Re: The Legend of Zelda topic

So after all my umming and erring about moving to Windwaker...I ended up finding my Switch cart for Skyward Sword HD and finished that instead. I started from scratch, partially cause I was practically blind cause I'd forgotten everything having not played it for about 2 and a half years, but also cause I seem to have lost my old save anyways.

On the whole, I think it was much more enjoyable and I beat it without that blocking sense this time. Last time I played SSHD I'd had only finished BoTW, this time I've beaten that and ToTK and OoT so I was a little more experienced both with what came after, but also the original fundamentals. I don't know if that was what helped but I certainly didn't fizzle out like last time. I reckon I fizzled out during the spirit hunts segment in the middle of the game, but this time I got by them in a breeze, I think I only failed one of them and that was just the one time, otherwise they went by without a problem.

All in all, I liked Skyward Sword HD, I don't know if I'd class it as a new favourite, as I'll admit I think I took better to ToTK (I went out of my way to get all 120 shrines and I liked the gadget building mechanics), but it's definitely a solid game on the whole. Issues I did have were the translation of the old motion controls to the right stick. On the whole it was reasonable, but I did fumble a fair amount and it could be a little overwhelming at times having to precisely flick the stick to match the expected angles of attack. Not game-ruining by any stretch, but a bit of disagreeing with the controls every now and then.

I think the biggest issue I had with the game is flying in the Sky. It was interesting at first, but it got quite dull. I didn't enjoy having to go through it every time I had to go between areas, it made me yearn for some fast-travel because it felt tedious to go through every time I had to backtrack or go to the thunderstorm area. I don't inherently mind backtracking, hell I'm a Metroid fan that's half the experience there. But backtracking isn't fun if there's no engaging level design or area to backtrack through, and that I think is my biggest issue with the sky...it's not fun. I think that's also the reason why I started feeling a bit fatigued when you get to the Song hunt, as this would be the third time you cycle through the areas, and the back and forth was getting tiring. I pushed through and in fairness I did like the twists that came with the song hunt, so I don't have any issue there, it's just the in-between that I think was a slog.

But all in all yeah, good game.

I’d say the Sky in Skyward Sword is nowhere as amazing a the great say, like, it works as a hub but it’s just a bunch of islands and doesn’t really have much personality or points of interest. Still a great game, despite being rather linear

Oh sorry, didn't realise he was responding to me. Let's see.....

I had the Kokiri Emerald and the Goron Ruby. My reason for going there was to get the Zoras' Sapphire.
.................
oh wait, worst dungeon? Ok I don't know the name of this dungeon and I can guess it's not called the Water Temple.

Actually my memory might be a bit spotty. It was either Snowfall/Great Bay. All I know for certain is that I never reached the eastern canyon.

I believe at the time I stopped here it was because I ran out of time and had to return the game to the store (it was a rental but I had fun just somehoe never got back to it)
