Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Look what we have here... So this mf is coming back finally?
It's surprising news not only because of the fact that they're picking up the series after so long, but because of all the fuss that's going on with the studio restructuring at Ubisoft. They're making a lot of screw-ups lately, I sincerely hope this doesn't end up being one of them...
And please don't let it be exclusive to Switch, the other platforms exist too!

That’s my biggest fear, the game being exclusive to switch. Imagine having an amazing game only for it to be put down by stupid insufferable joysticks

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Well, to each their own. I've always agreed that Rayman should ideally be made by French developers and seeing Sparks of Hope only reinforced that for me.
Perhaps there is not much of a common factor between Rayman games in terms of recurring characters or themes, but one thing all games do have in common is that they all feel... "very French".
It's the art styles mainly, it all feels very similar to what you find in French or "French-adjacent" comic books/BDs, like Asterix & Obelix, Titeuf, the Smurfs...
Of course this style can be replicated, but for some reason the French still do it best. I think it's simply due to having grown up with different comics and other inspirations.
That said, this "French identity" of the series is not something Ubisoft should be destroying entire teams and/or morale for and it would be a huge shame if this was really part of the reason why a sequel to PoP:TLC was not greenlit. Classic Ubisoft, sadly.
I hope any tension can be resolved.
As for creative control issues, this is bound to happen when you put multiple individuals together who want to take the project in different directions. If Davide Soliani and co. left because of this, then it sucks for them (but is also great for them, because they're now free of Ubisoft, in a place where they have full creative control). And if so, this would mean Ancel's direction won out between the two - which I am glad for because I didn't like what I saw in Sparks of Hope's DLC.
What I want to say is, one small remark (with no source given?) about use of AI in games (which, by the way, happens all the time already and in 99% of cases you never know about it) really does not feel like something people should be so concerned about.

A lot of people are vehemently against it because many AI models are trained on artists' data without their permission, which means any output from using those models can be seen as stealing. I agree with this, but I also think there should be more nuance, as human artists also often use other works as reference art, consciously or not. Considering that, when simply using AI-generated images as reference art, or even as a base to speed up the process (provided it is still heavily edited later), there shouldn't be a problem. But because people's judgment is so black and white, any use of it is frowned upon, no matter how small.Hunchman801 wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 6:00 pmAgain, it's an incredibly powerful tool that can lead to great productivity gains when used in a sensible way, and it doesn't have to replace the entire process. Dogmatic opposition to such technology, regardless of its uses, is counterproductive and doomed to failure.

Of course, and that's what I meant by sensible use! I especially agree about an approach to compensation that takes into account the fact that, throughout history, artists have always inspired each other. I understand it's a difficult subject to tackle, but like you said, one such small remark really shouldn't provoke outrage.Droolie wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 10:40 pm A lot of people are vehemently against it because many AI models are trained on artists' data without their permission, which means any output from using those models can be seen as stealing. Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Do you think we'll get a new Rayman game or just ports/remasters? I'm expecting Ubisoft to just remaster Rayman 3 like they did with Beyond Good and Evil and do a remake of Rayman 2. I've seen some Rayman fans say Ubisoft will do ports/remasters to gauge interest for a new Rayman game but I doubt it. I think we're only getting ports and remasters. As much as I would love a new Rayman game I'm worried modern Ubisoft would fuck it up even with Michel Ancel involved and I doubt Ubisoft would want to foot the bill for a brand new Rayman game when they can make cheaper ports instead.
Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Yeah it's not like if Rayman 2 had changed the appearance of the glade, of the tings, of the limbless people, almost changed the design of the magician in its development (a bit like... Mr Dark in teensy but this time everyone complained about it when it didn't even happened) and that Origins had brought back the characters from Rayman 1, the 2d gameplay, the environmentsHunchman801 wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 9:46 amRayman 2 introduced a lot of new things, but very few, if any, conflicted with the lore of the original game. You can't say the same about Origins, unfortunately...Dumbo TV wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 1:22 am Yes he was also involved in Rayman 2, which had totally changed the lore and the appearance of the glade, unlike Origins which respected the previous appearance much more, if you had said Legends I would have understood![]()

Funny how certain characters are not considered human just because they have a very small characteristic that will suddenly make them seem like magical creatures despite their extremely human design (hello Ly da fairy)Hunchman801 wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 9:46 am Speaking of which.... please make Barbara and every other human character go away. Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
For the record, that remark was made in jest in response to Greengoop's statement about a Rayman Legends remake - I'm not quite sure why I'm being brought into this debate. I'm fairly certain I've expressed indifference towards the princesses in the past, but to make it clear...they're not my favourite designs, but I don't have an inherent opposition to humanoid characters. As you've so kindly provided an example - Ly is actually a character I'm rather fond of.
Truth be told, I don't really have any leg in this discourse, nor do I intend to be involved...put simply, I don't care either or.
If this is about my snarky remarks on consistency, that viewpoint was an expression on the nature of the series as a whole. That wasn't meant to be some sort of jab against any games in particular.

Well, this is interesting news. I'm keeping my expectations very low, though, especially given some of the concerning details about this remake's development. But then again, if it's just a remake of an already good game, how bad could it turn out?

Maybe Origins is the uncanny valley of game sequels: so close, yet so far.Dumbo TV wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 9:35 pm Yeah it's not like if Rayman 2 had changed the appearance of the glade, of the tings, of the limbless people, almost changed the design of the magician in its development (a bit like... Anyway, I didn't mind the introduction of many new things so long as they didn't conflict with what was previously established. They probably didn't care either when making Rayman 2, but given that the original game was rather light in terms of lore, I suppose there wasn't much to conflict with in the first place.
Well, I don't care that they look like humans, I just don't like seeing earthly stuff in the Glade of Dreams. At least, last I checked, pointy-eared fairies were nowhere to be found on our planet!Dumbo TV wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 9:35 pm Funny how certain characters are not considered human just because they have a very small characteristic that will suddenly make them seem like magical creatures despite their extremely human design (hello Ly da fairy)

So fairies, nymphs are ok, but for example Mount Olympus is not ? Why are some "humans" legends considered ok and others not ?Hunchman801 wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 1:12 am Well, I don't care that they look like humans, I just don't like seeing earthly stuff in the Glade of Dreams. Mount Olympus is not a human though, it is a mountain in Greece
Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
What I wanted to say is that some people didn't like the Legends environments because they reference our legends ans creations, and thats make no sense lolGreengoop wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 12:03 pm Mount Olympus is not a human though, it is a mountain in Greece

Mount Olympus felt a bit out of place since a lot of worlds (Dracula, Sinbad) themed on stories or myths never made it into the game but this one did

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Fairies have little to nothing to do with human civilization, they're just creatures with magical powers. Legends such as those of Greek mythology, for example, are inseparable from human culture and civilization and I don't think they fit well in Rayman's world, where those don't exist.Dumbo TV wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 12:03 pm So fairies, nymphs are ok, but for example Mount Olympus is not ? Bad as in hot, bad as in evil, or bad as in a not good character?
