maybe they were wondering on how you slept
